I bought up Randall. Because if he got the backing Reid and the Eagles management as whole gave McNabb. Plus any kind of coaching that is needed to become a successful NFL QB. Plus one of the best lines and a HOF calibre talent like B-West. He would have surely been in the HOF. Look at Randall's Numbers with the Vikings. Plus while he was the Eagles Qb the Nfc East owned the Nfl. with the Redskins Giants and Cowgirls winning many Super Bowls.

To compare McNabb with Barry Sanders in any way what so ever is a joke. Not only did the Nfc East suck during most of McNabb's time The Whole Nfc did as well. McNabb Had one of the best offensive lines (The most important thing for a QB to have to be succesful) and one of the best weapons in the entire NFL in B-West. Which was way more than Randall Cunningham ever had. HOF Qbs make mediocre WRs/RBs good. McNabb made mediocre WRs/Rbs terrible. The problem is that McNabb lovers way way overvalue him as a HOF QB and buy into his Whiny nothing is my fault persona. While McNabb haters unjustly call him a terrible Qb. Instead of what he was a very good QB.Who never became a HOF QB because he choked when it mattered most.

"I would rather have had a decade of near misses than 1 championship and nine years of suckage! "

I thought that once, and then the Phillies won. Anyone at that parade now knows better.

Plus, it seems like teams in Pittsburgh and New England get to be consistently good AND win Super Bowls.

Can't we aspire to that? Or are we stuck in the pre-World Series mentality of low expectations?

Come on guys... calm down. The amount of success McNabb had over a 10 year run cannot be disputed. During his time with the Eagles, he was a talented, yet inconsistent player. It was a great run and only a fool would try to make it less (or more) than what it was. It was an awesome time to be an Eagles fan. Having a competitive team for a decade, that always seemed on the cusp of a championship, was tremendous. I would rather have had a decade of near misses than 1 championship and nine years of suckage! And I bet most other NFL cities would have cherished the production and excitement that McNabb and the Eagles generated for 10 years.

Ten years. When he won, it was a case of him carrying a bunch of sad sacks. When he lost, it was because of the sad sacks.

It was a team game when they lost, a triumph of his own individual talent when they won.

If it is a team game and the QB position, or any one for that matter, doesn't matter...why not just go with Grossman? Or Beck? Or you?

Most of your post is the classic McNabb straw man argument. You just move the goalposts as it suits you.

Boring. I was having these excuses back in the last decade.

Shaggytoodle- Of course the majority of PFT planet would bat 9th for that amount but unlike us Posada has been one of the more talented baseball players over the last decade and has busted his ass for probably his whole life to be an all star player although he is on the decline now. Furthermore there was a lot more behind the scenes stuff you left out in your post to prove your point.

Oh and also it’s “already” not “all ready” and “too” not “to” hence why I’m sure your not being paid 71,000 to do any job.
___________________________

You are correct on me leaving things out, and I am sure Posada and the mangers are the only ones that know the WHOLE story, but any time I hear a ball player asking to be let out of the line up, because he has to bat 9th (which is the main story I heard from articles I have read) You need to quit complaining and do what your manager asks.

I am TRUELY sorry that my post typo upset you. Next time Ill only have 10 beers before I post and hopefully I can proof read a little better for the grammer police.

Moochzilla thinks that it's only the quarterback that wins the games. I say that he can't do his job when others don't do theirs ..... which means that teams win when all of the players do their parts. Moochzilla discounts team play by saying that McNabb wins when everyone plays well. I say that everyone wins when everyone plays well. And, everyone loses when everyone plays poorly. It appears to me that there is some bias on his part. I bet that he thinks that Barry Sanders is one of the best running backs that played the game (he would be right!), but how does Moochzilla factor in the other statistic that Barry achieved ..... most lost yards of any running back. It's a team sport!!!

Mage, it’ll never be McNabb’s fault will it?

He’s the only QB in history that needed ALL of the following (according to his defenders):

1) GREAT players at every skill position

2) GREAT offensive lineman

3) A team where every player is in their prime, so they don’t “show their youth”

4) A strong running game that takes the pressure of him

5) A coach who crafts the ideal gameplan for him

6) A top defense

7) A fan base that never gets on him and boos
8) A sports media that never asks him to take responsibility

Am I missing anything else from the laundry list of excuses you people make?
_____________________________
This sounds a whole lot like the excuses a segment of Pats fans used to make for Bledsoe.
McNabb and Bledsoe were in many ways similar though DB didn't whine to the press that much and he wasn't the king of passive aggressiveness...he was almost as selfish and uncoachable but more quietly.

"Donovan McNabb is a top tier quarterback."

Based on what? "Class"?

"It’s very difficult to do what he does when the line doesn’t do it’s job, the receivers don’t do their jobs, and the coaches don’t do their jobs."

All classic excuses I heard every day he was here, for over a decade. No matter what the talent level was. Funny, it was good enough to be favored in several NFC title games that were choked away to inferior competition.

"McNabb spends most of his time on his back, running around in the back field, or watching his passes get dropped."

More excuses. Hard to catch balls thrown high / low. Surely you won't contend he's been accurate at any stage of his career. Would you?

"None of these causes are due to him or his performance."

So when they win, it's all McNabb. When they lose, it's everyone else. Wow, must be nice. Heads he wins, tales you lose.

Oh and also it's "already" not "all ready" and "too" not "to" hence why I'm sure your not being paid 71,000 to do any job.

I'd like to point out also this is not me coming to Posada or the Yankees defense because quite honestly I can't stand them but you can't use just part of a story to prove your point.

"McNabb never said that a wristband would make him look stupid. What he did say was that he wasn’t going to cover for the retarded son of a head coach who doesn’t know the offense."

Riiiiigggggghhht. So let me get this straight....Kyle Shanahan who called the plays for and designed the Offense that led the league in Texas with Matt freak Shaub at the helm who had Rex Grossman outplaying McNabb and able to process a wider variety of plays because he played in that system for 2 years...didn't know the offense. Seriously you mental midget put down the crack pipe push away from the desk and take 3 steps backward.

It's absolutely comical watching rubes like you trying to convince anyone that Kyle Shanahan sucks, the guy is one of the brighter offensive minds in the league and is known for such. But hey rant on, facts don't seem to be much of an obstacle for you!

Mage, it'll never be McNabb's fault will it?

He's the only QB in history that needed ALL of the following (according to his defenders):

1) GREAT players at every skill position

2) GREAT offensive lineman

3) A team where every player is in their prime, so they don't "show their youth"

You also make two factually incorrect statements:

1) Donovan complained about his weapons until the minute he was traded, because they were too young and made mistakes that made him look bad. And McNabb could never stand to look bad. Did you miss the post Dallas comment about "our youth" being the reason they lost the game?

2) The NFC East was A JOKE for most of McNabb's run. Redskins were pitiful, Dallas was sad, and the Giants spent half of it rebuilding. Look it up - what was Donovan's record vs winning teams? How about playoff teams? And anecdotally, how many games did you sit there and say "we shouldn't have won that game but we did, because they are better"? I counted maybe 5-6 times in a decade, and some of those were AJ or Garcia at the helm.

You are not a fan of the Eagles. Stop pretending you knew what happened here because you read an article in ESPN Magazine.
