Lions are PFT Planet’s choice for Hard Knocks

Matthew Stafford AP

Sure, the Detroit Lions already have declined an invitation to appear on this season’s Hard Knocks, if there is a Hard Knocks this season.  And if there is a season.

But it doesn’t matter.  We put the matter to a division-by-division vote, and then we pitted the divisions against each other by conference.

In the end, it came down to the Lions and the Raiders.  Though we gave Raider Nation every opportunity to close the gap (because they haven’t already said “no”), the gap continued to grow.

So we’re officially calling it.  The Lions are your choice for Hard Knocks.  Unless they change their mind, you’ll be able to see players like Matthew Stafford trying to fend off giant mutant peas in still images only.

And now we’ll look for some other way to fill space while the lockout continues.

PFT, please stop trying to corrupt the good thing going on that the Lions have right now.

    They don’t need this.

  4. beastofeden says: Jun 6, 2011 11:46 PM

    0-16.

All you chumps out there trying to get on the Detroit cowardly Lions fanwaggon need to give it a rest.
They aren’t going to playoffs for the next 3-6 years.
Matthew Stafford will never live up to the 1st overall pick.

Besides Jim Shwratz, Mega, and Lou Delmas this squad is overrated for no reason at all.

I’m a raiders fan but I root for teams like the lions when we aren’t playing them. I just don’t understand though how everybody is sayin how they are going to become a contender next year while the very same people are saying the raiders are awful and have no shot at contention. Especially considering the division the lions play in. Packers win the superbowl bears make it to nfc championship Vikings window has probably closed but I bet they win 6-10 games next year. But everybody is ready to give them the nfc north crown and give the number 1 overall pick to the raiders next year. Seriously somebody clue me in???

  8. keeponhating says: Jun 7, 2011 12:15 AM

I’m not bashing the lions I honestly would love for them to win their division. I’m just sayin if they’re contenders then so are the raiders

it’s funny when losers like beastofeden leave messages like that, but never claim who their team is!!

tomorrow morning when you wake up on the couch in your mom’s basement, you can get online and knock someone else’s team!

Matt Millen still feels that he had the Lions on the right tract….he also feels that just because he can not see his toes……

    ^^ Ignore the hater.

Megatron made it to the Pro Bowl this past year with a 2nd string and 3rd string QB throwing the ball to him all season. Delmas was the replacement FS for the probowl. Stefan Logan was Hester’s replacement on kick return. Suh 10.5 sacks this season 2011 Pro Bowl starter. John Welding pro bowl special teams replacement and Brandon Pettigrew 73 receptions this year 3rd among tightends in receptions. And they beat the Packers this past season with Drew Stanton. Anyways Stafford isn’t a bust it’s been 2 season already and in the games he has played in he has shown that he has more talented and more potential then Sanchez Freeman

  15. doob187 says: Jun 7, 2011 1:15 AM

^^ He’s right Miami went 1-15 and then they didn’t see the playoffs til like the very next season so yeah the Lions are certainly a lost cause you fanwaggoners! lol beastofburden is the only chump in the room and had the audacity to give that sorry ass statement a thumbs up.

  16. doob187 says: Jun 7, 2011 1:17 AM

…and Miami did it with Chad “unbreakable” Pennington. Stafford is a great QB, his only problem is he can’t stay healthy.

I love guys that dont watch the Lions that try to say how good they are. Stafford is a special talent he has the swag and the physical ability to play the position very well. Obviously I’ll beat the dead horse by saying he just needs to stay healthy.

    Overrated?

Not sure… maybe best dline in football you didnt mention that. Best tight end duo maybe even trio with blocking tight end will heller. Jahvid was electric before toe injuries (scored the first 5 tds of the season i think) leshoure comes in as a change of pace perfect compliment. Speed with titus young perfect compliment to megatrons all around ability and nate burlesons slot skills. Basically one of the most equipped offenses in the league.

