When Peyton Manning underwent his second neck-related surgery in as many offseasons in May, the Colts and Manning took great pains to make the procedure sound like a minor affair that was of little concern.
Archie Manning spoke more frankly about the subject Monday, as fathers tend to do.
“It’s just been 10 days,” Archie told the Associated Press at Jim Kelly’s charity golf tournament. “He’s not where he wants to be. It’s just something that came up and had to be done, so hopefully it’ll work out.”
So what does “he’s not where he wants to be mean” exactly?
We figured Archie was saying his son was frustrated to be recovering again, but Michael Marot of the Associated Press writes that Peyton’s recovery isn’t “going as quickly” as hoped. Archie Manning still believes Peyton should be ready for the season. The original timetable provided by the Colts said Manning would be ready 6-8 weeks after the surgery.
Manning’s neck will remain something to watch, but it will be tough to get a lot of information on the matter, even if the lockout ends.
Peyton probably already wishes his dad didn’t say so much.
