Terrence Cody promises he’ll report in shape

If you were making a list of players likely to gain weight and get out of shape during the lockout, Ravens defensive tackle Terrence Cody would have to be near the top of it. At last year’s Senior Bowl, Cody tipped the scales at 370 pounds, and after Baltimore drafted him, he failed his first conditioning test at training camp.

But there’s good news for Ravens fans: Cody recently attended a charity softball game in the Baltimore area, and he showed up looking slim and saying he’ll be in good shape whenever the lockout ends.

“I feel like I’m in pretty good shape. I’ve been training twice a day, and the workouts get harder each week,” Cody said, per John Eisenberg of CSNbaltimore.com. “That’s the biggest thing I’m working on, weight and conditioning.”

Cody wouldn’t say exactly how much he weighs, just that he’s in good shape.

“I haven’t checked myself,” Cody said. I’m waiting for the season to start so everyone can find out.”

Ravens General Manager Ozzie Newsome recently said Cody would have a breakout season in 2011. Cody said that knowing the team is counting on him is part of what makes him so committed to his conditioning.

“I heard about that,” Cody said. “A couple of people told me about that. I use it as motivation to keep working hard.”
