Mendenhall deletes his “truther” tweet

Super Bowl XLV Getty Images

We’ve been keeping a close eye on the Twitter page of Steelers running back Rashard Mendenhall for any further messages addressing his eyebrow-raising comments from Monday regarding Osama bin Laden and 9/11.  Though no new messages have appeared, Mendenhall quietly has censored one of his tweets.

Gone into the Internet abyss is the following message, which expresses skepticism regarding the notion that hijacked planes took down the World Trade Center:  “We’ll never know what really happened.  I just have a hard time believing a plane could take a skyscraper down demolition style.”

As far as we can tell, Mendenhall has dumped no other messages (including the one in which Mendenhall says “[w]e’ve only heard one side“) and he has not posted any new ones yet.

We’ve got a feeling that football fans — particularly Steelers fans — will continue to seethe at least until Mendenhall provides a full and complete apology.

Mendenhall also believes that “this Internet fad will die shortly” and “nobody reads twitter”.

i hope he gets booed every time he touches the ball on 9/11 when they play at baltimore.

oh and ray crushes his shoulder/body again.

In other words Steeler fans will make like they’re seething until the season starts and then its all sunshine and flowers and forgiveness.

  5. dericivy says: May 3, 2011 4:13 PM

Who cares? If you are offended then it’s on you. Free speech means free speech.
Why anyone would let those comments actually effect their lives is beyond understanding to me.

    Ratard Mendenhall

    There fixed it!

  7. kernelreefer says: May 3, 2011 4:14 PM

    Well, that solves that problem!

    Now, where were we again?

  8. sterilizecromartie says: May 3, 2011 4:14 PM

I love that this moron has finally realized the can of worms he opened. Start backpeddling boy! Every one of those tweets will be deleted within the next 24 hours.

He goes from humping Ben, to being a slave, to this nonsense. He has had a busy past few months.

  9. ravensfan4life52 says: May 3, 2011 4:14 PM

he doesn’t have to apologize and he shouldn’t apologize. what has this country come to when people are expected to apologize for saying what they think?

  10. marvsleezy says: May 3, 2011 4:17 PM

Im surprised no terrorists have ever just tried to come in through Mexico with the migrant workers. It would be so easy, then they could be suicide bombers.

Have they not thought of that? The govt always says there are sleeper cells in this country – If thats true how come they never do anything?

The govt lied about Pat Tilman. Tilman was also becoming suspicious of the war on terror shortly before he died.

  11. steelertom says: May 3, 2011 4:17 PM

This is what happens when football players have nothing to do. I hope the rooneys are as sympathetic to him as they are to wife beaters and alledged rapists. Just another reason this thing needs to end. Heck Antonio Cromartie probably inpregnated twice the women as usual this offseason.

must be brain damage due to concussions?

  13. chadmurdigan says: May 3, 2011 4:18 PM

IMO, he has nothing to apologize for.

Geez, this country used to be a place where one could have an opinion different from the herd’s without getting raked over the coals on slow news days.

It makes me sick the way whiners and the media are always calling for apologies. Just once, when the PC police start snapping their fangs I’d like to see someone say, “Kiss my patootie, bozos. I don’t apologize for what I think.”

  14. farmmbig says: May 3, 2011 4:19 PM

Yeah, this guy definitely owes me an apology for expressing his opinion/thoughts on a matter.

  18. rangenius says: May 3, 2011 4:21 PM

Government oppression is one thing but when they have their citizen’s do the job for em that’s disgusting. You losers should read a book for a change instead of living and breathing football 24/7.

  20. profootballwalk says: May 3, 2011 4:22 PM

As soon as he runs for a touchdown, Pittsburgh fans will love him again. Steeler fans would cheer for John Wayne Gacy if he could run a 4.45 40.

  21. RexCanCoach says: May 3, 2011 4:24 PM

You should be required to apply for a license before you can tweet, something based on an IQ test. I bet most 8 yr. olds would be allowed no chance this idiot RB gets approved.

  22. halftermguv says: May 3, 2011 4:26 PM

    He’s an idiot, move on.

As our country and the press fixate themselves on meaningless tweets from imbeciles; congress, the court system, and Wall street act without regard or concern to the average American. We are getting what we deserve.

