Ponder trying to get receivers together to practice

Under Armour Senior Bowl Getty Images

Jake Locker isn’t the only rookie quarterback hoping to get his teammates together for some workouts.

Jeremy Fowler of the St. Paul Pioneer Press reports No. 13 overall pick Christian Ponder setting up workouts in Florida this week with receivers Sidney Rice and Percy Harvin.

Apparently, Rice heard about Harvin and Ponder getting together, so he “direct messaged” Ponder on Twitter.  Very 2011.

Ponder has the Vikings playbook and could share it with Harvin and Rice while together.  Rice could leave the team as an unrestricted free agent, but he’s almost as likely to re-sign or get stuck there as a restricted free agent if we return to the 2010 league rules.

#12 overall pick. #13 was a player who will legitimately alter a game next season.

Ponder was the 12th overall selection, not 13.

    12th pick Gregg…

Percy and Rice need somebody to change the bong water, so no matter if 12th or 13th……

Apparently Vikings fans aren’t that bright. What he was saying is that the Vikings practically dislocated their shoulder reaching for Ponder when Fairley was available. I think he wants you to remember this when Ponder ends up flopping and getting cut and Fairley ends up being a Pro Bowl DT, supposedly.

It seems like Sidney might be checking out what Ponder can do to help him decide whether he wants to stay in Minnesota or leave town when FA starts back up.

At least Viking fans (well most of us) won’t be heading into the season with unrealistic expectations, or really any expectations.

By picking up 15 yard penalties?

I Ponder if the stadium will happen in the State of 10,000 ponds?

Why is it before the draft all you heard was the negatives about Nick Fairley? One-year wonder, attitude problem, dropping like a stone, etc. Now that the Vikings didn’t pick him, he’s all of a sudden the league’s next great superstar. Defensive linemen are just as likely to be busts as quarterbacks, and he plays the same position as Kevin Williams. The Vikings were never going to take him. Christian Ponder has all the makings of a very good NFL quarterback. Give him a chance.

With the owners having the upper hand, why would we return to 2010 league rules?

I have a feeling Ponder will be a good QB, maybe not great but solid. Happy to see he’s taking a leadership role. Also very positive news that Sidney Rice will be there. Skol!

Ponder wants to practice with the recievers

Favre wanted to practice with high schoolers.

Agreed! Seems like Vikes were ‘screwed’ by other fans no matter who they picked. Fairley was a big question mark before the draft and apparently now he is a superstar in the making! Bottom line – Vikings needed a QB more than they did a DT so why take the risk of losing the next best QB in the draft by trading back or waiting til the second round? In my opinion the Vikes did the right thing.

I don’t think any Lions fan should be talking smack until your own QB can make it through a season without falling down and breaking something. I hope Ponder makes it a whole season too. Until then all is mute.

True but the same can be said about any QB. Look at Brady. Honestly I thought he was untouchable/made of steel until his knee was buckeled on an unfortunate hit. Manning, Brees, Rodgers, (insert any QB’s name here), etc. are all one unfortunate hit away from breaking any hopes of a championship run. What matters is the quality of the O-line and, as with Brady, even that is not enough.

If Percy and Rice are explaining the playbook to your QB I don’t think there’s much hope.

Obviously, practicing can’t hurt the vikings… But will it help? What if Ponder hurts his shoulder again? What if Rice injures his hip? Or heaven forbid, Percy gets a head ache!

    4-12?

  22. oakleyfreak says: May 17, 2011 9:17 PM

Goombar2, that’s a lot of what ifs. If frogs had wings they wouldn’t bump their a$$. I’m just glad they don’t have you explaining the playbook ya Shmuck!

  23. technovike says: May 18, 2011 9:14 AM

you would think Peterson would want to practice with Ponder on his hand-offs. instead hes practicing with Young.

Trade in place for Moss from the Titans? another 3rd round pick maybe? or Peterson for Moss this time…..

  24. supersuckers3 says: May 18, 2011 11:14 PM

Why does Ponder even ponder passing? I mean you could take a knee and kick a 56 yard field goal. This isn’t Detroit man this is for the Super Bowl!!!! Can you imagine how many times Viking fans are going to think of that ill advised pass by Favre every time they hear Ponder’s name?
