yeah…except Orton is still the top QB on Denver’s depth-chart and he has another year on his contract. Since Tebow is completely unproven (1 win, 3 losses and some serious issues in his passing game), I seriously doubt that Denver will give up it’s only proven commodity at QB for “a third or fourth-round pick”. I know how much the TT worshipers and Vike’s fans would love to see Neckbeard go to Min for a developmental draft pick. But, let’s face facts; The Broncos organization isn’t eager to dump Orton. And Orton MIGHT be more valuable to the Donks offense than any other player they have on that side of the ball.

Ok, if I were running the team I would have given, before the draft, a 3 and Ray Edwards for Orton. Wait a minute, make that a 2. Then I would have upgraded either the dline or the oline with the #1. Ray would probably be an upgrade for the Bronco’s, and he would be happy because he would be making about the same money as his backup.

As it is, I don’t think Orton would want to come to the Vikes knowing he’s one bad game away from the bench. Also, on a decent team, I think he would be in the top third of QB’s in the league. He ran for his life last year, had a terrible running game, and still had a good year. If Orton were willing, Ray E. and next year’s three would be about right.

And if Orton ends up with the Vikes, the Bear’s games will be must see tv. I’d love to see the look on Cutler’s face if they lost.

I’ve always liked Orton, even when he played for the Bears. Obviously not what you are trying to get to starter-wise but a solid backup and a guy who isn’t going to complain about his role.

The thing is, McNabb would be an easy qb to beat for Ponder. McNabb’s getting old, he isn’t as athletic, his arm ain’t what it used to be and he was never known for accuracy.

Orton is pretty safe with the ball, is relatively young, has just as strong an arm as Ponder… Orton is gonna make better decisions that a rookie and it will take reps for Ponder to get better.

Are fans in Minnesota going to just sit on there hands when things don’t take off well for Ponder or are they gonna boo him and call for Orton?

Sure, McNabb sucks more and gives the vikes less of a chance today, but it’s an easy tomato can for Ponder to kick when he’s ready.

He is a perfect match for a team that has a guy with little to no experience and a rookie in Minnesota?
Isnt that the same exact thing they have in Denver.
How can the donks look at there 3 choices and think they need to trade Orton? Who is clearly far superior to anyone else they have on the roster. Not that he is that great, just better then the other 2.
The only reason they would have to start tebust or quinn (over orton) would be if they want to have a shot at Luck next year.

No way Orton goes for less than a 2nd round pick.
There’s around 10 top tier QBs in the NFL, and another 10 or so a notch down. Orton fits in the second tier, but that still leaves around 12 teams whom Orton would be an immediate and substantial upgrade.
When things finally open up in the free agent and trade markets Orton will be a hot commodity with more than a few bidders. The NFL is all about the QB position and if you have other pieces in place with a fair amount of talent then it makes good sense to trade a 2nd for Orton.

Who here said he was the “answer”? Obviously we’re in rebuilding mode, and Orton as QB would be more reliable than Webb or Ponder at this point. It’s not that hard to understand.

I didn’t think it was possible, but the Packer fans on here have gotten even number than before.

1 thing I can’t understand. How can you be a fan of a team with a flaming GM? TT better known as Tonsils from his playing days, drafts ” packer types”, they of the flowing locks and girlish skip jump celebrations.
How can anyone in the locker room be comfortable with a 50 some year old walking around with tent pants?
Seattle got rid of him for that very reason. In GB , this doesn’t appear to new problem.

I just don’t trust a guy who is rumored to have dropped the soap several times in the Houston locker room. It’s no wonder that the players had him kicked off the team.

So the vikes are looking to bring in an efficient passer in his prime to compete against a rookie with a weak wing who will not have got through much off-season to compete for a job… This could kill Ponder’s confidence and might start a qb controversy.

If Kevin Kolb who has started only 7 games in his career is worth more than a number 1 pick, then the Broncos would be foolish to take a 3rd or 4th. If anyone wants Orton they will have to pay for him, he isn’t worse than Kevin Kolb. Buyer beware on Kolb, more than likely he is the next Feely.

Orton is a good, solid quarterback. Nothing flashy, but he’s fairly accurate with a decent arm, very smart with the ball, and a true professional. Essentially, he’s one of the leaders of the peloton of QBs in the league- and that’s still pretty damned good. I don’t know if he will ever be “great”, but with a stout D and a running game he’ll almost always do well enough to win.

He would be a good fit for the Vikings (or any number of other teams not named the Broncos). Feel a little bad for him if he becomes, yet again, another transitional QB though.
