Getty ImagesWith the fifth pick in the NFL draft, the Arizona Cardinals selected LSU cornerback Patrick Peterson, bolstering their defense with a player who’s ready to contribute right now.
There was talk that the Cardinals might draft a quarterback, but the decision to go with defense in the first round indicates that Arizona expects to acquire a veteran quarterback, perhaps Marc Bulger.
Peterson is a great talent, and pairing him with Dominique Rodgers-Cromartie gives the Cardinals an outstanding pair of cornerbacks.
The only question is whether the Cardinals may some day regret passing on a quarterback.

Please tell the networks to stop talking about Blaine Gabbert. It’s getting really annoying.

Blaine, I’m thinking of a wonderful Tom Petty song.
