With Broncos not taking a quarterback, Tebow is their guy

Tim Tebow AP

On multiple occasions before the 2011 draft, Broncos executive V.P. of football operations John Elway suggested that the team possibly would select a quarterback with the second overall selection.

We ultimately deemed it to be a ploy to get the most out of last year’s first-round pick, quarterback Tim Tebow.  If so, it worked.

I believe in them, and they believe in me,” Tebow told Ed Werder of ESPN.

Elway essentially agreed with that assessment.  “I think where we are as an organization, we are going with Tim,” Elway said.

And so Tebow looks to be the guy who’ll get the nod moving forward, notwithstanding the presence of Kyle Orton.

Picking another quarterback would prove Elaway was as dumb as he looks. Which would not surprise me.

i’m gonna enjoy watching the broncos and this guy get pounded this year

If Tebow sucks as much as everyone says then they’ll just get Luck.

  5. txchief says: Apr 30, 2011 5:54 PM

Tebow is a great QB. I think alot of teams will regret passing on him when all the dust settles.

  6. snaponrules says: Apr 30, 2011 5:57 PM

By making tebust their starter only insures a shot at luck next year.
Only the broncos would waste a first round pick on teblows.

The NFL is an entertainment package. And as such the “actors” are a critical piece of selling that entertainment.

Tebow will be a draw, win or lose. And it could be the Broncs couldn’t get any of the guys they thought could actually make a difference.

The Patriots have Tom Brady, the MVP, won 14 games, clinched home field throughout, couldn’t win a home playoff game against a team they pounded a few weeks prior 45-3 and looked nothing short of lame in the loss. Who the hell actually knows how this will all shake out?

Well we did get him a new protector in the draft. I hope we get too god value from Orton. We still need to put some beef in the middle of D.line.

Will totally be fun watching Tebow, and Miller runnin around and making plays on the field!!!

  9. thephantomstranger says: Apr 30, 2011 6:03 PM

Tebow is great. Enjoy watching him beat your teams, haters.

For those of you who don’t know what “notwithstanding” means, in this particular context it means the Broncos are not standing with Kyle Orton.

All he does is win games. Glad he is in the AFC.

Except for last year when he went 1-2 as an NFL starter.

Another losing season awaits the Broncos. They odiously tried to fix their defense with the draft,so they really don’t care about offense. Tebow is NOT the answer. dream on and keep praying.

  15. airraid77 says: Apr 30, 2011 6:53 PM

did you really believe they were going to pick a qb at 2? along with your leanings which is so far gone, the possibility of return is not possible, your football acumen is even worse.

  16. universalcynic says: Apr 30, 2011 7:11 PM

This is not a shocker in the least. It might be for the fine writers of PFT with their talk of smokescreens, and Elway needing to make a splash, etc.

Bottom line it this was and still is a weak QB class and the clean up for the Broncos must start on defense. That’s not been a secret.

I’ll print this out and file it under “Duh.”

if only these clowns who hate tebow so much would put thier hate where it belongs and at those players who beat their women, get dui’s and get busted multiple times for drugs, but mo those guys all deserve second and third chances while tebow does not get one.all because he believes in living a clean lifestyle? because he not only talks it but walks it? you guys are pathetic jealous haters. I am not a broncos fan or a very religious person for that matter but to have that much hate for someone who has done nothing to deserve it is just sad.I am sure you will all declare him a bust if he doesn’t go undefeated and win the superbowl but even that would not be enough. just let the guy play before you pass judgement on him and that means more than the 3 games he has played. you would think with all this negative talk he was the first player taken not the 25th or whatever it was. in other words he was almost a second rounder so lay off already.

By passing judgement, does that apply to the ones who overly love Tebow, simply because he was a winner in college? Everyone is evaluated. Anyone, right now, who really thinks Tebow gives the Broncos a better chance to win than Kyle Orton is obviously wearing Tebow covered glasses.

Where they are as an organization is dead last in defense. They might as well go with Timothy, but Elway probably shouldn’t admit it this early. He is more or less saying, “We aren’t close on offense, and we’re stuck with this guy, so we might as well play him.” Tebow can call it belief if he wants, but it’s more circumstance than anything else.

At least until next draft when the horse-face -jackass realizes Timmy-Rah-Rah is a bust. Actually I think he believes it now but a Luck or a Matt Barkley wasnt there for Denver to draft….

  23. dcbronco says: Apr 30, 2011 9:56 PM

The Broncos screwed up by not taking Kaepernick. That will be Elway’s first miss.

  24. hanktheking says: Apr 30, 2011 10:06 PM

If he busts it will be Josh Madumbasses fault for drafting him. If he becomes great it will be John Elways doing.

That’s what we call a win win for the Broncos, folks. Leave it to a 2 time superbowl champ to make a smart call like that.

Yeah, Orton was such a winner last year the benched him after 13 weeks, and he’d lost the teams confidence.
The team rallied around Tebow and that will continue. He’s by far their best chance to win.
Especially against the far weaker Raiders.

If Tebow was a wife beating phony drunk most on this list would love him.

I don’t get how Orton is just an after thought. He was playing great for 10 weeks. Obviously he wasn’t getting much coaching from Joshie. he rocked for my fantasy team. you could do alot worse that Orton

  32. bringbacktheflex says: May 1, 2011 12:02 PM

You do realize that Orton was on his way to a career season before an injury and a coaching change shut him down, right? He made a Pro Bowl WR out of a journeyman. The defense was abysmal. It’s a team sport, after all.

Oh, and just in case nobody knew or forgot, up until last year, there were 2 key things about Kyle Orton:

    1. He never had a losing season as a starting QB.
    2. He had more wins and a better winning pct than Jay Cutler.

With an improved offense and a good coach in John Fox, a Kyle Orton lead team this year will improve by leaps and bounds. Tim Tebow can’t hold up for a 16 game season just yet. It’s easy to come in the last 3 weeks against tired teams and teams who really had nothing to play for.

    Check your facts, son.

    _____________

Yeah, those Raiders, buddy. You know , the ones who swept the division and STILL didn’t even make the playoffs. They’re an erratic up and down team that plays with no consistency.
    Remember these losses?
    Tennessee Titans
    Arizona Cardinals *
    Houston Texans* (Home loss)
    San Francisco 49er’s*
    Pittsburgh Steelers
    Miami Dolphins* (Home loss)
    Jacksonville Jaguars*
    Indianapolis Colts (Home loss)
Of those 8 losses a good team should of won at least 4 of them *.
Now, they may well be on the upswing but probably not. I look for a 6-10 season in 2011 which will be well behind the Tebow led Broncos.

and now you bring up the Raiders opponents?
