Mort: Patriots trying to trade up for Cameron Jordan

Plenty of trades are expected on the draft’s first day, and no team has more ammunition than the New England Patriots.

According to ESPN’s Chris Mortensen, the Patriots are trying to put it to use.

Mort reports that the Patriots are involved in trade talks with the Cowboys. Bill Belichick’s target is California defensive end Cameron Jordan.

The Patriots are presumably dangling at least their No. 17 overall pick. Dallas is at No. 9 overall.

One of New England’s second-round picks would probably get them to nine. The Cowboys have been heavily rumored as being one of the teams trying hard to move down the board.

Please God, let the Bills trade back with Dallas & then deal it to the Pats. That would give them at least 3 – 2nd round picks, a 4th rounder from Dallas & the 17th pick in the draft.

    Buffalo needs defensive help, bigtime.

    The chart says #17, #60, & #92.

If this was true I would assume this means the Cowboys are going offensive line…

The Pats seldom wiff on Draft day, so I’m sure Jordans stock just went up. I’m also sure The Hoody is thrilled this got out, if it’s true.

Or is this Belichick tricking someone else into drafting him?

Whatever BB decides to do I’m fine with….especially if it helps our pass rush!!!

IF Dallas can still get a good tackle at 17, this is a good move for them. They have a lot of holes to fill, and an extra pick in the second round would do them well.

    That’s more like it!!!!
9 is ok,I thought 6 was too high. Remember BB traded down from 7 in 08 just to 10 w/ NO (thanks Sean, that was a solid :)) b/c he knew Mayo would still be there and I am sure the cost of 7 vs 10 made a difference.
Another dumb thing I think makes this a possibility is that his former GM Lombardi has them taking Pouncey @ 17 which is silly. If he does know anything he is not going to say they will take Jordan.

Sure sounds like BB is trying to play with people’s minds.

he’ll be there at 17 why trade up?

That photo of Mort just made my eyes go on strike.

Great move if your a patriots fan. Better move if your a fan whose team is not eyeing Cameron Jordan.

I happen to dispise Mortenson as well so I don’t know if I believe it….I’m guessing BB is leaking this to F#@% with Mort & other teams….

    Pats get to 12

Vikings get the 3rd round pick back and maybe a 4th or 5th and slide down to 17

    Win-win.

I heard a rumor the Pats were trying to trade down in the 2014 draft too.

It’s all just a smokescreen BS job with these rumors.

    Houston gives #11,73,104 = 1561
    N.E. gives #17, 33, & 156 = 1560

And last year the Pats wanted to trade up for C.J. Spiller….

And the year before that they were going to trade up into the top 10 for Michael Crabtree…

And the year before that they were going to trade up for Vernon Gholston….

Belichick is just doing what he always does: F with people’s heads to keep them from guessing what the Patriots really want to do.

  18. all4patriots says: Apr 28, 2011 5:26 PM

Right… the Patriots always let everyone kow who they will pick… /sarcasm

truth: this means there’s a 0% chance that Cameron Jordan will be a Patriot

The cow babies will trade out of #9 and end up taking an unknown from some Division III school that nobody never heard of.

Like George “The Animal” Steele, BB is totally unpredicatable. Probably wants everyone to believe that’s who he’s targeting, because that pick’s definitely been rumored for NE, and does make plenty of sense.
“The Chart” only comes into play if GM’s choose to acknowledge it. IMO, New England giving up # 17, 60 and 92 to move up just 5 spots in round one doesn’t add up. Too much. You can certainly get players in the 2nd and 3rd rounds and those are, at worst, quality depth selections.

You’re right. Stacey Dales who is in NE right now said there is absolutely no way the tradeup to Cle or Dall is happening. She also said she was told by a Pats source that BB has been “happy” all week. She said it’s because she was told they have all their most important players locked up for the near future. I say it’s because they sent her to NE instead of say…Jamie Dukes and we all know BB is fond of cute, well dressed blondes. He was grinning at her bigtime yesterday…like I never see him do.:D