  23. duanethomas says: May 3, 2011 4:26 PM

He’s being defiant and thinks what he said is right, thats why he has only taken one tweet down and not the whole account. The backlash is just starting for this idiot and he will see how wrong he is.

  24. nfl25 says: May 3, 2011 4:27 PM

  25. raiderinpa says: May 3, 2011 4:27 PM

Rashard, put your googly, Marty Feldman-esque eyes back in your head, shut your mouth and just play football!! If you have ANY sympathy for such a poor excuse for a human being, you need to get the F out of this country!!

  26. tdk24 says: May 3, 2011 4:28 PM

It was pretty dumb for him to tweet that, but since he did, i’m now kind of mad that he erased it. It is a free country and he’s allowed to think and say anything he wants without having to apologize to anyone. I guess it’s really only freedom of speech until enough people whine about it that you have to say you’re sorry for saying it or deleting it from the internet or you could lose your job/career. I would like him to leave it up and say F you to the people that don’t like it. If you don’t like it, don’t read it.

  27. RussianBreadMaker says: May 3, 2011 4:28 PM

  35. yanketteny says: May 3, 2011 4:31 PM

Once a person identifies themselves as a “Truther” or “Birther” than you no longer have to pay any attention to what they say no matter how good an athlete they may be.

  39. krow101 says: May 3, 2011 4:32 PM

  41. bornagainfitness says: May 3, 2011 4:34 PM

Who cares?! It’s his right to express his own personal opinion. I am 100% confident that he isn’t the only person who feels this way.

I think it’s a disgrace that this website is intentionally trying to fan the flames on this topic. Last I checked this is the United States of America, where we have the right to freedom of speech.

  42. bobwhitequail says: May 3, 2011 4:34 PM

  44. snoop24 says: May 3, 2011 4:36 PM

  45. rangenius says: May 3, 2011 4:37 PM

Instead of demanding his job or an apology.

Wouldn’t it be easier to just stop reading his tweets?

  47. bigjd says: May 3, 2011 4:38 PM

  48. calmcoyote says: May 3, 2011 4:41 PM

Thank you for the comments by those that understand that we don’t have free speech in this country.
Anyone that thinks this was a terrorist attack just hasn’t looked at the facts. Anyone that wasn’t overwhelmed by the media would have said that the buildings (all 3 of them) couldn’t have been DEMOLISHED by a plane; the buildings were built to resist a plane!
The buildings were demolished by directed energy. Check out Judy Wood on Google. She did a great job uncovering the real cause.

  51. bobhk says: May 3, 2011 4:42 PM

“Gone into the Internet abyss is the following message…”

Except it won’t be gone for a while, as most search engines index tweets. Till it’s gone from the index it won’t truly be gone.

Shouldn’t there be a basic intelligence test before someone gets a twitter account. Talk about a brainless idiot.

  52. buc13jcs says: May 3, 2011 4:43 PM

  53. hineswardcriesafterfumbling says: May 3, 2011 4:45 PM

If you think bin Laden was killed on May 1, I have a bridge to sell you.

  54. pixelito says: May 3, 2011 4:46 PM

Delete down your tweet, say you’re sorry, and pound your chest in a crazed blood lust whilst dancing on Bin Laden’s grave…

Now you’re a good Christian and American!

    :)

  55. gretchensc says: May 3, 2011 4:47 PM

Ignorant or not, what Mendenhall is saying is not harming anyone. In my own personal opinion, I feel as if he is just expressing his ideals. I’m also sure there are probably a lot of other American’s that feel his same way in regards to his Osama comment. (“What kind of person celebrates death? It’s amazing how people can HATE a man they have never even heard speak. We’ve only heard one side…”). Why get so upset over someones personal views on a twitter account? If he wasn’t famous, you probably wouldn’t even know that he tweeted those things. Also, please remember that he is a professional football player–not a professional politician.

I also believe that it would be awful silly for him to have to make an apology to Steeler fans. That would go against his right to free speech, especially his is words are harmless. Also, I think that hate is a strong word and that maybe we can all learn a little something from his hate comment.

Not to be repetitive with the others whom are quoting MLK Jr., but: “Darkness cannot drive out darkness; only light can do that. Hate cannot drive out hate; only love can do that.”

