Jaguars look like unlikely match for Plaxico Burress

We’ve talked a lot about the possible destinations for Plaxico Burress in the last week. Jacksonville is a team that could use some size and help at receiver, but Gene Frenette of the Florida Times-Union doesn’t think it’s a match.

“The litmus test when assessing what the Jaguars will do under G.M. Gene Smith should be this: If you think for a second that the character portion of a player’s resume might raise a concern, then the Jaguars likely won’t pursue him,” Frenette writes. “Smith is allergic to players with character issues, especially 30-somethings.”

Hard to argue with that. Speculation for Burress continues to center around the Rams and Eagles. After initial reports in Philly the Eagles weren’t interested, some reports there have changed their tune.

We suspect Burress will have to wait a little while after the lockout ends before finding a deal. There are just too many younger, productive players with fewer question marks ahead of him in line.
