Peyton Manning = one of the most over-rated QBs of all-time. He is a choke artist of supreme order. The only way he won one SB was because his defense (which was subpar during the season), became the best in the playoffs..otherwise, everyone would still be saying he cannot win the big one. Look at his meager playoff record.

Comparing him to Brady is a joke. Brady plays in bad weather and still breaks his records......and has equaled him in this career with average offensive personnel.

Nobody has ever been given more offensive talent in the history of the league than Manning and the results do not speak to success. One SB (and that was because his defense rose up) Sure he has great stats but look at all the other QBs that are besting his records now (Brees, Brady, Rivers). Time will show that these big stats are a result of how the game has changed..............

.....sorry Manning fans!

I still think Montana is better than both. Guy like never choked after he started winning, and they both have one choke each. Still #2 and #3 though.
However- Brady is the qb you'd rather have simply because Manning syphons off so much versatility on the team. Everything has to be drafted, trained, coached, and practice around him, even the defense, strangely enough. If he's snapped off at the drumstick, your season is over, the brain's been killed. When Brady got hurt, multiple vines grew in his place and they missed the playoffs at 11-5 winning 4 or 5 straight. Some people think this hurts TB, but the fact is he wants to win more than any other QB every single year, and I'd rather have that than anything else.

This is really simple , who has more Rings ? Who has more MVP awards , who set the regular season TD record ? Brady is better without a doubt , Manning use to be a bit better , but now he is an interception throwing machine , i will always remember that interception in the superbowl were he let his whole team down , SHARPER FOR THE PICK 6 .
1A, 1b, 1c......Montana, Brady, Manning.....in any order u like...Montana and Brady are one in the same if u ask me, and that's not a bad thing......manning reminds me of Jim Kelly with his ability to call his own plays, although JK I believe had a better record in the play offs (not counting super bowls of course)....I've watched Brady kick our ass for 10 years but don't underestimate calling ur own plays....other than manning / Kelly, who else was very good at it....
Anyways, that my list of top 3 , all bunched together

Okay, everyone keeps talking about Peyton's offensive weapons. Anyone ever think that he makes them great? Literally, can anyone name ANY WR or TE that Manning played a significant amount of snaps with that didn't produce???

Marvin Harrison, Reggie Wayne, Anthony Gonzales, Pierre Garcon, Brandon Stoakley, Dallas Clark, Tamme, Austin Collie, Marcus Pollard, Blaire White...

Literally, can anyone name someone who played a decent amount of downs with the guy that didn't produce??? Is Polian really that great and NEVER missed on a draft pick? I doubt it, I literally think he can make anyone look good...

There's no comparison between the number of high picks the Colts have used to help Manning and the Indy offense vs. the number NE has used to help Brady over the years. No comparison. It's right there for everyone to see.
And Brady has helped more than his share of pedestrian WR's put up numbers. What'd Deion Branch, Daniel Graham and David Givens do after they left town for big bucks? All 3 were unquestionably bad signings by Seattle, Denver and Tenn.
Reche Caldwell was NE's #1 receiver in '06, The next year, in '07, he was the Redskins #5 receiver before being waived and never heard from again. One thing worth mentioning. Manning’s offense was filled with numerous first round picks. Over the years, Brady has had to line up with much less.

Explain how he took the Colts to the Super Bowl with a fledgling Collie and Garcon? Did you ever consider that Dallas Clark and Reggie Wayne could have been just two more "guys" in the league if they weren't playing with Manning? And this is coming from a huge Clark fan. The guy makes people infinitely better due to his style and scheme. Period.