  56. bobwhitequail says: May 3, 2011 4:48 PM

calmcoyote, you are not very smart.

  57. shieldsisland37 says: May 3, 2011 4:51 PM

Honestly, he is still a young kid with his whole life ahead of him. If he calls a press conference and apologizes for his actions, I think that most people would forgive him. It is never to late to do the right thing. However, he wont, and this will haunt him the rest of his life. If he had a real advisor he would advise the young man to man up and ask for forgiveness. Can you imagine being a 50 year old man and having people hate you and whisper behind your back about a comment you made when you were 26? If he just mans up and apologizes this will all go away.

  58. crumpledstiltskin says: May 3, 2011 4:52 PM

    Wow.

A bit of overkill reporting on someone voicing their opinion?

I don’t agree with it, but what does it matter to you and me what he says?

He is a 22 year old kid getting paid to play football, not editorialize world affairs.

  59. pleasantsurpriselefty says: May 3, 2011 4:53 PM

Where the hell do they get these guys, from another planet? Somebody please go to the video tape with this dope and show him how a plane can take down a building demolition style! Another couple of tweets and before you know it he’ll work slaves into it somehow. Wonder what his Wonderlic score was.

  60. steelersmashmouth says: May 3, 2011 4:53 PM

I don’t want a retraction or an apology. Seriously. Time to dump him for a 5th round pick. He talks too much and he fumbles too much, not a good combination if you want to be a steeler. Redman runs tougher anyway and Dwyer will be just fine as a backup. We still have Mewelde and the new kid. Dump this Douche bag.

  61. audient says: May 3, 2011 4:55 PM

  62. schmitty2 says: May 3, 2011 4:55 PM

  64. iojiojijiohbuiy says: May 3, 2011 4:56 PM

PFT, PLEASE STOP REPORTING ON THIS, WHO CARES. HE IS A FOOTBALL PLAYER TALKING ABOUT POLITICS.

Also, what he said isn’t that offensive. People need to grow up. I’m not saying the U.S. government conspired to do anything, but if you believe everything the government says, you are the idiot. Just in the last two days, this is so clear. The first news about Osama was he “went down shooting and used a women to shield himself”. Nope. Of course none of that is true, the White House retracted all of that today, but the important thing is that’s what everyone heard first and will continue to believe.

The U.S. IS the best country on earth, but ALL governments are untrustworthy. Even you flag waving republicans should admit to that. Mendenhall just tweeted a little thing, who cares?

  65. nflconspiracytheoristdeluxe says: May 3, 2011 4:56 PM

Freedom of speech is a two-way street. Rashard Mendenhall has every right to tweet his opinion from the highest tree (twee?). OTOH, Ray Lewis has every right to knock him into the middle of the next week come opening day (whenever that might happen).

  66. 1bottomline says: May 3, 2011 4:56 PM

Seethe? About what, his own opinion?? People that are offended ought to apologize for being such hypocrites, yet resting their beliefs on other’s opinions and sacrifice.

There are MANY people that aren’t satisfied with the results of the “investigation” that occurred after the Trade Centers collapsed. I see no reason he needs to apologize for being of the opinion that nobody knows what happened that day because there is plenty of truth to that statement.

As for the other statements, I do agree that there’s something wrong with celebrating the death of a person, however when it’s a person that has taken many lives himself that’s a different story.

  69. dirtybirds24 says: May 3, 2011 4:59 PM

Now, we have conspiracy theorists, doubting Bin Laden is dead. Just because something COULD be true does not mean it IS true. Some people will believe just about anything. HAHA!

There is a such thing as free speech but not only was this very insensitive it shows the kind of inteligence that he has. good thing this guy is athletic because i highly doubt he could be succesful at anything else.

  72. jennstergersburnedretinas says: May 3, 2011 5:10 PM

I can’t beleive some of the stuff that I’m reading here. I think that the breakdown goes like this:

15% conspiracy theorists, of which 1% have formed their own opinon and aren’t parrots for confirmed crazies.

25% free speech advocates, of whom a suprising 5% actually realize that most people aren’t mad about the fact that he said it but the fact that he said it DIRECTLY after the man who claimed responsibility was killed.

