Roger Goodell hears the boos

AP

The tone has been set for what could be a very uncomfortable evening for NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell.

30 minutes before the draft started here at Radio City Music Hall, Goodell came on the stage to introduce the incoming rookies in attendance.  Goodell was greeted with thunderous boos, to which he smiled and repeatedly said, “I hear you.’

And then the booing kept going. And going.  A chant of “We Want Football” broke out and Goodell continued to wait, continuing to say “I hear you” and “I do too” in response to the chant.

After introducing the players, Goodell asked for a moment of silence for the victims of the tornadoes that devastated Alabama on Wednesday.  Even then, it was hard for Goodell to control the room.

The question now becomes whether the crowd just lets Goodell hear it early or whether they will keep it up.  We suspect Goodell is in for a long night.

  1. The new Gary Bettman is in the house. He will be relentlessly booed at every draft and every Super Bowl trophy presentation the rest of his career. And he deserves every one of the those boos. And he deserved them before the lockout even began with the horrible way he’s managed the league. You made your bed Roger, now it’s time to lay in it.

  2. Am I the only one that thought it was classless for him to randomly decide to honor tornado victims at a point when he was getting the holy heck booed out of himself?

  3. In reponse to the boos and chant the GoodOld moron replied “let’s get to SERIOUS things” which denotes he doesn’t take the fans seriously…

  4. These morons don’t even know why they’re booing.

Talk about the lowest common denominator.

This crowd is going to boo anyone perceived as an authority figure.

Exactly like my high school football pep rallies when the Dean of Students walked in. These boos are the immature noises of retards, nothing more.

At least boo the right side in this dispute, you idiots.

Randomly? Is that why he had Marcel D., Saban, Newton, and the rest of the state of Alabama football contingent on stage with him?

It was planned before hand. The only “random” classless thing here is your stupid comment.

  6. I actually thought he handled it well, the boos seem to be he first thing they properly prepare for.

And I also liked the meeting between Goodell and Von Miller. David Stern would not have been as diplomatic.

    Nice work.

  7. To all you short-sighted morons who just want football, regardless the cost. I am a bigger football fan than every one of you, but I am smart enough to not want the NFLPA* to turn the NFL into the MLB.

  8. Come on guys stop hating Roger Goodell. He’s not a bad commish.. He gets on the players who tarnish our shield.. We want that. We don’t want rouge players acting stupidly. He wants safety. Just like being a parent, you can’t be a friend, you gotta lead by example, sometimes tough love is what works. I genuinely believe he loves the NFL and wants it to be truly successful, we don’t realize how good we have it with him at the lead. He didn’t lockout players. Owners did. He’s the front man, so he gets all the flak. He doesnt want the draft to go, De Smith does. I honestly believe he wants the NFL to grow for both the players and owners. The players are taking too much money and the NFL can’t grow this way.. Is he perfect? No. Absolutely not. But I think he’s doing an amazing job. If you want to boo someone, or also, boo De Smith as well.

  9. Wouldn’t be the first time Goodell claimed to hear the fans but failed to demonstrate comprehension.

  10. “which denotes he doesn’t take the fans seriously…

And you take these guys seriously? Seriously? Grown men, most of them fat, dressed up in football jerseys with somebody else’s name on the back, acting like a bunch of low rent slobs at a Jets game?

It’s one thing for kids under the age of 17 to wear somebody else’s football jersey, but grown men?

Yea, I take em real seriously too.

    Good grief.

  11. I’m quite sure all the thumbs down to my last comment are the bitter, angry Fox News viewers of PFT. Awww……..so sorry your corporate fat cat heroes got seven shades of shat kicked out of them every step of the way in the courts.

  12. He should of been vuvuzelaed out of the building because even though I was annoyed with those things at the World Cup those things are great for showing displeasure with someone as awful as goodell.

  13. Not much of a God-del fan here but the fans have already forgot to give the NFL players the same treatment of boobirds melody.

  14. @mick730

That’s exactly what the NFL think about the fans: dumb cash cows…
Do yourself a favor and get a real job that doesn’t involve being a paid NFL parrot.

  15. Looks like I struck a chord with Tednancy. I’ll let you get back to watching Hannity now. Lord knows you good ol’ boys need your daily dose of affirmation, not information.
