Giants’ Steve Smith: Eagles’ trophy case is empty

Chicago Bears v New York Giants Getty Images

Giants receiver Steve Smith is passing the time during the lockout by having fun with Photoshop.

After Smith’s teammate Osi Umenyiora got into a war of words with LeSean McCoy of the Eagles, Smith decided he wanted in on the fun. And he did it by posting a picture on his YFrog account showing himself, Eli Manning and Tom Coughlin celebrating the Giants’ Super Bowl XLII victory, and placing within that photo a photo of an empty Eagles trophy case.

In other words, Smith wants to remind everyone that the Giants have won a Vince Lombardi Trophy (actually three of them) and the Eagles haven’t.

NFL Network had a lengthy discussion of Smith’s statement, and Smith also posted a video on Facebook in which he discussed his general philosophy toward how people react to his comments.

“People aren’t going to like everything you say, you’re going to have a lot of guys that hate, and there’s going to be a lot of people that like what you say,” Smith says in the video.

In this case, Eagles fans are going to hate what Smith said. Giants fans will love it.

I blame the lockout. Players have more time to say stupid stuff and get arrested.

really? you can’t come up with anything better then no superbowl win? Jesus man, try a little harder. Its not like we haven’t heard that for the past 45 years.

  4. hateradeonrocks says: Jun 21, 2011 11:56 AM

it’s fine that giants players want to talk but it’s obvious now that the eagles are in their heads and the giants better hope the eagles don’t win a SB because they clearly can’t beat the birds.

  5. laeagle says: Jun 21, 2011 11:57 AM

Last check there were 3 in the case. They’re old as hell but there are still 3 championships in there. Giants, Skins, and Freedom-hating Cowgirls fans love to ignore that simple truth.

  6. seanb20124 says: Jun 21, 2011 11:57 AM

    League championships (3)
    NFL Championships (3)
    1948, 1949, 1960

  7. dexterismyhero says: Jun 21, 2011 11:58 AM

61 NFL Championship. He prolly doesn’t even know that, but nonetheless it will rile the Eagle fans. But what doesn’t?

  8. CKL says: Jun 21, 2011 11:59 AM

I hate most of this childish trash talk, but that said I admit I burst into laughter when I saw Smith’s photoshop last night on NFLN. Probably laughed a little because that type of thing was so “fanlike”.

  9. tchurch316 says: Jun 21, 2011 11:59 AM

Maybe he should focus on getting back in the playoffs before talking.

  10. hunternuts says: Jun 21, 2011 11:59 AM

He should stick to football, his Photoshop skills are terrible

  11. markcycy says: Jun 21, 2011 12:01 PM

I hate to agree with a giant but the truth of the matter is until reid is gone the case remains empty.

Don’t give me the championships I want a super bowl

  12. jakek2 says: Jun 21, 2011 12:02 PM

I’m a Giant fan and couldn’t be happier that the NFC East has 11 Lombardis none of which have been held skyward by a member of the Eagles. That said, its about time the Giants quit resting on that 2007 and beat the Eagles for once. They haven’t done so since Plax was still on the team. Ridiculous.

  13. drewbu22 says: Jun 21, 2011 12:04 PM

Looks more like a Paint edit then a Photoshop…

If there were 20 in that case, you’d still trade every single one of them for ONE Lombardi.

lol @ bitter Eagles fans. Um, what more argument did anyone need besides the fact that the Eagles haven’t won a Super Bowl? It is indisputable, is it not?

  16. dbellina says: Jun 21, 2011 12:17 PM

    I don’t have a trophy either. :’(

  17. n2thaizzo says: Jun 21, 2011 12:18 PM

Steve Smiths stats for that year:
    5 games played
    8 receptions
    63 yards
    0 td’s

So basically, he’s celebrating a title the Giants basically won without him… nice job.

  18. pflynn20 says: Jun 21, 2011 12:31 PM

The Super Bowl reference again? Zzzzzzzzzzz. Gee Eagles fans haven’t heard that one before. Think of something new and stop living in the past. Only reason the Giants even sniffed that Super Bowl in 2007 was due to former Eagles coach Steve Spagnuolo. Smith would be the 4th receiver on the Eagles team. Somebody wake me up the Giants beat the Eagles again. Been what 3 years and a 28 point 4th quarter collapse in the final 8 minutes now?