5% non football followers who posted political b.s. on a football site, 5% of which can go back to posting in proper forums

5% realizing that an MLK quote was used and 2% of them realizing that MLK would be happy if he was alive and saw they end to bin Laden.

50% glad that that’s over but realize that this is a football forum and that twitter should be banned from use by athletes other than: Shaq and Ochocinco.

0% Steeler apologists. Thanks for not making this about blind adoration of your team.

Planes flown into regular buildings surely would bring them down…but into an internal structured steel building it is impossible. The floors hit by the explosion would be destroyed, but at least the steel structure from most of the other floors would be standing. There was no logical reason for those buildings to collapse as they did.

  76. steeelfann says: May 3, 2011 5:12 PM

Here we are on a nice sunny day in Mendenworld……ohhh, there is Rashard, and who is he talking to??

Rashard: So, Adolf, you wiped out 6 million Jews, people are kinda down about it, ya know, I mean, kinda sketchy…….give me your side buddy.

Hitler: Well, those Jewish folks are the reason we have 30 % unemployment in Germany and everywhere they are, it just stinks. So I am taking care of business. Really, it is for the overall good, it is actually a good thing man.

Rashard: Ya know, I hear you Dolf. Keeping it real, right?

Hitler: Besides Shard, a million here, a million there, women, children, ya know, the American and British government really are overstating things. In fact, I have cut back on the gas chamber usage. Seriously. We are trying to go “green”, wasting too much power.

Rashard: See, I knew it. The whole holocaust deal, that genocide crap everyone is spewing about, I knew it was far-fetched. By the way Adolf, love that stache. Hey, who is this coming, that guy with all the hair?

Adolf: Hey Joseph, c’mon over and meet Rashard.

Stalin: Hello from Mother Russia Rashard.

Rashard: Oh man, you the dude they saying killing like 12 million folks cause they won’t turn their property over to you and your other boys at the country club. Dude, I want to hear your side. They are bad-mouthin’ you all over the place, and I know ya got your reasons. A man has got to operate.

Stalin: Ahhhh Rashard, I can see you are a wise man. It is for the good of the State, nobody is bigger than the State, than Mother Russia. We had some people that were just working too hard, farms got too big, and the other lazy folks got too hungry. We thought the goverment could do a better job so we just told em we were taking all their stuff. So a few here and there go outa line, but it is all good.

Rashard: Ya know Joey, I figured that. I knew it made no sense at all that killed 12 million folks for nothing. See, you have a system, you are just working it.

Mao Zedong (wanders over): What say you guys?

Rashard, Adolf, and Joseph greet Mao warmly:
Yo Mao, what is happenin dude?

Mao: Nothing much, just cutting back. Had to make an example of about 70 million folks. Them poor dudes deserved it though. Besides, we have so many people, not really a big deal. Just instituting our new program.

Rashard: Did you really ice that many people, I really want to hear your side. I mean, I heard you killed em, but you had to have a good reason dog. Tell what was up with that cause that media is roasting you cuz.

Mao: See Rashard, that is the problem. Ya’ll let that media talk too much. First thing I took care off. They get to blabbing and stuff, people get all spun up, and then I gotta whack some more. See, ya gotta take care of the media, then you don’t have to wipe so many people out.

    Rashard: Dude, you are wise.

Tune in next week, same time, same channel to Mendyworld, where this time, Mendy does lunch with Manson and his followers. Charles explains to Mendy that it was just a wild party with some chicks and yea, it got out a hand a little, but it was all in good fun.

So what happened to free speech. Reading the comments on this page indicates just how little people think for themselves any longer.

I don’t agree with RM but I give him the ability and freedom to say what he thinks without having to apologize to strangers that he owes nothing to.

Come on folks, stop drinking the Kool-Aid and think for yourself .

Asking for an apology is lame. If you don’t like him, then don’t pay attention to him and root for the other players on the team. They are not your friends. They are contractual employess – get a life.

I’m confused?—- Am I (and obviously many others) free to speak on how we find Rashard Mendenhall’s comments ridiculously idiotic?

