Yeah, the new Republican controlled legislature here in Minnesota is consumed with important issues like drafting a constitutional amendment defining marriage as being strictly between a man and a woman. Also, limiting abortion rights, defunding health care for the poor, and busting teacher’s unions.

Gotta stick it to to little guys and the powerless first and foremost.

“Get it completed, I’ll sign it,” Dayton said. “Yes. Get it done. Get people to work.”

that's a pretty reckless, generalized statement. he should probably state unequivocally the parameters required of the bill for him to sign it -- particularly with a republican legislature.

this isn't a commentary on the vikings situation specifically, but I hate it when politicians claim that they're "creating jobs" when they fund a big project like this. Temporary construction projects are not JOBS. this is temporary work for a very specialized group of people. It's not like building a stadium is going to fix unemployment.

Locutus - Your logic is the same that leads to everyone getting the city, state, and federal government to fund their own pet projects.....and taking half my paycheck in the process.

I love football, I'd love to see it stay in Minnesota. Pay for it through ticket prices and advertising, anything but tax revenue.

The owners and players are fighting over a what to do with an extra billion dollars a year in revenue and you're arguing we should give them more?

You know, I did the calculations where we assumed the stadium cost 1 billion dollars and that the people would be responsible for an equal one third. It amounted to a little over 1 dollar per day for one year for each tax payer to pay for their share. This is the short sighted, cheap skate, head in the arse people that hopefully are only the most vocal when it comes to this stadium. If you cannot afford 1 dollar per day to keep the Vikings in Minnesota where they truly belong, then I do not think I can write what I truly feel on these boards as it won't clear the filters.

pretext - I'm a huge Vikings fan. Bleed purple. but...

whoa whoa whoa....let me get this straight.

The NFL owners and players need money from the State (which has a $5 billion budget shortfall) to build a new stadium?

Is this the same set of NFL owners and players that are currently pissing on each other in court because they can't figure out how to divvy up a billion a year?

I have an idea. How about the NFL put that billion a year into a stadium trust that funds one new stadium a year for each team? Every 32 years they all get new stadiums. Want one sooner? Your owner can pay for it themselves.

That won't work? OK..fine. We'll give you a billion for a new stadium and create a "performance tax" of 50% of your income for every professional football game played in Minnesota.

Why won't that work? oh ya...because the owners and players don't really give a rats backside about the fans or taxpayers. They just want more money.

Move to LA....I'm sick of this sham.

The new viking theme song

Hate Minneapolis
It's cold and it's damp
And all the people dressed like monkeys
Let's leave Chicago to the Eskimos
That town's a little bit too rugged
For you and me you bad girl

Rollin' down the Imperial Highway
With a big nasty redhead at my side
Santa Ana winds blowin' hot from the north
And we as born to ride

Roll down the window put down the top
Crank up the Beach Boys baby
Don't let the music stop
We're gonna ride it till we just can't ride it no more

>From the South Bay to the Valley
>From the West Side to the East Side
Everybody's very happy
'Cause the sun is shining all the time
Looks like another perfect day

I love L.A. (We love it)
I love L.A. (We love it)

Look at that mountain
Look at those trees
Look at that bum over there, man
He's down on his knees
Look at these women

How many professional sports franchises does California need? Honestly. 15 isn't enough. is 20? 30? Good god. California is bankrupt, they have already tried several teams in LA and it didn't work.

Lets not forget that the Dodgers can't even pay the bills, and the Kings (nba) is not being subsidized for a year.

What a joke. Go cheer for your other teams.

Are the Twins selling out this year? Have the Gophers ever sold out in their new 45,000 person stadium?

You can’t put lipstick on a pig. Minnesota fans are beyond pathetic. You could have free beer and handjobs at the new stadium and one 5-11 season later they’d be having Clear Channel buy up tickets to avoid a blackout.

Don’t think so? Last year the Target Field was jam-packed. This year, the Twins start slow, and the stadium is empty. Fact.

The Twins are averaging 38,380 per game, which is 97.2% of capacity, in a season in which they've started slowly, their stars are injured, and the weather has been terrible. I don't think that qualifies as the stadium being empty. Fact.

I'm from Minnesota and I want a stadium bill. I recognize that there is little to no economic impact of subsidizing this business vs. other businesses and I don't think that's relevant.

Sure, the economic impact of building stadiums is minimal to slightly negative, and sure we don't need a team here to improve the economy. That is something established in the literature.

But for some reasons, states still fund things that are revenue negative. That's why we tax people. The question is if the net expenditure is useful.

A wealth of research also indicates that the presence of multiple sports teams that cater to multiple interests tend to increase the quality of life and general happiness index of cities when other factors are controlled for. This increase in the quality of life and happiness is generally better than the increase from spending in other social policy. I'm not saying we should sacrifice welfare or education funding to keep the Vikings, but perhaps they are worth more to our state than corporate welfare to 3M or Best Buy.

Hey Vikings jackwagons…enjoy your trip to LA or better yet Canada. Don’t forget there are differences in the CFL, but you will get used to them. Oh wait. That would take a degree of intellgence. Sorry my bad.

You spelled intelligence wrong...... This really doesn't help your case in proving that Viking's fans are unintelligent.
