Peter King is convinced Matt Hasselbeck will leave Seattle

The longer the lockout drags on, the more obvious Matt Hasselbeck’s value to the Seahawks appears. He looks to be in control of the team’s recent practice sessions and weight program.

Doug Farrar of Sportspress Northwest notes that Hasselbeck “handed out workout sheets for position groups and barked out plays for the seven-on-seven drills” during a session last Friday. Hasselbeck deflected credit to teammate Justin Forsett, but his leadership after a decade with the organization seems pretty obvious.

Despite all that, Peter King of SI.com is convinced Hasselbeck will be playing elsewhere next season. In a series of tweets after midnight Wednesday morning -- someone must have had a big a Starbucks day -- King predicted that Charlie Whitehurst would be the team’s Week One sarting quarterback.

Asked to predict where Hasselbeck would land, King listed the Cardinals, Titans, Dolphins and Vikings in that order. (Arizona would be interesting . . . since Hasselbeck has Seattle’s playbook.)

We usually don’t post Twitter predictions; King isn’t “reporting” anything. But we know enough to know there’s something behind the tweets. It’s rather notable King is so convinced Hasselbeck will be playing elsewhere next year, when conventional wisdom lately seems to be the opposite.