  81. eslaught says: May 3, 2011 5:22 PM

His free speech is his free speech. He is allowed to say whatever he wants. People saying I shouldn’t criticize him are wrong, because I am using my free speech against him.
Its kind of silly that someone would put such a thing since bin Laden did say he wanted Americans to die and he would do whatever it takes to make Americans die. Mendenhall is obviously educated, made a poor decision and should probably issue an apology. That more than likely won’t happen because he is stupid, but he is allowed to say what he wants. We become our own enemy when we start telling others they can’t say something. The Taliban did that to people in Afghanistan.
He is ignorant and a fool, but he is exercising his rights like we are all doing right now. He should shut his dumb yap, because I know some of my friends have died in Afghanistan helping others gain the freedoms that we waste by saying things like Rashard has just shared.

    Two things:

First, is anyone actually mad about this? Annoyed, amused, depressed, maybe. But is anyone just sitting at their computer reading these tweets and starts seething with anger? I think the reaction is being overemphasized.

I think to settle the birthers vs. truthers debate you have to look at intent.

The birthers are trying to show that the current president isn’t in the correct legal standing to hold that office. This issue has been around since before he was even president. The target is a single individual.

The truthers are trying to, in their minds, find the real cause of 9/11. They feel that there are facts that remain unknown and they want them cleared up.

To me the birthers are worse. They are targeting one individual. And everyone in the birthers (at least that I’ve seen) is with a political party that disagrees with the person they are targeting.

You could argue that the truthers are targeting Bush, and they are, but alone with several other people, including people on both political sides.

As much as I like this site, this Rashard Mendenhall story has gone far enough. What he said on Twitter isn’t something new, it’s debated on the internet on thousands of websites daily and has been for almost a decade. I know you’re desperate for site hits when the news is slow, but this is just getting sad…not to mention the people that are attacking Mendenhall and making such a fuss over his comments, pretty much just a bunch of over sensitive losers if you ask me. Anyone who puts more than 5 seconds of negative thought to Mendenhall’s comments is already putting more thought into it than Mendenhall did, so why bother. You’re not going to change his opinion, move on…

I mean really, who cares what some dopey football player thinks about anything? He carries a ball and runs for a living. He doesn’t represent anything. Stop getting personally offended so often by what these football players say and do. Nothing at all matters less.

Deb, that’s absurd. As foolish as Rashard’s comments were, he doesn’t owe anyone an apology. Anyone who demands he apologize needs to evaluate why they are making such a fuss over the issue. Since so many people are putting in their two cents about Pittsburgh Steelers buffoon Rashard Mendenhall and his uneducated comments, I will add mine to the mix. After having read his comments I understand now why he’s being called the black Charlie Sheen and the black Mel Gibson on the Internet.

Of course everyone is entitled to his or her opinions. But for an opinion to have value it must have some underlying intelligence associated with it. Anyone can say anything stupid, without qualifying it at all, where is the value in that?

He can’t understand how people can be so angry at a murderer. Thank your God Rashard that your family wasn’t taken from you. Save your opinions for things that happen directly to you and not what happens to others whom you do not know.

He then criticizes those who are angry and hate Osama by saying they have no business to judge him. But Rashard himself is judging others – us, which makes him a hypocrite.

He then believes we are interested in his relationship with his God. What he forgets is that his relationship with his God is between him and his God, not anyone else. Just as I have my own relationship with my God, it does not involve Rashard. Osama was never repentant, showed no remorse, asked no forgiveness and was never contrite. The only thing Osama was sorry about was not killing more Americans.

Rashard does not believe Osama was involved in the 9/11 attacks, but gives no details or reasons why he feels this way. We know somebody was and Osama himself took the credit. The 9/11 plan was carefully constructed. Planes were chosen that were completely full of fuel, completely full of passengers and the people were told the plane was being hijacked and nobody would be harmed. They had to say this so the passengers would not revolt. The planes we not even flown at cruising speed of 550 mph but rather at 600 mph! But Rashard never bothered to even suggest someone else. He believes nobody is responsible. I guess he thinks the planes flew themselves.

Everyone knows Rashard is not an engineer, but does he have to prove it so eloquently? Let me explain to him how jets can collapse buildings. Even single level wood frame homes have load-bearing walls. Compromising the integrity of a load-bearing wall will cause the home to collapse. The WTC was 110 stories, and although the metal had fireproofing, that is not the same as heatproofing. With jet fuel burning at 2,000 degrees Fahrenheight for hours, the metal softens and the structural integrity is compromised, the floors aboved the fire collapsed onto the floors below. The weight of the collapsing floors caused others to collapse one on top of the others like pancakes. This why the WTC did not topple sideways, it pancaked due to something else Rashard is ignorant of — gravity.

