Ray Edwards books another boxing match

Ray Edwards AP

Vikings defensive end Ray Edwards says he’d rather be a boxer than a player for the Vikings, so it’s no surprise that he’s planning to box again.

Edwards, who won his pro boxing debut last month, will fight Larry Butler on June 24, the Star Tribune reports.

Butler is, like Edwards, 1-0 in his boxing career — he won his own boxing debut on the same fight card on which Edwards won his debut.

Just as in his first match, Edwards will be fighting a much smaller opponent: Butler weighs 216 pounds, 42 pounds less than Edwards.

I think we would all rather see him boxing than playing for the NFL too, then don’t watch boxing.

42 lbs, gee that sounds really fair. I say bring Iron Mike out of retirement! I would totally pay $75 pay per view to watch Iron Mike bite Edwards ear off!!!!!!!!

And if he wins this fight, his promoter has his next scheduled opponent …. Sister Mary Catherine from St.Paul’s Parish….

Considering his last opponent was 1 ft shorter than him, with less reach, this seems about right. I’d like to see someone knock this guy’s block off. If he put 1/2 the effort he’s putting into boxing, into his NFL career, he could have actually had a shot at the single season sack record. But instead, he ran his mouth, and was consistently beat while the entire REST of the D-line was double teamed, leaving him on an island.

Ray, enjoy your boxing carrer, because you will make millions fighting 3rd rank club fighters. But just wait until you have to fight a real pro boxer – getting you ass kicked

Is it true he imagines his opponents as Brett Favre during the match?

Part of me wants to make a crack about Packer fans imagining their hookers are Favre, but…. Nah…..
