“I’ll tell you why you aren’t getting a ring, Josh Bell.

You were put on I.R. before mini camps even started and you didn’t have a chance in hell of making the team. You were a last month addition to the team in 2009 because of multiple injuries.

In short, because you didn’t earn one. Consider yourself lucky you got paid for a year of sideline passes to the Super Bowl Champions season.

If anyone recognizes the name “Josh Bell”, it’s because he gave up a touchdown to Pittsburgh in 2009 from 40 yards out as time expired to cost Green Bay the game.”

I agree. Josh Bell was placed on I.R. before he played in any games. And to make things more interesting, any site listing the Packer rosters shows that Bell doesn’t even have a number.

However, while I do think he isn’t really deserving of one, everyone that was on the team when the Packers won the Super Bowl deserve a ring even if they didn’t play at all.

I think the Vikings players should get Packer SuperBowl rings too. By getting their asses handed to them twice by the Packers last year, they contributed more than this guy by enabling the Packers to get to the post-season. The rest is history. What did this guy do?

The writers here are pretty anti-Packers… Bell didn’t do anything for the team and was basically cut except for a technicality. Get over the story, find some real news and work through the jealousy.

He was’t cut because NFL rules prohibit a team from cutting a player on IR. They offered him a settlement so they COULD cut him. He declined it, so there was nothing they could do about it. His being on the roster was due to a technicality, not because they wanted him.

To all the haters saying GB has no class get a clue you jealous fools.
They could have simply cut him before preseason started & pay the arbitrated injury settlement that was more than his salary for the year & be done with him which would have been a cold classless move.
But they gave Bell the option to take a settlement OR go on GB’s IR for the season , get full pay for the year, use our facilities, trainers, doctors, etc… Bell chose IR to get his full pay & perks. He had no chance at making the roster. How is that classless???

They actually tried to release him and offer an injury settlement in the preseason, but he is allowed to reject the settlement and stay on IR which he opted to do.

Rosenthal, you should update the article to include the bit about the Packers offering Bell an injury settlement, essentially dropping him from the roster before preseason even started. Since the NFL rules prohibit the cutting of an IR player, Bell was only on the team due to a technicality. Otherwise he never would have been on the roster and we wouldn’t even be having this discussion.

I believe there’s more to this story. He’s been promoting parties and throwing it out there as “Josh Bell of the world champion Green Bay Packers”
Maybe they were like screw you..you haven’t played a down and you are profiting off of others accomplishments.

Look it up Mike…Bob and Dan on the Ticket in Dallas did a segment of Josh Bell and his parties a couple of months ago. Based on Popkey’s awkward response, this has to be related.

That’s pretty damn classy. Difference between earning a ring and being given one based on a technicality. I’m sure that’s why team have the power to pick who gets rings.

Ha ha ha… Ummm… How do I break it to a guy that thinks he’s so smart? Well, see Bell’s contract isn’t for that much, he was an URFA that the Broncos cut and we picked up.

If you cut a guy on IR you have to pay an injury settlement. Not that big a deal if the guy makes over 1 mil the team doesn’t lose much in the settlement.

But a guy like Bell makes the minimum, so the Pack would lose a lot of money. Keeping him on IR and paying his salary was cheaper than cutting him. Like what’s been mentioned, he was never an active member. This is a freakin’ joke compared to, I dunno – Terry Glen.

Not news PFT, every year teams do this. John Jolly isn’t getting a ring either, are we gonna get a headline on that too? He wasn’t an active member during the 2010 season.

Except if you knew what you were talking about you’d know that someone has to agree to an injury settlement when they are put on the I.R. to be removed from the team (you can’t cut an injured player). Bell opted not to. You tell me why this website lets you post.

Josh Bell was placed on IR on August 10. That’s four days before the Packers first preseason game.

Once placed on IR, you are there for the season. You can’t be put back on the roster, and you can’t be cut. There is very little doubt that, with the emergence of Sam Shields, after Bell was put on IR, the team is just waiting until he can come off of it just so they can release him.

On another note, I’ll bet many of you people saying this was a classless move are some of the same people wondering why Al Harris would want a ring after not playing a single down with the team.

You simply want to berate the Packers for the sake of berating them, without knowing all the facts…plain and simple.

i think if he was on the team he deserves a ring no matter what. and the only reason they kept him around (I,R,) was because they didn’t know what they had in sam shields. yes bell isn’t that great of player, but we don’t know if he will develop. he deserve’s a ring plain and simple. and to all you bashers out there who want to criticize the packers for this, maybe you should spend more time wondering what your team is doing to win a ring.

I’m a Packer fan, and I wish I knew all the circumstances regarding to give or not to give the ring. I very much doubt it was an “Has he earned it issue?”, but rather other circumstances that would be involved. That being said, if it’s a “earned it” issue, I couldn’t disagree more. I actually think Josh Bell had the potential to make the team this year, especially with the hot water Underwood was in at the beginning of the year. When he filled in, I thought he did a admirable job as basically an off the street guy, to the nickle back for the last 4 games. He potentially could’ve made the team as a 5th corner over Pat Lee or Underwood this past year. I will hope, and believe, this is not an on-the-field performance decision, and rather that there is other information that hasn’t been made public.