Best dline= great free agent possibilities in the back 7 anyone would want to play behind that especially knowing the offense can put up points.

Everything is rollin for them you just seem like a bitter bears fan that is watching his team age and jealous of the fan base following arguably the best young team in football (tb also a consideration)

Haha, Raider Haters. Love you guys!

  20. woodyg says: Jun 7, 2011 4:39 AM

‘Hard Knocks’ and a 6-10 record will make the Lions famous once again …..

They are and always will be the ‘Paper Lions’ ……

“…you’ll be able to see players like Matthew Stafford trying to fend off giant mutant peas in still images only.”

Seconds later, Stafford went down with an undisclosed shoulder injury. :-D

  22. agelardi says: Jun 7, 2011 7:00 AM

The Raiders would be infinitely more entertaining, especially with appearances by Al Davis every week.

  23. dickroy says: Jun 7, 2011 8:12 AM

You see, nobody cares anything about the Raiders.

  24. spooner97 says: Jun 7, 2011 9:00 AM

Make all the jokes you want, but those Mutant Peas are a real problem in Michigan.

  25. suhnami says: Jun 7, 2011 9:06 AM

I love all the hate for my lions hahaha if any fan from any other team can say they honestly look forward to playing the lions in 2011 then they’re fools…REGARDLESS of whether stafford can go or not.

Schwartz and mayhew are putting together a MEAN team on defense and absolutely explosive team on offense. Are they going to make the playoffs next season?? who knows, they play in arguably the toughest division in football. Are they going to bring it for 4 quarters and inflict as much pain as physically possible?? MOST DEFINITELY

I hope stafford can stay healthy because ANYONE who watches the kid knows he has all-pro skills…physically as well as his intangibles. We all should remember his surgery was near identical to that of 2 former “injury concern” QB’s in Drew Brees and Sam Bradford…If he keeps it together for all 16 the lions will be adding another member to the pro bowl in 2011

  26. comeonnowguys says: Jun 7, 2011 10:09 AM

    @suhnami

“I hope stafford can stay healthy because ANYONE who watches the kid knows he has all-pro skills”

I’m not sure people are doubting his skills or potential as much as they are doubting he can even glance at an opposing defensive lineman without a shoulder spontaneously dislocating.

  27. chuckyd317 says: Jun 7, 2011 10:35 AM

Apparently HBO hasn’t gotten the hint that no team wants to be on their crap program…. P.S. They are in the middle of a lock out… we want to watch minicamps not stiched together garbage they call player organized activites…

0-16 was 3 years ago moron.

I love how you start your comment with 0-16 and then call the team overrated.

Give it a rest? The Lions haven’t been anything to talk about for ten years. Now we have an improving young team and you want us to give it a rest? Screw you.

Not going to the playoffs for 3-6 years? I think your wrong, but hey you are allowed your opinion.

Matthew Stafford will never live up to the #1 pick?
You may be right, but oh wait a minute… We beat the eventual Super bowl champion with our 3rd string QB! If you want to talk about overrated, there is your team.

    So beastofeden,
I would like to sum up my comment by saying, your mother abuses donkeys you feeble minded piglet. May you mess yourself in public.

HK should be on a permanent rotation between the Raiders, the Redskins and the Jets. We need some laughs in our lives…

Ya, that’s why they finished 2nd overall in the polls, “dick”.

“We beat the eventual Super bowl champion with our 3rd string QB! If you want to talk about overrated, there is your team.”

You did not seriously just call the Packers overrated–did you? Did I miss a /sarcasm somewhere in there?

You’re calling what was a classic 7-3 crapfest (in which the other teams insanely-better-than-your-#1 QB was injured) a referendum on the eventual Super Bowl Champs?

Not a fan, but if you really think that the Packers are overrated and the Lions hype is totally legit, then I’d like a swig of some of that Honolulu Blue Kool-Aid.

This has to be up there with “If it wasn’t for my horse, I wouldn’t have spent that year in college.”
