I agree that in principle players who felt strongly enough to have their names on the suit should say SOMETHING...even if it's sort of neutral. Brady has said recently that there needs to be compromise but nothing much beyond that.

Much as I think Brees is coming off as a tad bit pugilistic with his comments and I don't like his tone much of the time in regards to that, I give him credit for speaking out very vehemently to back his name on the suit.

Btw, he stiffed those kids last season.

The star quarterback was supposed to visit a year ago but didn’t make it.

“It was a contest. We knew what the contest consisted of. We knew it consisted of Peyton Manning coming here,” Czarnowski said.

“Maybe he didn’t want to come, that’s why it’s taken him so long to get here. I don’t know. He was supposed to be here (last year), and he didn’t show up, and we’re happy to have him here this year.”

The obvious reason is that he and everyone else knows that this lawsuit is about leverage and not the end result. He can't say what he truly feels which is that the decert is a sham and the lawsuit is a way to get leverage, because that will be used against him. So he is just keeping quiet.

My guess is that he and most other player are starting to realize this course of action is not what they signed up for. I think DeSmith sold them snake oil. The only problem is there is no easy out... Oh wait, yes there is. Fire DeSmith and get back to the negotiating table.

I believe that he is following his attorney's advice. Talk to no one and have minimal contact with his employers and the press.
The caveat to this is his contract negotiations. Suppose the Colts have the same advice from their attorney, and have no contact with a named plaintiff sueing the team(s) pending the resolution of the lawsuit. That would result in no contract with Manning, and since he is a free agent, the end of his career since he is under contract with no team at the moment. The liability in case of him being injured on the premises COULD place the team in a terrible legal position. Besides, with his demonstrated propensity to file lawsuits...........

Just a thought, what are the opinions on that issue?

or because he fears that he may say something that he shouldn’t say.

---------------------------

I'm guessing that is the case. Anything he says could cost him money in endorsements. As it is, people don't really associate Manning with this mess as his name doesn't come up at all. If you are a named defendant you should be publicly available to comment on the case at least once a week. After all, you felt strongly enough to put your name on the suit, own up to it.

"Though Manning rarely speaks to the media unless he’s getting paid many thousands of dollars by one of his sponsors to do so."
------------------------------

Did I miss something??? Isn't Manning one of the most frequently interviewed NFL players today? I think he does an impromtu on-field postgame interview after every game... followed by speaking at the podium after ever game too.

Also, has spoken at hundreds of charity events and donated over $5 million of his own money to a childrens hospital in Indy (without media presence)...

Considering the basic point of the article is "Star QB wants to maintain his privacy durring offseason", and not "Another NFL Player calls himself a 'slave' or "another NFL player arrested for DUI", I don't understand why the need to take cheap shots like"bitter beer Manning face" etc...

PFT said: "As the objective evidence continues to point to the possibility that the NFLPA* has adopted a litigate-don’t-negotiate strategy until the court system yields significant leverage (even if it takes a lost season or more to get there), ..."
-------------------------------------

Finally, but you need to take out the word "possibility" and replace it with the word "fact".

I don't blame Manning for not talking to the press though he should not have put his name on the suit. Who would want to be associated with this mess?

FACT: D. Smith walked out of CBA negotiations, decertified the union, had certain players file suit, and then did not attend at least one court ordered mediation session.

Fans, players, and PFT employees that treally want football need to tell D. Smith to get his butt into negotiations.

Surprise, surprise - a player with a brain.

Just look at the way some of dumber members of this site react to anything he says - now imagine the responses of those of us who can tie our own shoes when someone of his fortune tries to talk about injustice.

Better off to the "cause" to just keep yer million dollar mouth shut.

Every day of this nonsens that passese demands a first game boycott, regardless of the outcome.
