Um. One million people gave in applications to McDonalds for only 50,000 positions. People are pretty desperate for jobs. You just don’t quit your job and get hired somewhere else immediately these days.

Not coach’s salaries, anyway. Jerry Jones is the only owner that has promised no layoffs and no pay reductions as far as I can tell.

So for the dolphins the guy making $50k a year loses up to $5k (10%). I guess the owners of the dolphins need that $5k more than the guy trying to feed his family…it’s a sad day when someone who has riches beyond belief can take someone’s pay who is just trying to provide for his/her family.

Um, they have the option of looking for employment elsewhere? This doesn’t make sense. I had the same thing happen to me with the company I used to work for. They cut some of the staff’s pay 20% and gave us Friday during a slow time. I found a different job.

However, last I checked, it is May. And just like every other May since the NFL was founded, there are no football games on the schedule for 4 months.

So, please, explain to me the source of all this “lost” or “reduced” income. Utter BS. and very, very poor management.

Let’s see…no games for another 4 months. No progress of any kind towards a CBA. Slow-moving court cases that could take forever to get heard then appeal. Meaning no income and no immediate prospect of income. At first I got a sense you were arguing with me, but your statements seem to be agreeable so thanks for that. It can be hard to judge “tone” reading on the web.

Except that part about a “source” of lost income. Non-existent income, by it’s very nature, has no source.

Title: “The list of teams cutting pay during the lockout”

Story: List 19 teams that “are cutting employees’ salaries and which ones have vowed not to do so.”

The Problem: The 19 teams are all mixed together so that it looks like 19 teams have cut pay of non-players. This is simply not true.

You should have listed the teams that were cutting pay separately from the teams that were not cutting pay. I realize that that would not serve your purpose of trying to make the owners look bad, but it would be honest.

Political motivation? Dan’s position is appointed, not elected so he has no voting public to appease. And I can assure you he has no ambitions to run for public office at age 79. He’s long been involved in the delicate negotiations to bring peace to the North of Ireland; that’s why he was appointed Ambassador to Ireland.

Besides, Art II–not Dan–has been running day-to-day operations of the Steelers for many years now. And he’s running the team according to the same principles followed by his grandfather since the team was founded in 1933. The Steelers have always been a people-friendly organization, though the Rooneys aren’t known as big spenders. Some players have said through the years they’d rather stay with the organization and be treated well than go elsewhere and be paid more.

Dan was instrumental in negotiating the previous CBA, which was so generous to the players. So the Rooneys aren’t scrambling to hoard all the revenues to themselves.

I completely understand your view, however, no team reported they lost money. All made nice profits. I’m not sure about GB making only $5m profit. I’d have to look into that more. My point is the owners and league have been planning this for 2 years and have put millions away for lockout costs…sure the tv contract thing has hurt them, but they still have A LOT of money put away for this. Did they not think about their employees? Yes, that is why they put lockout language in each contract employee allowing them to cut pay if there is a lockout. They knew they were going to “screw” their employees for 2 years now.

How much money can they really be saving in payroll by making these cuts $1-2 million over the next 5 months, if that? That is nothing for an nfl team. The league has cut everyone’s salary by 12%…come on, they make billions why make the ppl who are grinding away for them suffer?

The cuts are not because of bad season ticket sales. They are posturing and to make a point, nothing more. Why wouldn’t teams who struggle to sell tix every year layoff ppl every year, or cut salaries? The bulk of revenue that teams make come from TV and luxury seats (boxes, club). If the bulk of premium seats sell out owners lose hardly anything if the $70 tix don’t sell. They make millions from TV, even if the game is blacked out.

While I understand your point and agree with some of it I just wanted to point out the nfl is not at the point they should be cutting anyone’s salary and it is wrong.

Apples to Cumquats Kevin, Supporting the owners on CBA side because the PLAYERS walked out without making a counter offer to either of the TWO offers the owners made does not mean you support the owners in every business decision they make.

In the grown up world people can see the differences. Of course, if people can’t make that type of distinction, it certainly explains all the “pro-player” people who refuse to acknowledge that there would possibly be a new CBA if not for DeMoron walking away from negotiations.

Sure, maybe Ambassador Rooney is just a good guy, the nice one …. or maybe he may have some political motivations as well, I’m sure there’s a method to his madness.