Rashard knows he will never be a hero, he does not have what it takes. So he cowardly tries to takes that status away from the real heroes. Just like the moronic comments Charlie Sheen and Mel Gibson have made in recent months, Rashards comments are just as ridiculous. Personally, I know twelve year olds who put more thought into their comments than Rashard does.

Even though Rashard disagrees with me, the one thing I am very, very happy and proud about is that the very last thing that went through Osama bin Laden’s mind was an American bullet! And now he gets to do it with 72 virgins. Lucky Osama!

You strike me as loud/ ignorant/opinionated (a piss poor combo) and you have offended true citizens far more than Rashard did. By the way, all of you real smart fellas that convinced yourselves that what happened that day makes sense, keep in mind that no plane hit WTC 7 and it fell symetrically into its own footprint at free fall speed (or dam close to it). Perhaps it collapsed itself out of sympathy?

    @calhounlambeau …

Rashard Mendenhall is entitled to his opinion and his conspiracy theories as a private citizen. When he speaks publicly, he’s a member of the Pittsburgh Steelers and a representative of the organization. So yes, he does owe an apology to his employers and their public.

After reading his entire Twitter feed on the subject, I felt Mendenhall was speaking more out of ignorance than he was embracing any conspiracy theories. After all, he was only a child when 9/11 occurred. And since he prides himself on learning, and I abhor ignorance, I’d like to see him try to educate himself on the subject. Of course, the concept of eradicating ignorance would be foreign to a such a judgmental fool.

As someone with a background in corporate communications, I also believe players should be banned from using Twitter because of its instantaneous format and potential for enabling communication faux pas that can reflect badly on the organization–as this has.

This is nothing new. Controlling the message is common corporate policy. I suggest you grow up and develop an understanding of life in the real world. Oh … but first you’d have to elevate your IQ and get a job. I won’t hold my breath.

Mendenhall has absolutely nothing to apologize for in his tweet.

    hey dirtdawg55,
Anyone that thinks there are still unanswered questions regarding 9/11 is an idiot? Do you realize, Dr. Dirtdawg, that you just insulted many family members of the victims and first responders? You strike me as loud/ ignorant/opinionated (a piss poor combo) and you have offended true citizens far more than Rashard did. By the way, all of you real smart fellas that convinced yourselves that what happened that day makes sense, keep in mind that no plane hit WTC 7 and it fell symetrically into its own footprint at free fall speed (or dam close to it). Perhaps it collapsed itself out of sympathy?

    **************************
Perhaps you need to take a step back and realize how many OTHER firefighters and victims families you just called liars.

As far as Building 7, this site goes into great detail about what happened there, complete with interviews with first responders and engineers, as well as pictures, video, and links to other sites that
    debunk the conspiracies.

Evidence is increasing that the tsunami in Japan was created by an underwater nuclear explosion. Suspicions are increasing that they did it on purpose to raise prices on automobiles and electronics, WHICH IS NOW HAPPENING!

yeah i’m not an idiot. it means you don’t think he should be able to have kids. but why does it matter how many kids he has? as long as he pays the child support why does it matter?

and like you say your name is a joke. Mendenhall’s previous tweets are jokes too.
    ———————-
I’m pretty sure Mendenhalls is dead serious about every one of his tweets, even the ones about women going down on guys. You can’t assume he was joking.

Remember, this is a guy who actually hinted that he thinks 9/11 was a conspiracy. When it comes to those people you can’t assume anything (except that they are bat-$h1+ crazy).

Just trying to help you out.

What I would really appreciate it is if some of you people stopped talking in behalf of “victims and their families”. I don’t believe my family, for one, asked any of you to speak for us. So don’t pretend to know how the the thousands of people related to the victims of this tragedy must feel just to give your rebuttals more validity.

Mendenhall’s opinion is nothing short of ignorant and dull, aimed at making himself look more intelligent than he could possibly ever be.You can choose to ignore this clown and his blatant idiocy but you rather act as the angry mob. Meanwhile the losers here at PFT are delighted at the amount of hits this little “controversy” brings to the site and we’re playing right into it.

