I am intrigued by this statement. Yes, David Akers is a kicker, but he is a long-time veteran of the league and, from what I have heard, quite well respected by his peers.

So if David Akers doesn’t feel like his opinion is worth anything, it makes you wonder what voice other players are having in all of this. Is there *any* consultation occuring between the NFLPA* leadership and the rank and file whom they represent? Or is this a virtual dictatorship where De Smith basically does as he likes, while attending a few token communication meetings with a handful of player reps?

1. Because you are a ‘STAR”, and thence well paid and, by extension, wealthy, does that somehow make your opinion more worthy of consideration than a less well known and lower paid person? Or, because Brady, Brees, Manning (here comes the race card) have opinions that matter more because they are white and the majority of players speaking out are black? In that case, the owners opinions are worth far more than a petty millionaire due to their wealth and high profile. (race doesn’t matter to me in any case, just used it for purposes of eliciting a response to my questions..sorry if it is offensive to anyone except portishead)

2. What player reps are you talking about? There is no union, hence, no player reps. Or, are you in fact saying that there is still a union, just not being called one legally and publicly, and the de-certiification was in fact a sham and simply for the purpose of litigating instead of negotiating?

When you have 1600 members (whether its the NFLPA, your local Tea Party group, or a youth soccer league) you inevitably will find yourself having to deal with a few fringe characters. The only way I would pay any attention to what a player said about the owner imposed lock out was if that player was 1) a star of Tom Brady level or 2) a player rep.

Anything else is just noise…

Fire DeMoron and get someone who has the player’s best interests in mind instead of their own grandstanding agenda and the deal will get done quickly.

I wonder how many players put this in the hands of De Smith at the end of the season and then tuned it all out. Now, that the football itch has started, it will be interesting to see if more players start pushing to get a deal done.
