KTUL-8 in Oklahoma is reporting that former 49ers and Giants cornerback R.W. McQuarters was shot Friday night after leaving a friend’s house in north Tulsa.

McQuarters was reportedly shot in the back by a man described as wearing a ski mask. He was able to drive himself to the hospital, and is now in recovery mode.

The No. 28 overall pick in the 1998 draft, McQuarters spent 11 years in the NFL as a cornerback and return specialist. He last played with the Giants in 2008.

McQuarters finished his career with 14 interceptions, returning three for touchdowns.

  1. “He was able to drive himself to the hospital,”

    what?

Get well soon rw, ill never forget your game sealing int in dallas in the 2007 div playoff

  2. Jesus, guys. Enough with the shootings and stabbings. Sending a hell of a message to the rest of the world with this chaos.

  3. “A man described as wearing a ski mask”

That’s a helluva good description. Ferguson.

  4. I remember he got that Interception that iced the game against the Cowboys back in the 07 playoffs. Pretty badass driving yourself to the hospital after being shot.

  5. Lesson to be learned: when leaving friend’s house, walk briskly or run, preferably in a serpentine pattern.

  6. “reportedly shot in the back by a man described as wearing a ski mask.”

In other words, someone he knows personally who was afraid he’d recognize him. Time to hang out with a better crowd.

What the hell does “recovery mode” mean? And I love how Silva threw in his stats just for good measure. Classy!

  8. …and his INT against Romo in the 2007 playoffs to seal the game was the biggest of them all.

Best of luck to McQuarters, hope he gets better soon.

  9. His Int was on 4th down. Intercepting it made no difference at all. He did prevent the TD though and was all over the dude. He’s part of the greatest victory in NYG history SB XLII! Hope he has a pain-free recovery. Sleep well tonight RW.

  10. thx for the love for the team he played the longest for the CHICAGO BEARS!

  11. “Leaving a friend’s house” it was a woman”shot in the back” it was a jealous dude, and he was sayin’ “Gimme three steps..”

  12. That guy in the ski mask has been on a killing spree for about 50 years now. Not to mention all the bank robberies. Next time you see a guy in a ski mask walking his dog in the park or buying groceries call 911.

  13. You can’t even buy a ski mask anymore thanks to PC nation deciding what’s good for us all so this dude could be a longtime criminal especially since I doubt it snows much in that area.

Best wishes to McQuarters, hope he makes a full recovery.

  14. Anyone else think we should stop selling ski masks? Seriously, who buys those thing besides bad guys?

“I’m telling you, son, it ain’t no fun, staring straight down a forty-four.”

  17. It’s amazing to me how many millionaires and multi-millionaires are getting stabbed and shot. My free advice to the rookie class of 2011; screw keeping it real. As soon as you hit your payday, take care of your FAMILY only, keep in touch with your true friends (not your posse), and move on from any past that might lead to you being shot or stabbed in the future.

  18. Loved McQuarters as a Giant… he almost caused me a heart attack every time he returned punts but his veteran leadership really helped the secondary during the Super Bowl run and that game sealing pick on Tony Romo in the divisionals…. ahhh that was beautiful! Also loved the Spongebob bandaid he would wear on his cheek for some games hahaha