What really surprises me are the hoards of people demanding he not only issue an apology, but that he be fired as well! You want him to apologize because you *chose* to be offended by his uneducated comments. Why does anything he have to say matter THIS much to you? He’s another imbecile who jumped on the truther bandwagon, and even if none of us likes what he has to say, he exercised his *freedom* to act like such an imbecile without the fear of censorship or punishment.

And for all of you saying such opinions have consequences, then you’re the ones who truly forgot about which freedoms our brave and honorable troops are fighting for.

Go take a nice little trip to Cuba or The People’s Republic of China and see what the type of oppression you promote can really do to a nation.

  151. pittman2052 says: May 4, 2011 11:42 AM

What does he need to apologize for? I was a marine, but I always questioned the way the buildings fell. I think he was right to say what was on his mind. To me, America is forgetting what the right to free speech means.

What a classless organization. The Steelers are all about rape and being anti-american. Not to mention full of a bunch of loser idiots. As a member of the Army, I can’t wait to watch the video of Mendenhall’s hip breaking over and over again, and his career going with it..

  153. pigeonpea says: May 4, 2011 2:50 PM

Nobody is disputing Mendenhall’s right to say what he wants, they are demanding he be accountable for what he says. There is a big difference between the two, and it truly is sad some of you just don’t get it.

On another note, I feel the need to reply to this gem:

    calmcoyote says:

Anyone that thinks this was a terrorist attack just hasn’t looked at the facts. Anyone that wasn’t overwhelmed by the media would have said that the buildings (all 3 of them) couldn’t have been DEMOLISHED by a plane; the buildings were built to resist a plane!
The buildings were demolished by directed energy. Check out Judy Wood on Google. She did a great job uncovering the real cause.

Right. I am supposed to believe that it wasn’t the combined result of the kenetic force of a 300,000 lbs plane impacting at 500 miles an hour and the resultant conflaguration that brought down the Twin Towers, but some kind of “directed energy” invented by some internet kook that did? Were David Icke’s shapeshifting space lizards the masterminds behind it as well?

First off… One of the reasons I am proud to be an american is that this country values an individuals right and freedom of speech. With that said regardless if you agree with what R Mend had to say he has all the right to voice his opinion. Anybody that doesn’t respect or atleast grant a person the freedom of having their own opinion should be considered ignorant and unpatriotic. Secondly Just because you question the official version of the events of 9/11 DOESNT mean you justify what happened or are on the Terrorist side. There are plenty of 9/11 Victim’s relatives who are a part of the truth movement. In fact if it wasn’t for the pleas of the families of 9/11 VICTIMS there wouldnt even be an official ivestigation of the tragedy. Does that mean they hate their family? Before you begin to have an opinion on anything in life you should do some kind of research. If 9/11 is such a touchy subject to you then atleast go and get informed about it and dont let ” ur an idiot” or “your a moron” be your only response to the subject. From what he writes this seems to be a very insightful and intelligent young man. I Especially AGREE with him when he mentions the celebrating. I was emberrassed to be american sunday. We are supposed to be the best Nation on Earth. Save the celebrating for when our troops come back safe from overseas. I may not have lost a loved one but I have family fighting overseas and i know that Bin Ladens death does not bring them home, nor does it make us any safer here. Its a known fact that Sheik Muhammad was the true 9/11 MASTERMIND. Did people go and celebrate when our troops blew him up?? Stop being dumb sheeps to the media. Do some reading or if you dont want to read stick to football talk and STFU!!

The evidence shows Roethlisberger didn’t rape anyone. But I guess you don’t believe in due process anymore than you believe in free speech. I don’t at all agree with Mendenhall’s comments. But the idea that my tax dollars are paying for you to carry a gun scares the crap out of me. You are a disgrace to the service and to those who serve with honor and dignity.

Isn’t it wonderful for your boy Ben that he can blame everything on those crazy, free speech, liberal members of the media when hr returns home to his little woman? Honey, we were in a small bathroom together with my bodyguards keeping it private, but the media is so evil and always making stuff up. “I did not have sexual relations with that woman”.