Championships, MVPs, wins, TD/INT ratio, hair, forehead surface area...
There are many ways we may go about evaluating and ranking QBs, however football is a team sport. A sport that relies heavily on a lucky bounce here, the grazing of a fingertip there and in LT's case, the purity of the charlie. Coaches have a say, coordinators have a say, trainers have a say, mistresses have a say.
In the end, all we can do as fans is sit back and watch and evaluate greatness for ourselves using that same word that is used to assess so many athletes, let alone QBs..."intangibles." Greatness is like the classic definition of obscenity. We know it when we see it.
Tom Brady is great, there is no doubt. But my money is on Peyton. I've seen him do too many great things. I've marveled at too many of his performances for me to allow a 9-10 playoff record be the be all and end all of assessing his greatness.
One guy I feel for is Donovan McNabb. For several seasons he was a dominant QB in this league and all he does is get crapped on. There is no bigger Giants fan than me and I gotta tell you, seeing this guy twice a year for all those years, that guy is great. His only knock, aside from the aspersions cast on his Super Bowl two minute drill, is that he randomly throws balls into the ground. Sometimes I have to believe this is on purpose, but he did/does do this a lot.
The last decade's great QBs:
Peyton, Brady, McNabb, Brees, Rodgers.
Rodgers is the next Joe Montana.
Someone said something about Peyton throwing interceptions at the most inopportune of times, but that honor obviously goes to Favre. While Favre has a lot of great numbers and many consider him a great, the guy just threw too many soul crushing INTs throughout his entire career, not just in the NFC Championship against my beloved Giants.

So Trent Dilfer was better than Dan Marino?

That is an absurd comment. Dilfer was garbage & everyone knows it. How many QB's get cut after winning a Super Bowl..?

It's also what makes endless sports arguments. There are always exceptions. To use the championship comment in that context with a ridiculous statement comparing Dilfer to Marino is just retarded.

NOBODY...... probably not even Dilfers own mother would consider him as good as Marino. Nobody in their right mind would use the word great to describe Dilfer. Dilfer is not even in the top 100 greatest QB's of all time.

Polian used all his high picks to help Manning and his offense. Wayne, Gonzalez, Addai, Tarik Glenn all 1st rounders, Dallas Clark and others in the 2nd, etc...
So Polian decides to use most of his picks on offense; a conscious choice to try and win shootouts because he knew he had a great QB. Please explain how, statistically, that doesn't benefit Peyton?

Not only is Peyton the best QB I have ever seen play the game, he should have won 5-6 mvp’s. He is truly the most valuable player.

southbeach must be pretty young.

Manning is a great QB, no doubt. He may just be the best student of the game to ever play QB. He is meticulous, & very efficient. However, his playoff record is less than stellar. Not hate... just facts. I liken Manning to Marino. At the time... Marino was throwing up numbers, that were far above anyone else. He was amazing. Just couldnt get the rings.

When talking all-time... unless Manning gets at LEAST another ring, he wont be in the top 5 all-time. The game is defined by winning championships. Guys like Bart Starr, Joe Montana, Terry Bradshaw, Roger Staubach, Tom Brady, etc.. will be above Manning (like they are above Marino) unless Manning wins more championships.

Dont get me wrong, I believe Manning is great. Possibly the most talented ever. It takes more than talent to be great though. It takes heart.

IMO to be in the top of the all-time list.... you have to win championships.

Peyton Manning is someone you love to hate because he is so good. He will break all the records and stand on top when all is said and done.
My issue is fan based. Which QB was the most exciting and gave the fans the most excitement. Yes in Indiana they can say Manning, and it NE they can say Brady but over the years, were talking league excitement, someone you wanted to watch even if on another team:

1. Bret Favre
2. Bobby Layne
3. Fran Tarkington
4. Joe Montana
5. Joe Namath

These guys made the NFL exciting to watch and that has something more to say that passes completed and games won.

Peyton Manning is no longer in the league as an active qb. He has no contract with any team. If the season started tomorrow, he would not be playing.
Pretty stupid to rate qbs not in the league against those who are in the league, wouldn’t you say? He would be more fitting in a list of FORMER NFL qbs.

I'm a Redskins fan, so I obviously have no bias (we don't have a legitimate qb on our roster, and have not had one for a very long time). If you put Manning on any team, they instantly become a contender. Brady has a nice skill set, but the mental preparation and genius that is Manning has no comparison. What happened when Brady was hurt? The Patriots were still good. They just have a great coach, who may be a cheater, but he's still a great coach.

Peyton Manning > Tom Brady and every other QB in the league
