The ruling that came today from the 8th circuit not only gave the owners the victory in the battle to keep the stay in place but they also stated in today’s statement that the owners are likely to win the verdict to overturn the liberal woman judge in Minnesota.

Come on guys. This isn’t rocket science. The door is open a crack. League…you present a meaningful proposal that shows you’re serious. Careful though, don’t give away the farm on the first go. Leave a little room to give later. Ok, now players…don’t all freak out because the league didn’t bow to your every wish. Breathe. Breathe. Ok, now make a counter offer. See, it’s not so hard. Back and forth. Back and forth.

This presumes that the NFL didn't give a meaninful proposal the last time around. To me, it seems like the NFL gave a pretty hardline proposal initially but move the ball and gave up alot prior to the expiration of the CBA. If I am the NFL, I am not going to treat this negotiate as if it is just starting. I am going to say.....hey we have already had to give, give, give on our end from where we originally started....now we need to see some movement on your side since you have totally refused our prior attempts to get a meaningful counteroffer from you.

So in short I think the NFL shouldn't negotiate against itself. Don't bend until you see that the players are legitamately willing to compromise.

The ruling that came today from the 8th circuit not only gave the owners the victory in the battle to keep the stay in place but they also stated in today’s statement that the owners are likely to win the verdict to overturn the liberal woman judge in Minnesota.
The players should quickly vote to fire the ambulance chaser Smith, who only knows how to file law suits and doesn’t know the first thing about negotiating ,and then hire an NFL veteran who knows his stuff (like Gene Upshaw),and get the union re-certified and get a reasonable CBA agreement, before the players start losing paychecks and worse.

As I have said all along, the owners can’t lose ,the only question there ever was is how much bigger a piece of the pie the owners will come away with.
Everyone knows that the old CBA was a bad deal for the owners and that they would take advantage of the clause in the contract to void the old CBA and start negotiations for a new, fair CBA.
Whatever deal the players finally sign, they could have had that or maybe even a better deal 2 Months ago !!!

The only thing that Smith was supposed to be good for is to file law suits and win in court and he has failed miserably at that, since the owners have defeated Smith in court,it's over !
Fire the useless bum and hire someone who knows what they are doing, someone who will make a tough but fair deal !

If anyone is surprised by this they should get their IQ checked. Seriously, there isn't going to be any progress in talks until the court rules on June 3rd. Both sides are waiting to hear the ruling because they both think they are going to win, both sides know that a ton of leverage comes with winning this court ruling, so they aren't going to put a deal in place when they can get a better deal after this court ruling. Whoever wins in court on June 3rd holds all the cards, so nothing productive is happening now and people should have already known this...

When I read your last post that there was a breakthrough, I knew that there was not any breakthrough.

A breakthrough will not come when the NFL makes an offer or tries to negotiate, a breakthrough will come when D. Smith decides to actually and in good faith respond to the NFL and owners in negotiations.

What did sort of surprise me though was the NFL's willingness to make another offer. But since the NFL and owners have been begging for negotiations, it is really not surprising that they are negotiating against themselves.

Prediction: This mess will not end anytime soon because D. Smith does not want it to end. He does not want to negotiate and I really do not think that he will negotiate until either the players tell him to or the players lose the anti-trust case.

FACT: D. Smith walked out of CBA negotiations, decertified the union, had certain players file suit, did not attend at least one of the court ordered mediation sessions, and now does not encourage any players to attend mediation.

Fans, players, and PFT employees that really want football need to tell D. Smith to get his butt into negotiations.

Just time to accept that fact.</i>

Nah.

If the owners win the 6/3 court case, the players will just accept whatever was offered.

If the players win, the owners would have to unlock the gates.

Come on guys. This isn't rocket science. The door is open a crack. League...you present a meaningful proposal that shows you're serious. Careful though, don't give away the farm on the first go. Leave a little room to give later. Ok, now players...don't all freak out because the league didn't bow to your every wish. Breathe. Breathe. Ok, now make a counter offer. See, it's not so hard. Back and forth. Back and forth.
