I must confess I get really angry when people hate on Roger Goodell. He is a good commissioner, and he will help lead the way to a new CBA in the next few days, I hope. (well, by June 20, a new CBA would be a really awesome birthday gift:)

Anyway, I am an amateur NFL historian and if anyone pays attention to my archives, Goodell will be lionized as a solid commissioner.

At least he wants to do the right thing so he should be applauded for that.

There were lots of dirty things going on in the Paul Tagliabue era, including that 11th hour CBA which got us into this mess.

Give Goodell a chance, he's a good man!

I'm not sure why some of you keep lashing out at Goodell and say he should be fired, like that would solve something. He is not the problem here people. He is paid by the owners to act on their behalf, he is doing what he is paid to do. Firing him solves nothing as it is the will of the owners that is forming that side of the battle.

The players lash out at him because they are afraid to lash out at their ownership for fear of retribution once this thing gets settled. It's chickenbleep posturing and nothing more.

The reason this thing is where it is, is because De Smith convinced the players that litigation was the way to go, which it wasn't. De Smith may be a good lawyer I don't know, but he's not a skilled negotiator and that is the biggest problem in this stalemate. You've got to have people that want to get a deal done, and when the objective by one side is to force a deal through litigation, it's counterproductive and leads to where we are now.

The best part of this story is the fact there are fewer lawyers involved. That is the way it should have been from day one. A deal cannot be forced through the court system; it has to be collectively bargained between the two parties. Maybe they are finally wising up to that.

All the posters who are complaining that these lockout stories aren't "real news" or "real progress" should just save themselves the heartache and not follow the lockout until July.

The lawyers are being billed for the time, and while it's admittedly fun and easy to make fun of the lawyers through all this, everyone involved realizes that real, substantial talks needed to happen between the owners and players. Once they have a solid framework to build around is when the lawyers come in and do their jobs to formalize everything.

Every day these talks continue is good news and the progression we need to see a deal done in time for the start of training camp.

Thank god, Robert Kraft, & Roger Goodell for having the common sense to know..... The lawyers could ruin a wet dream if they made $1 off it..... Why do they care if they ruin the game of football? Hell, Batterman was in on the ruining of the NHL, so you know he don't care. And Kessler, don't get me started on the Devil in a suit. He & De Smith are the two biggest bums in the whole process. So, getting 3/4 of the problems out of the room could & should very well settle the issue, hopefully by the weekend. I want to start hearing who has a visit with the Browns, Lions, Packers, Steelers, etc..... Not who is visiting the courthouse through legal ignorance!

The fact is, the NFL is a deadline league. Late June is a very big point. If they can get a deal done by then, they'll get full camps and a decent amount of time for free agency. Once it gets into July, camps will get cut short, and they may lose a preseason game or 2. Hopefully they're feeling a sense of urgency.

Still more blather about nothing.

The only thing that matters right now is how long it takes the 8th circuit to rule. Despite the judge's "warning" that neither side would like the ruling, these guys have had this plan in place for too long to change course now.

Once they rule, whichever side loses will adjust it's position and the deal will get done.

Of course, fellas, if you want to go ahead and settle it now to prove me wrong, feel free. :-)
