Del Rio ready to spend on free agency, suits

The Eagles win the award for most pent-up free agent spending desire during the lockout.  If they don’t take a cold shower before free agency starts, they may wind up throwing multi-year contracts at guys like Hank Baskett.

If Philly sounds the most eager to spend, the Jaguars aren’t far behind. They have repeatedly said they will have to address big defensive needs when the lockout ends. Jack Del Rio indicated Wednesday in a session with fans that owner Wayne Weaver wants to be aggressive.

“Wayne made very clear he is going to be a player going into the free-agent market,” Del Rio said, via the Florida Times-Union.

The team wants to build through the draft but . . . “We also believe until we have established ourselves, we’re going have to use free agency to fill some holes,” Del Rio said.

The team has huge needs at safety, and could use help at linebacker. Defensive line depth wouldn’t hurt.

While the team sounds likely to spend Weaver’s money in free agency, Del Rio is gearing up for some new threads to wear on the sidelines.  Del Rio told fans he’s thinking about wearing suits on the sideline again, especially with two Monday Night games on the schedule.

It’s a look Del Rio tried a few years back, but dumped faster than Jerry Porter.

Yeah, but is anything you do really ever going to get you past 7-9, 8-8, 9-7? Nope…

I like the suit-deal on the sidelines… It was him and Nolan that did it a few years back

I thought the NFL 86’d the idea of coaches wearing suits because of their deals with Reebok. I remember both Del Rio and Nolan trying to do this a couple years back, but the league said no. Then later allowing them to wear suits for a couple games.

I like the Suit…Stay Classy Del-Rio…Because theres nothing like getting your A$$ handed to you while looking good.

Jack wearing a suit because every game he goes out to coach this season, is a job interview.

Del Rio saw Gabbert at the draft and liked the look.

If the salary floor will be $20M or so higher than last year due to the CBA then yes, Jax will be in spending mode. KC as well, I think they were right at the floor last year.

You have a very short memory. I advise you go to google.

Don’t be ignorant, the Jaguars are the team nobody wants to play.

I’m fine with suits as long a the coaches don’t use Jersey shore amounts of hair gel like some basketball coaches do.

@tmac48 you gotta be joking with that statement . Who fears the Jags ? I’d schedule them for all 16 games if I could .

I miss coaches wearing suits on the sideline. I hate the way coaches today dress like rap stars. As if they’re gonna jump into pre-game warmups. You know they’re not.

Del Rio has done more with less than alot of coaches could have. Look at what Shack Harris did in his time as GM of the Jags and explain how Del Rio led the team to the playoffs twice.

At least he looks good, as he continually gets his ass kicked by a homeless man in a frayed hooded sweatshirt.

Del Rio is going to need more than a suit and a high priced Safety to beat Baltimore on Monday night..

In fact, why don’t you guys sign Dawan Landry our Safety and I know we will shred you like swiss cheese on the back end….

Well, since Jacksonville Jaguars lead in the series against the Ravens 9-7 you’ll need to win that Monday night game plus one more just to be .500 against us. Keep yapping.

Coach – Why don’t you dress up with your jersey that you wore when your played the game?

So Weaver’s finally ready to open his deep pockets and get free agents. I’m sure Gene Smith will do a much better job than former GM Shack Harris. Let’s not make this a rerun of the Jerry Porter and Drayton Florence show. Thanks Shack.

Jacky my boy, you can wear a suit, you can wear a speedo, hell you can be butterball naked (bad visual) for all I care. Just win the division and make some noise in the playoffs.

I think the suits he wore were made by Reebok.
