It was a hell of a lot to give up in Atlanta’s case, but I’ve yet to hear someone mention that Cleveland could have REALLY used one of these two WRs. The Browns showed signs of serious improvement in 2010, defensively, on the o-line, etc. They’ve got deep threats, and a nice short game. Jones or Green would have been the missing big man in that offensive arsenal.

Nothing is going on with White. If you watch the Falcons, it’s easy to stop their offense. Double team White and put 8 in the box to stop Turner. Now that is not possible. Matt Ryan laughs at the naysayers of this move when he wins an MVP and Lombardi trophy.

Canetic, believe it or not Roddy White will be 30 by mid season. This is not just another weapon to pair up with White but could be he eventual replacement.

I also think there is a feeling that while Matt Ryan is/will be a very good QB that he will never be in the likes or the elite so adding talent around him should only make things easier.

i have to disagree, mainly because i think you could pull any proven and fairly young receiver without the last name johnson for that price….there are definitely a few receivers i think they could get(and for less) and help their team just as much if not more, since you never know what a rookie will give you.

The Falcons were not only a WR away from a championship. Does anyone remember how Green Bay kept driving down the field on them in the playoffs? Some secondary help would have been nice in a draft known to be deep at cornerback.

This year’s first-round pick was a wash, so they really gave up two fourth-round picks and next year’s first-round pick. Too much? Depends on the production they get out of Julio … plus their first-round spot, needs, and the available players next year. Don’t think it would have been worthwhile to give up more to move to #2. Julio is a great get at that position. Tough guy, hard worker, team player, blocking receiver, and ready to work in a pro-style offense. Considering where they’re starting, the Falcons can only go forward.

And it was a nice move for the Browns, assuming–as I do–that we’ll have a draft next year.

Wide receivers have basically been proven to have less effect on a team than most other positions. This trade set Atlanta back a few years, even if JJ is really, really good.
