Rams G.M. Billy Devaney admitted last month on PFT Live that he’s done a poor job getting help for Steven Jackson in the Rams backfield.

After passing on running backs in the draft, the need is more desperate than ever. St. Louis figures to invest in a third down back in free agency, with Carnell “Cadillac” Williams being the latest name floated.

Pro Football Weekly writes that Williams is “generating some behind-the-scenes buzz” at Rams Park. Their source believes Williams would be a perfect fit, especially since he accepted a backup role in Tampa.

Williams is excellent in the passing game as a blocker and receiver, so he’d make a lot of sense for the Rams at the right price. (He also hasn’t averaged four yards-per-carry since his rookie season, so he won’t get a starting job elsewhere.)

For a team with a lot invested at running back already, Cadillac would make for a better fit in St. Louis than more expensive options like Reggie Bush or Darren Sproles.
