Look, the sooner everyone sees that the owners are just trying to get to the first players’ missed paychecks, the faster this ends. As for me, I just need to know if the bus to hell has wifi. I’m not lugging that ipad around for nothing…

One team has shown the most class and yes boy’s and girls its the Giants

And all of this while they’re paying for that nice new stadium. As an Eagles fan, I clearly don’t love the Giants. I do, however, have a great deal of respect for their ownership and front office. Heck, I even respect the team they put on the field. I still want to see my Eagles beat them at every opportunity of course.

The NFLAPA need to toss in the towel. The owners clearly have the advantage in the court system. Letting this continue in the courts is going to cause harm to non-contracted employees, paid interns, vendors, contractors, media members that cover the games and local businesses, as these individuals won’t get paid, will get paid less and/or lose money as a direct result of the lock out. Aside from the fans, these individuals have the most to lose from the lockout. If it makes hm happy, D-Smith can even spin it in the media that the players caved in order to have football, so the fans and the aforementioned individuals aren’t screwed. Get a deal done!!!!!!!!!!

Let me get this straight, the owners are slashing salaries (or in the case of the Raiders, forcing all employees to sell tickets to games their own marketing department can’t sell to avoid pay cuts) without reducing their employees working hours and laying people off despite the fact that no games or tv money have yet been lost, and you go on a rant about the players? Side with the owners all you want, but at least use a little common sense.

As for the owners having an advantage in the courts, they got the stay they wanted. So far, that’s it. Even if they win the appeal, that’s simply about the lockout. If they can starve the players into submission, the owners win. If the players can hold out until the actual anti-trust case makes it to court, the owners are in serious trouble. Personally, I’d love to see them try to argue that they aren’t fixing costs and prices, or preventing the movement of employees from one company to another. Those are the very duties the league was created to carry out. The one thing we do agree on is that a deal needs to be reached much sooner than that process would take. To do that, both sides need to compromise.

One final note, we fans are not the ones suffering most in this stand off. Maybe we’ll see a fall off in performance early in the year, and maybe we’ll even miss some games. All of that is just entertainment. While it would suck to lose it, it’s nothing compared to what the people that work in the $2 billion a year fantasy football market, the team and league employees, the restaurants and bars, and the stores near the stadiums will lose out on if games are missed. Oh, and let’s not forget the local and state governments that have already put up hundreds of millions of dollars to build some of these stadiums. The league strong armed them into giving up that kind of money with threats that their team would be moved, and that they’d lose the revenue that comes from people attending those games. Now, for all of that money they’ve paid out, the league could simply keep the players locked out to the point that games are lost.

Not even close. A smart businessman knows that a quality product pays off in time. They also know that they only way to make a better product is to reinvest in the company. For a normal business that means R&D, Marketing, etc. For a football team it means better players, better coaches, and better front office staff. The better the team you field, the more tickets (and everything that goes with attendance, e.g. concessions, parking, etc) and merchandise you sell. In other words, income increases. That increase in income, along with the increase in reputation that comes from being a perennially competitive team, increases the value of the franchise itself. That’s important when you figure that, much like stock, the real profit comes from an increase in the value of the actual investment.

The problem with owners like Bidwell is that they think only in the short-term. In cutting costs at the expense of the competitiveness of the franchise, Bidwell boosts his profit margin in the short term, but costs himself both income and limits the increase in value of the franchise in the long-term.

Question: How many Super Bowls has Bidwell got with his business acumen? If he is such a smart business man, why are the Cardinals 23rd in the league in overall value and at the bottom in overall operating income?

That has nothing to do with the fact that unpaid work furlough for those that make the least amount of money is a very bad practice for the NFL. It is just a necessary step that comes as a result of a bad decision.

Maybe Mara is so “classy” with you guys because he got his half of the team the old fashioned way, he inherited it. He can afford to be loose with found money. If anyone could afford to stay “classy” and not extract a PSL, you’d think it would be him. But no, not Mr. “Classy.” Enjoy your PSL in that overgrown microwave. And please, please, stay “classy.”

‘you reap what you sow’…..’what goes around, comes around’…..HIS TIME WELL EVENTUALLY COME !!!

Because it is an unpaid work furlough – they have to ensure that the employees are not working during this time – otherwise they would have to be paid. By communicating this they are protecting themselves in case a wage and hour claim is made against them.

These people don’t deserve it because they aren’t the one’s suing the league or having the dispute with ownership. What do people think that “warchest” of money from TV deals was going to be used for? Paying their normal employees, but of course the players and Judge Doty made sure and put a stop to that.

That being said, Bidwell has always been a cheap ass, and he should have prepared for the lockout better, just like the broke ass players taking out loans.

Also, back in the days before computerized, league-wide video services and exchanges, the Cardinals made the play-offs, but Bidwill would allow the director of video to duplicate only the opponent’s previous 3 games because he did not want the additional cost for duplicating more game film. The opponent had all of the Cardinals’ film, but the Cardinal coaches and players were hamstrung by Bidwill’s cheap mentality.

I never will forget when Don Coryell was the head coach when the franchise was back in St. Louis and Bidwill’s wife picked a QB as draft choice from a picture in the Street and Smith magazine. “He looks like a nice, clean cut young man,” was her comment. The kid had a bad arm and could not throw the ball across the street, but the Cards drafted him anyway.
