At a time when the NFL has been plunged into a storming sea of chaos, the league is still focused on eventually expanding the regular season from 16 to 18 games.

We’d prefer that the league instead worry for now about keeping the ship from sinking.

NFL spokesman Brian McCarthy has proclaimed on Twitter that, of 60 fans invited to a forum with Commissioner Roger Goodell prior to the third day of the 2011 draft, 56 of them want 18 regular-season games and only two preseason games.

That extrapolates to 93 percent of fans wanting two more games that count and two fewer games that don’t.

Though we don’t dispute the outcome of that non-scientific poll (though we’re very suspicious about it), the results compel us to conduct another non-scientific poll of our own. And we’ll frame the question precisely the same way, with no other options and no “no opinion” category.

We hope that a lot more than 60 of you will express yourselves.