  19. myeaglescantwin says: Jun 21, 2011 12:35 PM

that is the constant burn on us Eagles fans. . & you’re right

although beating them clowns the past 6 times we played the Giants does help a lot

& again, if D mac was healthy in 06′ you wouldnt even have made the playoffs. TRUTH

For your egal fans that can not count
One in the 80′s one in the 90′s and one in the 00,s

The last one was 4 years ago old do not think so
And the only thing that matters in the regular season is that you make it to the playoffs
The playoffs are when it counts

the egals are like a cheap steak smells good when cooking but ends up tasting like crap

Deal with that you sorry ass egal fans your city is a hole your teams all suck and NJ would be a better place if they took down the bridges and your folks stayed off our beaches

We all have the old ones that no longer count.

    You still have NO Lombardi.

However, I’m sure one of the other East teams will let you look (no touch) at theirs.

    ———
n2thiazzo – As an Eagles’ fan, you probably we’re watching a TBS Rocky re-run when the Giants pulled the biggest upset in SB history. If you were watching the SB, you would have known that Smith made the second biggest catch of the game….coverting 3rd and 9 following Tyree’s miracle. Nice try though.

  23. geeeeemen says: Jun 21, 2011 12:42 PM

    @n2thaizzo

But in the playoffs (4 games) he had 14 rec for 152 yards, including 5 for 50 in the SB, 4 of them for 1st downs, the last one being on 3rd and 11 getting out of bounds. Next play: touchdown Plax.

So yea, he helped win the SB. Can’t say that for anyone in Eagles history!

  24. spidey817 says: Jun 21, 2011 12:44 PM

He’s right, though. LeSean has no room to talk. At least the Giants have won a Super Bowl, something Andy Reid isn’t good enough to ever do.

I’m an Eagles fan and I’m already resigned to that fact. Smith’s pic was funny as hell, I hope it gets more airtime and exposure. The Eagles deserve to be a laughingstock.

  25. beastofeden says: Jun 21, 2011 12:45 PM

That case will remain empty as long as MV7 is the QB for the Igg’s

  26. berniemadoffsides says: Jun 21, 2011 12:47 PM

Speaking as a Giants fan, if they improve their roster with some smart moves via free agency (Asomugha?), they could make a serious push for their first Super Bowl win this season. They have some serious weapons on that offense and their defense is always solid. Then again, you can say the same about the Giants, Cowboys, Bears, Packers, Bucs, Saints, and Falcons (Sorry, NFC West!).

I’m not going to say the Eagles aren’t a good team. Let’s face it – they may very well have all of the tools to win it all. I think the only things that can stop them is Andy Reid’s decision-making and Vick’s health over the course of a season. The entire NFC East has a disgusting amount of talent. Put a legit QB on Washington and get them a stud WR and they’ll be contenders, too.

PS: Get healthy, Steve Smith! We need you back!

More genius analysis from big blue. Coming from a guy who’s bragging about living in NJ. A state that has Camden, Newark, Jersey City, Trenton, Asbury Park…..wait I just threw up. Not to mention you’re team plays on a swamp in east rutherford. You are such a tool.

And yes, we count NFL titles just like yankee fans count 27 titles. Even though about 18 of them were before the 60′s and there were 10 teams in the league. Can’t have it both ways….sorry.

A yes, we own the jersey shore just like we own the giants!

  28. rexloveshisfeet says: Jun 21, 2011 12:54 PM

Its so funny how Eagles fans say we have heard this for 45 years. Guess it has not changed for 45 years so why not comment on that because it obviously is apparent you were annoyed by what he said or you would not say anything so Steve Smith I give you two thumbs up.

Eagles are in the heads of the Giants like Tom Coughlin wants Plaxico Burress back this year. Maybe win a title then talk smack. Climb the mountain then tell your story.

Btw, Eli is 0-2 vs Philadelphia in the playoffs, home or away.

Also has the dubious distinction of being the ONLY QB in the 85 year-old history of the New York Football Giants to lose two home games to the SAME team in the same season.

