Cedric Benson says it wouldn’t be “healthy” to bring Carson Palmer back

With the Bengals drafting their quarterback of the future last month but apparently still holding out hope that Carson Palmer will choose to be their quarterback of the present, running back Cedric Benson thinks that, if Palmer wants out, the team should accommodate him.

“It wouldn’t be healthy for the team to bring him back,” Benson told Maurice Jones-Drew and Bryan McGovern of SiriusXM NFL Radio’s Late Hits, via McGovern’s Twitter page.

“To bring him back would be detrimental to the team,” Benson said of Palmer.  “If he’s there [and] not happy he’s not gonna give us his best.”

As to receiver Chad Ochocinco, Benson used more general words, but his point was clear.  “For this team to be a winner, management needs to make changes,” Benson said.

Of course, one of the potential changes could be Benson himself.  He’s due to become a free agent once the lockout ends, and there’s no guarantee that he’ll be back.

That’s funny…. we felt the same way about you here in Chicago Cedric.

“For this team to be a winner, management needs to make changes.”

That’s what some of us have been saying for years.

Hey, Benson, go back to Austin and smoke pot on your little motorboat.

C’mon man. Benson is a RB. IF he is back in Cincy, a rookie QB almost guarantees he gets more touches than he would with Palmer throwing to their new toy.

Worst case, The Bengals start the season without either Cedric or Carson. Heck they may not even have an NFL kicker by opening day. Brilliant. They’re just daring fans to watch the baseball playoffs instead.

Pretty realistic views and remarkably simple

Because Benson knows so much about being healthy…?

Ol’ Cedric is a real expert on team morale and how to motivate others. His leadership skills are certainly above reproach.

    WOW… Good job C.B.

Breaker breaker one nine… Leadership is coming to the Bengals…

I love Carson.. But I agree by telling the Bengals to trade him.. Carson quit on this team

Wow guys states the obvious. Then gets flogged by PFT comments.

I agree completely with Mr. Benson. The team has a good base of young guys on offense. Why screw that up by bringing back a guy who doesn’t want to be there.

As far as Ocho, IMO I would bring him back. Yeah hes a pain, yeah he talks to much. Whatever. Hes still good. And he can teach the young kid how to play and work like a pro. As long as the kid doesn’t pick up the rest of his deal, picking up OCho’s work ethic and skills is not a bad thing at all .

As long as they give up Joseph, I don’t care what they do. I really wanna see J.J. play for my Eagles. Please football gods make him a free agent and make Cincy think they don’t need him (in truth they probably don’t ) and make him want to come play with a winner like me Birds

Take away the int’s of Palmer and the bad route’s of Ocho and the team automatically improves.

One of those changes is to upgrade the RB position. Benson is over rated as ****. Screw resigning Benson, sign someone like DeAngelo Williams.

Don’t worry Ced, he’s not coming back. He doesn’t have to put up with Mike Brown’s BS anymore.

  14. hokiez says: May 11, 2011 11:55 PM

Off the air: Carson, take me with you!

Gotta love the haters. Cedric has been a beast the past two seasons. He will be a beast again this season.

Carson Palmer is overrated, but hey, at least he saved his money over the years.

    Good point Benson.

  17. carson9 says: May 12, 2011 3:17 AM

Carson did quit on us, and they should grant his wish and trade him. But trade him to a team that will never win a Super Bowl, a team like the Eagles would be nice….

  18. bucks12965 says: May 12, 2011 5:55 AM

He doesn’t say that the Bengals should trade Palmer…just that he shouldn’t come back.

Why would a team want to trade for a mediocre qb with an $11m per year contract?

  19. bengalsown says: May 12, 2011 8:17 AM

Your 7 fumbles last season weren’t very healthy either.

  20. whatswiththehate says: May 12, 2011 8:18 AM

Still waiting for these sports media folks to paint Carson into a spoilt diva with a big ego then send him out to be flogged by the fans like the way they seem to enjoy doing with certain players.

  21. jedicookie says: May 12, 2011 8:41 AM

It’s a shame that this franchise seems to regurgitate into its former self every few years.

3.5 ypc, and as many fumbles as he had TDs…. yeah that dude was such a BEAST!

Not really. He’s slightly above average at best.

  23. mlgrady1126 says: May 16, 2011 5:59 PM
