Hall of Fame quarterback Joe Montana was forced to cancel an appearance before the Santa Clara City Council last Tuesday after a vehicular accident.

Montana’s injuries weren’t serious, but he did suffer a black eye and hurt leg, according to Matthew Barrows of the Sacramento Bee.

“From what I heard,” said Santa Clara Mayor Jamie Matthews, “he has a black eye and a cut that needed some stitches. He may have also hurt his leg, and they weren’t sure if it was fractured or not.”

Barrows clarifies that Montana’s injuries were sustained when he took a tumble off an ATV last weekend near his ranch in Calistoga.

Montana’s appearance has been rescheduled for July 12.