You exemplify all Eagles fans. All that matters to you is lets beat the Giants. Now I would love to beat the Eagles every time we play them, I would love to have a great season every year in and year out. But as a die hard Giant fan I am realist. Sometimes you have it sometimes you do not. The Eagles are Regular Season champions lets hand them off the trophy and send them down to Magic Mountain.

  45. njjeff73 says: Jun 21, 2011 2:39 PM

What’s good about Eagles fans is they dont need Super Bowl rings to love their team. They show up and support them regardless. Giants had to give away a ton of tickets to their games, which is why the Eagles fans took over in NJ.
In the end, who is trying to make themselves feel better? Somehow, Eli Manning (who they boo) having a ring makes them feel better.

The giants don’t go nowhere when they have to go through philly to win anything. 06′ eagles knock them out of the wildcard rd., 08 eagles stop them on two 4th and inches in the 4th qt, at their house, in the 2nd rd. of the playoffs. 09′ sweep and beat down, 10′ miracle at the meadowlads 2. THe Philadelphia Eagles have OWNED THE NJ giants for the past 3 years and basically the entire decade. The NJ team is property of the PHILADELPHIA EAGLES.

Oooh ooooh I know this one! And so do the coaches in the Giants personell box, because Donovan McNabb called them up on the sideline phone to tell them “See you next year, jerks!”

Blowouts, tough losses, heartbreaking comebacks. So, currently, Eagles fans should be gloating, they’ve owned us for a few years. Only thing to do about it is beat them. Or win a 4th super bowl.

  56. jakek2 says: Jun 21, 2011 3:08 PM

It’s hysterical listening to Eagles’ fans’ logic on this topic. Here are some gems:

    1) packerdarien says: “But I’d also add that the Giants haven’t won a championship ( let alone a Super Bowl) if they have faced the Eagles in the playoffs.”

So Einstein…the fact that the Eagles were inferior the 3 times we went the distance is somehow an indictment on us?? Really guy?

    2) dallassux says: “And yes, we count NFL titles just like yankee fans count 27 titles. Even though about 18 of them were before the 60′s and there were 10 teams in the league. Can’t have it both ways….sorry.”

The Giants STILL have more pre-SB titles than Phi. So, count them all you want…we still got you.

    3) More genius from dallassux: “Coming from a guy who’s bragging about living in NJ. A state that has Camden, Newark, Jersey City, Trenton, Asbury Park…..wait I just threw up. A yes, we own the jersey shore just like we own the giants!”

So you Pennsyltuckians freely admit to frequenting a state that makes you puke?!

    4) njeff says: “Only by people who want to sculpt an argument to avoid the truth.
Realistically, a title in 1960 is just as meaningless as a title in 2006 to a current team due to the high turnover rate. The current Giants have never won a title and the current Eagles have not either”

All I have to say about this is…huh?

    5) pflynn says: “The Super Bowl reference again? Zzzzzzzzzzz. Gee Eagles fans haven’t heard that one before. Think of something new and stop living in the past…Somebody wake me up the Giants beat the Eagles again. Been what 3 years and a 28 point 4th quarter collapse in the final 8 minutes now?”

So…it’s not OK for us to discuss the past but its ok for you to discuss wins against us 3 years ago? Eagles fans definition of past – anything predating the last time the Giants beat the Eagles.

    6) dallassux – “So I guess the giants let the eagles win the last 6 times in a row including 2 playoff wins. Heres a story. You’re great team coughed up the biggest lead ever in 7 minutes!!!! You can keep the mountain.”

Telling me that I can “keep the mountain” is like a virgin teenager telling his non-virgin, studly best friend to “keep that hot cheerleader he’s bangin’”. You know not what you sayeth my friend.

Actually, they went to the Super Bowl in the 2000 season AFTER beating Philly for the division title. So, not only is your post grammatically incorrect, it is also factually incorrect. NY leads the head to head match-ups 80-70-2. The Giants dominated the 30s, winning 11 and losing only 3. Philly took the 40s, 10-9-1. Giants the 50s, 13-7, Giants the 60s, 12-6, Eagles the 70s, 15-4-1, Giants the 80s, 12-9, Giants the 90s, 11-9, Eagles the 00s, 13-10. Bottom line – except the 30s and the 70s, the decades are reasonably even. Still, only one team out of the two has won the Lombardi and NY has done it three times.

