Gilyard joins teammates for workouts

Mardy Gilyard AP

Rams receiver Mardy Gilyard, whose absence from Rams player-only workouts earlier this offseason helped to spark phony rumors he asked for a trade, joined his teammates recently for practices in Arizona.

As pointed out by Turf Show Times, Gilyard let his Twitter followers know that he got some work in with his teammates in Arizona. That’s not a sign of a guy that wants out.

Gilyard is being watched closely this offseason because he looked like a promising prospect in the build up to the 2010 draft before getting taken 99th by the Rams.

After being a non-factor as a rookie, Gilyard could struggle just to make the Rams roster this year at a crowded position.

Rams had a roster full of average to mediocre receivers, then they went out and drafted three more in their first four picks. What was with that? All they end up doing is supplying other teams with depth at the position when it comes to cutdown time.

Average to mediocre? Isn’t that the same thing?

Gilyard was a project coming out of college and he continues to be a project. He’s the most raw receiver on the Rams roster and when he’s released, because he will be released even though I got em to a 93 overall on Madden 11, he’ll find his way onto another roster somewhere and he’ll be nothing more than a depth player for the next couple of years at least. He’s THAT raw. Not to mention, he forgot how to catch the ball.

    D. Curry will be in the mix as well. He has great upside.

D curry will get no mix

The receivers be Avery, Clayton, Alexander, Amendola, Pettis, Salas.
    - On the fringe would either be Gibson or Gilyard

Itll get real tight if they sign a free agent
