Some cold water thrown on the Plaxico Burress-to-Eagles rumors

P. Burress2

Once the Plaxic0 Burress-to-Philadelphia chatter picked up, we suppose this was inevitable. It’s the Plaxico-to-Philly backlash.

Jeff McLane of the Philadelphia Inquirer says all of the talk about the Eagles interest is coming from Plaxico’s side, not the Eagles. “Trust me on this,” McLane wrote.

Furthermore, McLane raises a terrific point about whether Burress makes sense for the Eagles. (And by “terrific point,” we mean he said something we agree with.)

The Eagles have deep speed at wide receiver in DeSean Jackson and Jeremy Maclin. They have a good slot receiver (Jason Avant) and a promising No. 4 wideout with size (Riley Cooper.) More importantly, they have more pressing needs.

Does Burress want to win or does he want to start? Because there doesn’t appear to be a starting job or a starter’s contract possible in Philadelphia. A place like St. Louis or Washington makes a lot more sense.

Unless truly no one wants the guy, Burress’ earning potential figures to be better somewhere other than Philadelphia.
