The Eagles win the award for most pent-up free agent spending desire during the lockout. If they don’t take a cold shower before free agency starts, they may wind up throwing multi-year contracts at guys like Hank Baskett.
If Philly sounds the most eager to spend, the Jaguars aren’t far behind. They have repeatedly said they will have to address big defensive needs when the lockout ends. Jack Del Rio indicated Wednesday in a session with fans that owner Wayne Weaver wants to be aggressive.
“Wayne made very clear he is going to be a player going into the free-agent market,” Del Rio said, via the Florida Times-Union.
The team wants to build through the draft but . . . “We also believe until we have established ourselves, we’re going have to use free agency to fill some holes,” Del Rio said.
The team has huge needs at safety, and could use help at linebacker. Defensive line depth wouldn’t hurt.
While the team sounds likely to spend Weaver’s money in free agency, Del Rio is gearing up for some new threads to wear on the sidelines. Del Rio told fans he’s thinking about wearing suits on the sideline again, especially with two Monday Night games on the schedule.
It’s a look Del Rio tried a few years back, but dumped faster than Jerry Porter.