The 4 times the Giants went to the SB, they beat Phi 8 out of 9 times. In 2000, they swept them 3-0 including a playoff win. Now what?

  60. kevpft says: Jun 21, 2011 3:41 PM

The Eagles have had a ridiculous amount of talent over the years, which is what makes their lack of Super Bowl trophies so glaring. On paper, there’s no reason they shouldn’t be on par with the other teams in the NFC East.

That’s the sticking point that will never go away for the Eagles until they win a Super Bowl. They’ve been good enough to do it, they just haven’t been able to close. Rag on the Giants all you like, but part of winning a SB is the forever bragging rights. The Eagles know the value of that.

Instead, we’ve had talented Eagles teams being embarrassed over the last several years. Notably by Dallas, who were a major factor in bringing the Vick magic-carpet ride down to earth.

The Eagles, and Eagles fans, know there’s only one way out of this. There will be just as much competition in the division and conference this year, if not more. The AFC is not getting worse. The clock is ticking.

  61. movieman5 says: Jun 21, 2011 3:48 PM

I was talking about the last 10 years. not 11 years ago. and you forgot to count last season. which would make it 3 years straight of being owned by the PHILADELPHIA EAGLES. Please point out my grammatical errors so I can laugh at how petty you are for actually pointing out spelling errors. Really, you want to point out errors in typing words that you probably do yourself and understand anyway? Wow, just wow. You are weak sauce like your north jersey brethren would say. Oh and you forgot to put apostrophes after the numbered decades you nitwit.

As long as the Giants continue to pull down a SB win every 10 years or so and the Eagles continue to choke away talented teams, the Eagles can beat the Giants 50 times in a row as far as I’m concerned.

last i check the cowboys had 5 to the eagles……i wont even rub your face in it since this is my first post

  65. jakek2 says: Jun 21, 2011 3:57 PM

How funny will it be when the dreg of dregs…the LIONS…surpass the Eags and win a SB before them. Nobody thought the Aints would beat them to it.

  66. We'reFineThere says: Jun 21, 2011 3:59 PM

Hey Giants fans….It’s pretty cool that you were able to beat the Eagles during the Bush administration back when LeSean was in his 2nd year at Pitt. Wait, who’s clock is ticking? Our only 30 year olds are Vick, Asante, and Nnamde. Remember Eli is also 30 (with 30 turnovers last year).

  67. njjeff73 says: Jun 21, 2011 4:01 PM

So what we learned today is Giant fans like their teams that won titles and really don’t care to talk about any of their other teams.

While Philly fans support their teams regardless of what others think of those teams. Win or lose, the Philly fans show up every year.

50 years after their last title win, 4 fans out of 60,000 did not renew their Eagles season tickets. Meanwhile the Giants had to go thousands deep on their waiting list and still could not sell out their season.
Heck, I am an EAGLES season ticket holder and the GIANTS called me to buy their tickets!

  68. bhindenemylines says: Jun 21, 2011 4:08 PM

This is why eagle fans are the worst in the league.

No championships (SB or NFL) in 50+ years and when somebody brings that fact up they counter with “Yeah, but we beat you the last six times”.

And what did those six wins get you???

    Nothing.

Quick, all the eagles fans who visit this site that were alive the last time they won a Championship, raise your hand.

    (Sound of crickets chirping)

Until you win a SB and get invited to the adults’ table, any arguement you have will keep you relegated (sorry if you eagle fans don’t known the meaning) to the kids table.

  69. njjeff73 says: Jun 21, 2011 4:15 PM

bhindenemylines, what is your argument/point exactly?
Because the Giants won a title, you know football?

Because the Eagles haven’t won any titles since 1950, Philly fans stink (despite continuing to sellout every game for a team who hasn’t won?)

Giants won 3 titles. YAY! Go you. You played a big part in that! I mean, I saw you. You did great! Happy?

  70. lucky5934 says: Jun 21, 2011 4:19 PM

Of course the Eagles won the Superbowl. They had McNab at qb for all those years. Oh wait…he was the one puking on the field at end of the 4th qtr when they had a chance to win. Nevermind….

