Jags owner has “no interest” in Los Angeles

Last week, AEG’s Tim Leiweke mentioned the Jaguars as one of the five teams with which discussions have been held regarding a possible purchase and relocation.

Jaguars owner Wayne Weaver responded on Tuesday.

“I have no interest [in Los Angeles],” Weaver told Vito Stellino of the Florida Times-Union. “I have been consistent in saying I am committed to Jacksonville and have no interest [in moving].”

Of course, this doesn’t completely rule out the possibility of a sale of the franchise to AEG owner Philip Anschutz. But it sounds as if Weaver plans to keep the team.

Still, as mentioned in a recent item regarding the ongoing importance of revenue growth, the next labor deal will make it even more important for each team to make as much money as possible. Scrambling on an annual basis to sell non-premium tickets isn’t enough. Teams will need to siphon as much cash as they can out of the market in which they currently reside, or they’ll be susceptible to landing in a market where enough money will flow.
