Getty ImagesSaints receiver Marques Colston has been remarkably consistent in his NFL career, especially considering he’s been consistently injured.
Colston underwent microfracture surgery on his right knee this offseason, according to Mike Triplett of the New Orleans Times-Picayune. Colston had the same surgery performed on his left knee in 2009 and had a procedure done on his wrist this offseason too.
It’s amazing Colston topped 1,000 yards for the fourth time in five years despite the injury. He played through it for most of the year before aggravating the injury in Week Sixteen, undergoing arthroscopic surgery, and then playing in the Saints’ playoff loss to Seattle the following week.
Colston always manages to perform, but the litany of surgeries could hurt his free agent stock in 2012 when his contract runs out.
Teammate Robert Meachem is coming off his own significant surgery on his ankle. Both players say they’ll be ready for training camp.
Too bad for Colston. Microfracure surgery is kind of a last ditch effort to repair a seriously damaged joint. He has been a really productive and exciting player.
Note to txchief – he already had the surgery back in 2009 and was still a beast that season and also last season. He’ll be fine. I do think the Saints could use an update at wideout though.
Tough guy, gotta admire him, even though he is not on my team
He’s like the energizer bunny. Good luck with this latest procedure. Somebody has to help the Saints bail out Brees.
Love Colston. Hope he never plays for another team.
Just out of curiosity who’s paying for it? Is the NFLPA trade org providing group insurance because I doubt that any NFL player can get insurance on their own.
I mean for God sakes I got denied for having allergies and carrying an epipen for an isolated incident. I can only imagine what it’s like for football players. Then when I finally did get covered it was with a $2,000 deductible.
It’s called COBRA, skins359
High risk fantasy option. Be care not to pick him too early. Great producer but he’s not getting any younger.