  71. spennyhatch says: Jun 21, 2011 4:21 PM

That hilarious, and im a Skins’ fan! Eagles are the redhead stepchild of the NFC east. Yeah… They got over in the McNabb Trade, but still the ONLY team in the East with out a SuperBowl. Oh… and they never will win one either. Ha ha ha

  72. njjeff73 says: Jun 21, 2011 4:34 PM

The funniest part of the whole Eagles/Giants thing is that the person who started the whole scenario is Umenyiora, and he himself doesn’t even like the Giants and wants out.

The person who tried to defend him when McCoy put him in his place is, Steve Smith, a guy who is so tough, he missed 8 games last year (i.e a “she”).

And the Giants fans are apparently only fans because the Giants won titles. If they hadn’t they’d be Jets fans, which most of them are jumping over anyway.

    Off to other topics.

  73. jakek2 says: Jun 21, 2011 5:05 PM

Lets play a game. Which happened most recently:

The Eagles last championship win OR:

    - invention of tape cassette
    - MLK’s “I have a dream speech”
    - Canada adopting Maple Leaf as their national flag
    - Berlin Wall constructed
    - Soviets put first man in space
    - the Studebaker goes extinct
    - invention of the touch tone phone
    - “Please Mr. Postman” becomes #1 hit
    - MLB expands to include the Angels

If you don’t know the answers, I’ll give you some hints.

In the land where dentists are still not welcome, a chubby, toothless mongrel wearing his favorite Chuck Bednarik replica jersey was driving his Studebaker listening to AM on his tape cassette-less radio on his way to the Eagles championship game. These were wonderful and simple times. There was no worry about blacks vs. whites, space race, walling in eastern europeans or whether the Angels would derail the great Yankee dynasty. Canadians were still searching for their identities and there was none of that crazy rock’n’roll devils music to worry about. Any way, when Mr. Mongrel finally got to the game, he realized that he left the tickets at home. Luckily, the filling station across the street where the horses got watered had a rotary phone for Mr. Mongrel to call his wife to bring the tickets. It was a banner day in Philly that day, I tells ya!

The Eagles BEAT Lombardi for the championship and Vince’s only playoff loss, ever.

    It’s the gap-toothed CURSE!

  75. djstat says: Jun 21, 2011 5:52 PM

Eli has more Super Bowl Rings then the Eagles organization. Who cares that in 2008 he lost twi ce at home. The whole team lost those games and what did Philly do with that win? NOTHING. They did not go to the Super Bowl. BTW the Giants did go to Super Bowl 35 and beat the Eagles in the playoffs to do so and beat them all three times that year…see we can pull out random history two. Bottom line is this, in the past decade who has more Super Bowl Rings? Who choked in the Super Bowl and also lost a lot of NFC Championship games?

Bottom line…the Eagles suck…there fans suck and all they are proud of is they booed Santa Claus in decades ago. Win a ring greenheads…until then SHUTUP.

BTW Osi has more Pro Bowls and more Super Bowl Rings than Lady “LeSean McCoy” Gaga

LT was always better than Reggie White and Bill Parcells was always better then Buddy Ryan and Tom Coughlin is more successful then that tub of Goo Jailbird producing Andy Reid.

  76. packeranddarien says: Jun 21, 2011 5:56 PM

Instead, we’ve had talented Eagles teams being embarrassed over the last several years. Notably by Dallas, who were a major factor in bringing the Vick magic-carpet ride down to earth.

How was that done, exactly? Due to the fact Mike just slapped your ‘Boys around on your home turf on national tv or the fact he didn’t even DRESS for the meaningless season finale? Which one gives you a stiffy, jackwagon?

Leave it to a moron Pokes sycophant to throw his babbling BS into the mix. Like death and taxes, count on it.

  77. packeranddarien says: Jun 21, 2011 6:11 PM

So Einstein…the fact that the Eagles were inferior the 3 times we went the distance is somehow an indictment on us?? Really guy?

No, Chuckles. The point was ( which was conveinently omitted from your babbling dissertation of a rebuttal) the team that is presently constituted now, ESPECIALLY with No. 10 at the helm, hasn’t had the best success vs Philadelphia, home or away.

This has been proven CONCLUSIVELY in the postseason. Matter of fact, Little Blue hasn’t won, let alone QUALIFIED in the postseason during this 3 year “hiatus”. Coincidence? Keep thinking that.

    Your QB knows it.

    Your team knows it.

And I KNOW your coach knows it.

