NFL looks into porn event ad using NFL players

Eric Berry AP

Five NFL players were featured in a recent advertisement for an Exxxotica Expo 2011 party in Miami last month.  The problem: They were in uniform.

“The NFL office works on behalf of the clubs to protect their intellectual property rights in matters such as this” NFL spokesman Brian McCarthy told ABC-7 in Chicago, who broke the story.

The players in the ad who were said to be “hosts” of the party: Chiefs cornerback Brandon Flowers, Bears safety Major Wright, Chiefs safety Eric Berry, Texans cornerback Kareem Jackson, and Raiders wideout Jacoby Ford.  (Here’s the ad.)

“Our legal team is reviewing the ad. In general, companies not affiliated with the NFL or its clubs may not depict a player in his uniform” said McCarthy.

The Bears said they are “troubled” by Wright’s usage and believe it’s an inappropriate use of their logo, so they alerted the league about it.  They pointed out that sometimes players are unaware their images are used in such events, but ABC-7 calls Wright a “fixture” of the Miami party scene.  Rookies like Daniel Thomas and Corey Liuget were also in the ad.

The event was billed as the official launch party for the Expo, which will take place in the Chicago area in July. It’s said to be the world’s largest gathering of porn stars in the world.

We know the NFL is losing advertisers because of the lockout, so perhaps they should embrace this as an opportunity.

What’s more successful (and American) than football and porn?

I’m surprised Chris Cooley, Visanthe Shiancoe or Brett Favre weren’t involved in this… seems right up their alley.

If the league won’t let current players or coaches promote alcohol, they for sure want them far away from porn.

whats the problem? they both do business the same way….as soon as your forty time gets too slow or your boobs start to sag, your history.

So, are the players in trouble? Is this just a way to bash a few players or what? I mean, this article leads you to believe these players posed in their uniforms for this ad…they didn’t! Anyone could have used the pics that were used, pics of these guys playing in a game…This is ridiculous, and bashing these guys saying they have no class is just plain ignorant!

thats pathetic, I love women & sex, but to do the devils work in your football uniform is whack…

I’m on that Roger Staubach tip – love sex, but with 1 woman… not all up in with the hoochies gettin STDs – what about classy women?

why would you take the PUREST THING IN YOUR LIFE THE GAME OF FOOTBALL & COMBINE IT WITH ANYTHING LIKE PORN….

as someone who lives & dies with Al Davis & the Raiders I am VERY disappointed in Jacoby Ford…

you want to be a top NFL WR? – stay outta the porn ads. You should be in Atlanta with Jason Campbell….

dont get cised off your rookie year Jacoby – no 1 player is bigger then the Raiders organization & you can be replaced…

Randy Moss part 2, T.O., Steve Smith, OchoCinco, Plax, etc— lotta good WR’s out there to take your spot.

I know that is NOT going to happen, but I’m just saying…really jacoby, REALLY?

The way the headline reads, I thought the NFL
    was considering a business opportunity.

I would like to take every person on here who has or is going to put these guys down, and tell them they will be invited to the next porn party…lets see how many guys turn it down! lol

They’re looking into it. Then looking further into it, and then…..well maybe they might have to look at it more closely. Or in a different light, or…..

    The NFL is stupid.

If anything, this will INCREASE their revenue.

Hell, Jerry Jones has pole dancers at Cowboys Stadium, does he not?

The NFL is just a stupid, stupid organization. They should be embracing PORN .

So the kickoff party was in Miami a month ago, but the actual event is in Chicago next month? Quite a bit of lag and distance between the two to be “official”.

I have a bigger problem with your composition of this piece.

“It’s said to be the world’s largest gathering of porn stars in the world.”

The world’s largest in the world?

    Come on man!

Note that the pictures are stock photos and the players did not show up in their uniforms to pose for them.

As a Texans fan, I’m pretty sure Kareem “Play off the receiver by 10 yards every frickin’ play” Jackson will get a stern talkin’ to by Big Bob McNair. And maybe he’s just gettin’ that second career ready since cornerback jus’ ain’t workin’ out…….

Wow. That is one of the most idiotic things ever posted on this site.

I remember when I was 8 when my dad took me to my first Pro Football game. I have been a fan ever since and football on Sundays is something we have shared for a long time. If porn was part of the equation, it would never have happened.

The NFL will cease being a tradition in my household should they take Greg’s pathetic advice.

I don’t know who holds the rights to those photos but if it’s the player, the NFL has no right to complain. Here’s an idea… end the lockout and maybe the players wouldnt need the money!

Who’s jealous of Brandon Flowers, Major Wright, Eric Berry, Kareem Jackson, and Jacoby Ford? This guy.

  21. bucks12965 says: Jun 15, 2011 11:26 AM

Hey Rosenthal, why does the guy being a regular on the Miami party scene in any way suggest he knew they were going to use his image in his NFL uniform?

The great thing about the porn industry: if the actors go on strike, they can always find someone else to fill in the holes *ba dum ch*

It’s not fair. Those speedy defensive backs and wideouts get all the crack addicted, std ridden, bleached blond, tattooed, multiple body pierced, 20 year olds who look 40. Kings of South Beach.

To be fair, Shiancoe’s only crime was an ill advised camera angle.

Bottom line, this is the deal…these cats are not only young in the game…but just plain young! It aint good look, being that they influence every rec team and high school team in the country….So you CANT intertwine that crap and the purest game of shear will on the planet. They didnt POSE for the pics, so find the moron who photo shopped them, and blast him one in the pocket!!! As far as the players …. dont feed your need for XXX in your uniform, only in the privacy of your own home (or hers)…lesson learned ~ keep it movin!

Unreal how stupid these guys and their agent’s are. Should know by now after watching sports their whole lives you cannot duplicate images without written consent. Agents are ‘supposed’ to know what their clients are doing but I guess it only counts when it’s money out of their pockets. Bad enough it was in uniform but a porn extravaganza, breach of protected property rights is one thing, this just piles on as stupid.
