Colts hire Dennis Polian

Bill Polian, Chris Polian AP

The Indianapolis Colts have another Polian on the staff.

Dennis Polian, the son of Colts President Bill Polian and brother of General Manager Chris Polian, has been hired as the club’s director of football administration. Polian’s previous job was the assistant to the head coach of the Vikings.

Polian has also worked at the NCAA and CFL level, and his brother said his previous work as director of football operations at Tulane University when Hurricane Katrina hit showed how qualified he is for the Colts job.

“It’s a job we pieced through a couple different offices, but it’s something we’re going to have a dedicated person for moving forward,” Chris Polian said, per the Indianapolis Star. “With what he’s been through having to manage the Tulane situation through Katrina, I know he’s going to be able to handle what we throw at him.”

If not, he’ll have his dad and his brother to answer to.

Nepotism. If they could hire sister Polian they would…she’s probably on the payroll in some capacity.

You can’t spell nepotism without the NFL (well maybe without the F & L, ……you get my point). Seriously like this is the first management staff that has hired every breathing relative within 100 miles of the front office. The coaches and owners also hire every of-age member of the family.

Are they going to rename the team “The Polians” now?

  4. haroldballsagna says: Jun 14, 2011 8:14 AM

wow…. and father Polian built teams that went 1-5 in championship games, can’t wait to see what kind of roster his sons with limited experience create

But don’t open those books to see if these qualified, ultra talented relatives are getting salaries above and beyond what non-relatives are getting. Seriously, nepotism is demonstrating the lowest form of confidence in your own child.

And any “child” who relies on family to get ahead really doesn’t have what it takes to get ahead without mommy and daddy.

We are turning into a caste society and people are cheering it…

I wonder who he used as references.

Nepotism? What are you guys talking about? If the guy was 32 and had lived at home all his life and never held any job, let alone a football job (visualize Spaulding from Caddy Shack) I would join you in crying nepotism!

But c’mon, he’s been at Tulane, the Minnesota Vikings and other NFL and CFL jobs so it’s not like he hasn’t had any experience to do this. There’s nothing wrong with hiring your relatives if they can do the job … I bet you guys are also ‘Lebron haters, too!’ :)

When your brother is having to defend your hiring that is normally bad.

Next if he did such great job at Tulane ,then why didn’t they try to keep him at Tulane? Correct me if I’m wrong but isn’t the assitant to a NFL head coach kind of the like the “coffee getter” ?

Because there is ABSOLUTELY NO NEPOTISM in any other industry. Finance, construction, manufacturing. None of these ever experience a bit of nepotism.

Grow up, it’s the way of the world.

“Grow up, it’s the way of the world.”

Right. Because I criticize something that is so totally against raising up the best and the brightest instead of granting short cuts to “daddy’s kids”.

And I guess you think higher taxes, higher spending, corruption, murder, and all other sorts of neat things that “are the way of the world” should be OK, too? Next thing you are going to tell me people should start inheriting their titles, like a royalty thing…

Like I said…CHEERING for it and now DEFENDING it.

…and I am the one that is supposed to “grow up”.

It sounds like the State Of Illinois that if you no anybody working for the state there is a great chance anybody in your family, qualified or not will be employed by the State.

Jerry Richardson fired both of his sons. I bet Polian doesn’t do that. Or Schottenheimer. Or Archie Manning.

When you become a billionaire and own your own company and/or team you can hire anyone you want.

That’s my favorite Polian stat EVER. :D

Nepotism is the way things are, that poster is right. Not just nepotism but cronyism. I agree it sucks big time, but that doesn’t mean that the NFL is the only place where it’s rampant. If you think that, you have probably not ever held any sort of job or have been INCREDIBLY fortunate in your career path/company makeup.

It sure is nice to see that the Redskins are not the only team that gets bashed for the nepotism.

Dennis to Chrisissy – “I am going to tell daddy on you”

Dennis was Childress’ asst…. Would not be surprised if Leslie did not need a Polian as an asstistant…. wonder who is the new asst? Now we know why JW was fired (or is it retired?)

Also, I thought there was a hiring freeze during the lockout???? I guess the Colt’s were afraid of missing this opportunity????

Brian is the next Polian to be on payroll.

Whoever thinks either Polian’s are qualified, just because they have been in football…. it has all been favors.

Love to see Chrississy’s eval of some college players….. all by himself . LOL