But I guess present company never had their calendar change from 2007.

I’d rather deal with the present. I’m sure that doesn’t sit well with you, Corky.

My point is that all eagles fans (including you, I’m guessing by your post) is that your team hasn’t won ANYTHING is 50 years, but they/you talk like they’ve won 10 in the last 10 years.

Any time you (eagles fans) start running your mouths all anybody has to do is bring up SB wins. But instead of shutting up, you turn to something that is nonsensical.

Eagles fan: We rule, you suck.

Cowboys fan: We have 5 SB’s, how many do you have?

Eagles fan: Yeah, but its been 17 years since you won one.

Cowboys fan: But its been 50 since you won anything.

Eagles fan: But we owned you since Reid was coach.

Cowboys fan: You’re 1-4 against us the last two years.

Eagles fan: When’s the last time you won a playoff game?

Cowboys fan: Two years ago, against you. And you?

Eagles fan; Ummm…you guys suck, we rule.

    It’s always the same.

    That’s my point.

  79. o0omorriso0o says: Jun 21, 2011 6:53 PM

You idiots (including media) need to realize somthing. Its time we stop puytting so much stock into a superbowl. We measure players by rings when in actuality its a team accomplishment. And who cares about how many SBs a team won? Thats great for a fanbase to reflect on amongat eachother but to use it as a trash talking tool? C’mon!!! So the Giants won a SB like 3+ years ago, Tell me how that means anything today? Exactly… It doesn’t…

Thanks for showing all of us your immaturity steve smith and thanks for just fueling the Eagles rage. You remember what other team pissed the Eagles off right? The Redskins and what was the result? Too much speed and agility, you really want to piss them off Osi and Smith? Seems to me that they have your number the past 6 times…

Giants havnt won a SB within the past 3 years right? Eagles have won te past 3 years (6 games) right? So its simple…

EAGLES > GIANTS Currently. See how easy it is when you use “CURRENT” logic…lol

  80. o0omorriso0o says: Jun 21, 2011 7:06 PM

bhindenemylines: you (cowboy, Giant, redkins fans) still do not get it do you? If you won a SB last year then you would be able to talk but what you don’t get is you HAVE NOTHING to talk smack about. oooo you won a SB like 17 years ago…lol Is that supposed to mean something to Eagles fans? See you guys have a little problem with understanding the present don’t you?

SBs are for your own fanbase to look back and reflect on. watch the DVD you might of bought, etc… But once another team wins it and your no longer the current defending champs anymore its basicly done. There is too much turnover in the NFL. I mean Smith is talking trash to the Eagles (for example to DeSean Jackson) when the Giants never won a SB with DJack in the league…lol Since DJack the Eagles have only beat the Giants again and again and again and again and again and again…lol You see how stupid it is what Steve Smith did now?

The final results is the same last year (which is the only year that means anything currently (key word: currently). Neither team in the NFC East won the SB last year so its even. However the Eagles did win the NFC East.

EAGLES = Defending NFC East Champs right? Therefor EAGLES > Giants/Cowboys/Redkins currently until proven otherwise…

Am I going to fast for you guys? Anyone else having a problem thinking in the present? See anyone can twist the facts like the Cowboys only winning 1 playoff game in 17 years, or the Eagles beating the Giants the past 6 times. See how easy that is… So you guys want to use a popular fact of the Eagles not winning a “SB” championship. I find it funny how people think a SB is anything different then a NFL Championship (just with a different name). Because thats all it really is but whatever…

Fact is was Vick starting for the Eagles other then just last year? Was DeSean Jackson aprt of all them lost years? Hell even Jeffery Lurie (Eagles owner) has only been owner of the Eagles about 15 years. The whole team is completely changed. Heck we just went through another roster turnover just recently losing McNabb, Dawkins, Westbrook, etc… You think this no SuperBowl talk means anything when teams and players and owners and coaches are constantly changing. Only the team name stays the same you idiots…lol

There is no hiding the fact that the Eagles are currently the…

    DEFENDING NFC EAST CHAMPS

WHICH MEANS CURRENTLY THE EAGLES ARE BETTER THEN THE Giants, Cowboys, & Redskins. Deal with it…lol

    ————————–

Let’s see how many Eagles’ fans don’t renew when/if the team switches to PSLs. I got a call too. Without PSLs, my hope was to get tickets by the time I retired (in about 30 years, give or take a few years). When I got the call from the Giants, the only seats available had a minimum PSL of $10,000.

