Checking in with PFT Planet: Asomugha’s future

We’ve got a big show Thursday on PFT Live, with Rex Ryan and Texans G.M. Rick Smith joining the program.

Before we hear from them, however, we wanted to hear from you.

Florio took questions from PFT Planet on Wednesday”s show.   We’ve got answers to questions on Nnamdi Asomugha’s future, the relative lack of interest in this NFL Draft,  and an update on labor negotiations.

Word out of Oakland is that Al Davis and Nnamdi had a good sit down during the time the Lockout was ended.

Word is that Nnamdi will be returning to the Oakland Raiders to finish the job he started. There was concern that Free Agency might not even happen this year but from my “sources” out of Oakland Big Al and Nnamdi will be having a little surprise for a bunch of folks soon.

If you go back through the years and read what Media have claimed will and will not happen with the Raiders. And then look at what actually went down one would think the Media was Deaf, Dumb and Blind or a Squirrel Looking for a Nut.

Good God, those poor UFL QB’s. That would be so funny seeing him own those players. Saw a little bit of a UFL game a few months ago and the QB matchup was Jeff Garcia vs. Dante Culpepper (both throwing to scrubs)…oh, the possibilities for Nnamdi. lol.

Can someone please fix this site?! The site seems to be forcing the browser to refresh to keep the stories I’m seeing up to date. Yet when I’m watching an embedded video it causes me to watch another stupid ad and try and find my place again.

Why would he go to any of those teams.. The Packers already have corners, and the rest of those teams. Let’s face it they’re know better than the Raiders…

Al Davis will not let this guy go.. He’s the face of the Nation and that matters.

    GO RAIDERS!!!

I don’t know where Nnamdi will end up, but when looking at the likely candidates, you should start with teams that have real needs in the secondary.

You can discount teams that run the Tampa 2, because they don’t utilize cover corners, so Chi/Tampa/Indy are out.

You can probably discount teams that took a DB with a first round pick the past few years, so NYG, Bmore and KC are out.

You can count out teams that aren’t -likely- to be competitive right away, bc if that were the cause, he’d likely stay with the Raiders after taking a bit of a pay cut. So count out teams like Washington, Arizona, Minnesota, Cincy, and Detroit (only bc GB and Chi are so far ahead of them in that division).

Finally you can throw out teams that won’t pay top dollar: NE (they let Assante walk rather than pay him top dollar), Pitt (Rooney NEVER pays top free agent price tags, they are a very successful core team),

You’re left with a handful of teams: Dallas has the biggest glaring need, and Jerry is known to pay big $ for free agents that he feels will produce. Green Bay is a possibility, but only if they cut Woodson or Harris. NYJ is a remote possibility, but I think they have too many glaring needs on offense first.

Mark this down he will be playing for the Eagles. They did not draft a corner for a reason.

Come on over to the Steelers, baby. It’s an entertaining organization. Lots of PFT coverage ;)

And tdk24, familiarizing yourself with color charts might help you understand there are many shades in the gold family. But if Asomugha comes to the Steelers, he can familiarize himself with the shining silver of our six Lombardi trophies. Is that better?

LOL! I live in Emeryville and follow the Raiders and Niners, I have heard NONE of this. I don’t know who your “sources” are (lol “sources”), but you should probably find some new ones. With the Richard Seymour signing the Raiders can’t really afford Nnamdi.

Additionally the media was deaf, dumb and blind? This year they said the Raiders would chase speed in the draft and what did they do? Went after speed.

If none of the teams were better then the Raiders then where were they in the playoffs? Lets face it they don’t go 6-0 in AFC West again (has never happened two years in a row so by odds you can discount it), they have a tougher schedule and are missing Nnamdi. I would say they are in the bottom half of the league and half of the teams in the NFL are better.

  23. kevpft says: May 5, 2011 2:23 PM

Big paycheck and big spotlight in Dallas. Lots of marquee games every year, and a lot of nationally-televised games.

I think the only thing holding Dallas back would be the question of how close they are to a championship. In that topsy-turvy division, a little swing could mean the difference between division winner and missing the playoffs. That makes every NFCE team a risk, but also an opportunity.

The question is, does this guy want a championship most of all, or fame, or a big paycheck? If a championship, go to NE. If fame or paycheck, go to Dallas or Pitt.

    @grulks

Harris has been gone for awhile. He plays for the Dolphins.

  25. bucneckid says: May 5, 2011 2:58 PM

If he ever meets Raheem Morris,
    He’ll be a Buc immediately.
Rah is a Player’s Coach and came up the ranks as the Bucs Defensive Backs coach and would take Nmandi for his “Hybrid” Tampa 2 in a heartbeat. Tampa 2 has evolved and the Bucs will need a long term CB1 once they finally get rid of Talib. They will not cut Talib unless the back up plan is in place and Nmandi is not just a replacement, he is an upgrade. The fact that he is not a felon will be a bonus.

Put it this way – if the Eagles don’t sign him, that thing you see hanging from city hall that looks like “10” will be Banner and Reid.
