Dez Bryant joins Cowboys workouts

Dez Bryant AP

After missing the first day of Dallas’ somewhat organized team activities on Tuesday, Dez Bryant was in the mix on Wednesday according to Calvin Watkins of ESPNDallas.com.

Tony Romo told Watkins that Bryant reached out to him prior to Tuesday to tell him he would miss the first day because of a family matter.  Romo also said that Bryant “looked good. “

We don’t think Bryant’s presence (or absence) is a huge story, but it was interesting to see the reaction in Dallas. Following his absence on Tuesday, the Dallas Morning News reported Bryant would not have been cleared to participate anyhow because of the fractured right fibula that ended his 2010 season.

So either that a bogus excuse was unnecessarily floated to the media to cover for Bryant or the kid is going against team orders by practicing again.  We’d bet on the former.

He wasn’t aware that there was a practice. Cell reception is horrible at the mall.

His apprenticeship in getting into the family business didn’t pan out…it’s never fun working at the same place as your mother.

  7. ronswansonsdinner says: May 4, 2011 5:14 PM

The Cowboys are tricking him into showing up for workouts and then they are going to take him out to dinner and he’s going to pay for the bill again.

“we don’t think Bryant’s presence (or absence) is a huge story…”
But you’ve managed to post two threads on the subject in two days.

Wait a second. This can’t be right.

Romo is working out with receivers instead of playing golf?

What happened to all those commenters who were saying how Romo should be doing workouts like Brees and Eli and that’s why he’ll never win a Super Bowl?

  15. broo53 says: May 4, 2011 6:21 PM

Your bet is bogus triple G since the “team” doctors can’t order him to do anything right now anyway.

Exactly, you’re a giant fan, Chatham – North Jersey, 10, Eli Manning. So why did you care enough to comment.

Dez had to drive his Mom to a work appointment.

Or could it be that the media, whomever their source is, was wrong. I mean come on Gregg. You got the story from espnDallas…did you not read this part?

“Bryant was not present Tuesday for the players’ first get-together, but Romo said the receiver had reached out to him prior to Tuesday’s workout to let him know he would be absent because of a family matter.”

But hey…it doesn’t matter. Romo is a horrible person because he dates hot women and plays golf in his spare time and takes homeless people to movies. Bryant is a trouble maker who sags his pants (even though he wasn’t the one who was). Jerry Jones makes all the decisions that turn out bad and none of the ones that turn out good. And the Cowboys will never win a Super Bowl ever again for the rest of enternity. Ever.

  19. jjared1101 says: May 4, 2011 7:18 PM

So Greg, is PFT going to do an article on every player that doesn’t show up for these player lead workouts?

  20. onthewagonsince90 says: May 4, 2011 8:37 PM

Soooo.. all this proves is that the media over hypes useless crap.. Yeah.. nothing new..

  21. thefiesty1 says: May 4, 2011 9:06 PM

Why? He doesn’t need to practice. Just ask Jerry.

  22. lionsmaverick says: May 4, 2011 9:53 PM

If Dez chooses to do the right things throughout his career, this kid has the potential to be the next “playmaker” for the cowboys. The question remains whether he will cash in on that potential or not.

  23. rajbais says: May 4, 2011 11:28 PM

Just blame Dez Bryant’s absences on T.O.!!!!!!!!!!!!

They blamed a “horrific” 9-7 season on Owens too!!!!

  24. rajbais says: May 4, 2011 11:28 PM

Just because Dez grew up in a background that was nothing like an ignorant and obnoxious sports writer it doesn’t mean that he’s has to be on probation!!!

  25. rajbais says: May 4, 2011 11:30 PM

Dez Bryant never graduated college, but these so-called “columnists” sound less educated than Bryant!!!

  26. kyedh3 says: May 4, 2011 11:53 PM

right on lightninglucci! Romo/Dez haters, take that! You don’t know what you’re talking about!

  27. Mr. C says: May 5, 2011 11:18 AM

So, if players are contacting Romo for missed practices etc. One could almost make the assumption Romo is the team leader, and the players respect him. Very Cool, and its about time!