  82. jakek2 says: Jun 21, 2011 8:01 PM

    More brilliant Eagles logic:

A SB 4 years ago is ancient history but mere regular season games since then is the “present”.

We Giants’ fans see that you paint your misery in whatever way that makes it easier for you to cope. Even if we won the SB yesterday, you dopes would concoct some nonsense that the past is past…what have you done today.

True…you have won 6 or so regular season games in a row. In 10 years, that will be long forgotten. What won’t be forgotten is our magnificent triumph in the greatest title game in the history of all sports. “Deal with that. lol”!

  83. bramton1 says: Jun 21, 2011 8:30 PM

    —————
I see we’ve advanced to the “loser talk” part of the conversation. The ultimate goal of every football player should be to win a championship. Find a player who doesn’t care about that, and I’ll find at least two teammates who don’t respect him.

Similarly, the goal of every sports fan is to see their team win a championship. This is why we identify with a team, because we dream of “feeling part of” a championship. Even when our team sucks for so long, we hope out hope for a reversal, and look for signs indicating better times on the horizon. It’s when a fan finally gives up hope (or become so disgusted with the ownership and/or management) that they bail and change alliances. Otherwise we would just enjoy the sport and not have a favorite team.

    ———————————-

Yes, finally!!! A rational point from an eagles fan that is true and not ridiculous!!!

I can give you that. Yes, the Eagles won the NFC East last year.

And currently they are the best team in the NFC East, preseason. I agree with that.

I have no problem at all with this statement.

But when you start talking about history and how good the eagles have been over the last 50 years and they disregard all of the SB trophies all of the other teams in the division have won, that’s when it gets ridiculous.

Every player and coach in the NFL has the same goal as every fan does; they want their team to win a superbowl. When eagle fans start saying things like “I don’t care if we ever win a SB as long as we beat the Giants/Cowboys/Redskins everytime we play them”, their just lying to themselves.

I’m sure any fan would be just fine if their team went 10-6, losing every game in their division, and ended up winning the Superbowl. I’d take that every season.

How ’bout it eagle fans; you go 10-6 in 2011, losing all games you play against Dallas, NYG, and Wash., but you win the Superbowl?

Sounds pretty effing good, doesn’t it?

  85. macjacmccoy says: Jun 22, 2011 12:28 AM

Yup no Lombardi Trophy but the Eagles are the only team to ever beat Lombardi in a championship game.

Being the only team to ever beat the guy that the trophy was named after because he was unbeatable in title games is a pretty big feather in the Eagles cap.

  86. eaglestateofmind415 says: Jun 22, 2011 1:30 AM

  87. jeffro33 says: Jun 22, 2011 1:33 AM

Championships or no championships, the truth is this….

The Eagles are dynamic and have a ton of speed, but are weak on both lines….

The Giants have a strong D-Line, but are weak and SOFT just about everywhere else…

Talk is cheap. Especially from a guy who contributed as much to that 07 title as the waterboy.

Let’s settle it on the field.

  88. tigrrrr says: Jun 22, 2011 3:24 PM

steve smith dwelling in the past clearly forgetting about the past 2 years. if a team with a superbowl in 07 is so much better than the eagles, than howcome the giants arnt beating the eagles lately? and as it stands at this very second without my contributions. steve smith according to wikipedia dosnt exist on the new york giants current roster. that shows you love the giants alot more than they love you. hahahaha.

    4 time NFL Champs
    3 time Super Bowl Champs

Regular season records are like stats, they are for chumps, all that matters is championships. Only Eagle fans are silly enough to try & debate that.

  93. andyreidisfat says: Jun 25, 2011 11:34 PM

This is another example of the Players today not understanding there was a game before them, and in turn there will be one after them.

The Eagles have 3 nfl championships. the game wasn’t called the superbowl yet but it is still a championship.

At some point even the fans have realize this and stop with “..you haven’t won…” stuff.

but when a player does it, its kinda sad. Think of all the great players on the those Eagles teams and its not like they didn’t beat great teams as well Green bay when they were at their best in fact
