I believe the "scrub Packers" comment was directed towards all the backups on the team that were playing at that point in the season. They're obviously not bad players, but when you only get playing time because the starter is injured, then you're really not considered to be a good player or starter-caliber; hence the "scrub" name.

I'm a Packer fan, by the way. Go Pack go!

u do realize that our “rookie bum” Julio came from the same system/coach/school/etc as ur rookie Saint Ingram whos gonna dominate us right?…and the Scrub packers? u mean the Super Bowl Champs?? at least we were able to beat the SEAHAWKS!!! hahahahahaha
----------------------------------------------

Difference is, rookie wide receivers rarely make a positive impact. With his injury history, he'll likely miss several games this season as well.

Saints beat the Seahawks in the regular season. But this is about the Falcons, who were the #1 seed playing a home and laid an egg.

WORST NUMBER ONE SEED EVER!!!!

To the people who are placing the blame for the playoff loss to GB squarely on the defense - you clearly didn't watch the game. Yes, the defense got beat pretty badly (which was not the norm - they had a bad game against a really hot team). Equally as concerning was the inability of the offense to stay on the field - too many three and outs. The defense was on the field WAY too much. They got worn out. I don't think it's a bad strategy to increase the "explosiveness" of the offense, rather than improving the defense because of ONE really bad game (for which they weren't totally liable - see above).

Wow, the lockout sure brings out the tools. Lets review his exact comment.

"Green Bay’s got, what, four or five guys out there who can make plays? We’re going to be Green Bay South.”

He's saying that with Julio Jones the Falcons offense will be much more explosive and have 4 or 5 guys that can make plays, LIKE GREEN BAY.

A. It's a compliment to the Packers
B. It's a fact

Saying Michael Turner isn't a play maker is ignorant. Same can be said for himself, Matt Ryan, Tony Gonzalez and Jason Snelling. Factor in a healthy Jerious Norwood and Harry Douglas and it's a lot of talent. If you disagree, go do your homework before you reply.

The Falcons went 13-3 and in the past 3 seasons have not suffered a losing year. Huge steps for the Falcons who were once the 3rd world country of the NFL. If the kid is excited about adding talent like Julio Jones and 'Quizz' Rodgers and that offends you perhaps you need help with your anger issues.

I agree their defense needs a pass rusher in a bad way but saying their run defense sucks show massive ignorance.

People are so quick to down others. That's a sign of being disappointed with their own lives. Let the kid enjoy his success and be excited about his future. He's earned. Saying he pushes off and that's the only reason he 115 catches in 2010 is stupid. I don't recall Michael Irvin mentioning that in his Hall of Fame speech and he was the master.

Why is he comparing the Falcons who scored 414 pts in 2010 to the Packers who scored 388? He should be trying to prove that the Falcons are better than the 4 teams that finished with more points than the Falcons.

They are:
Patriots 518
Colts 445
Chargers 441
Eagles 439

Note that the Falcons are much closer to the Raiders (410 pts) than any of the teams ahead of them. Maybe he should focus on beating them and then worry about the big boys.

I think its foolish of any team this year to think that they're going to be able to rely on rookies. With no mini-camps and no OTAs before the preseason (assuming the lockout is fixed by mid-July), these guys are going to be way behind rookies of years past. Sure there have been player workouts, but players are not coaches so the young guys could be learning bad habits or running plays in ways that weren't intended. Teams relying on big free agent signings and teams with new coaches installing new systems could also have a tough time this year.

With that said, Atlanta should still have a pretty decent team in place from last year. Yeah, GB destroyed them at home, but even as a Packer fan, I think Atlanta is a better team than they showed that day. I suspect that wasn't the last time these teams meet in the playoffs.

I have to think Dimitroff either thinks he has the formula right this time (their team is willing to run the ball with toughness unlike the McDaniels Pats) or he hasn't learned from his prior team's 07 run: you can have a great QB (And Ryan isn't that yet) and score a ton of points but as long as you have an average defense you will peter out in the playoffs because when you run into a team with a great D (or one playing great down the stretch at least) it can take your QB out of the equation and your average defense can't make up for it.

Roddy's wrong.

Rookie wide receivers very rarely light it up their first year. 800-900 yards would be tremendous for a rookie WR -- which isn't exactly "Greatest Show on Turf" stuff for a #2 receiver.

By the time Jones finally turns into an elite receiver (assuming he does), Gonzalez will probably be retired. Plus Turner will have another year or two on his legs. He may have gotten to ride the pine for a few years, but the way he runs is going to wear him down.

Plus, Ryan has shown little ability to be a consistent downfield passer. He can make the throws, sure, but he's inconsistent. Not to mention, the Falcons' playcallers have shown little inclination to run that sort of offense. They're one of the most conservative offenses in the NFL, especially when you consider some of the talent they have.

I'm skeptical of the Jones pick. I have difficulty believing that a rookie #2 WR is going to take you from a 48-21 undressing at home to Super Bowl champ.

Wow there are some idiotic comments. To the guy who said the run defense was bad. 10th in the league is not bad and 5th in scoring defense. The problem is the lack of consistent pass rush and the nickel corner chris owens was horrible. Green bay can exploit that as well as anyone. The falcons did however beat the pack in the regular season. The playoff game got out of hand early with turnovers and nobody was beating the pack with the way Rodgers was playing. As for saints and bucs sweeping the falcons dream on you tool.
=====================================
If beating the then injury-riddled-and-still-figuring-out-how-to-play-with-who-they-had Packers by 3 on a last second field goal in the regular season makes you feel better, then fine. Frankly, I'd be more concerned with the 27 point beat down they gave you in your house in the playoffs.

=====================================
If beating the then injury-riddled-and-still-figuring-out-how-to-play-with-who-they-had Packers by 3 on a last second field goal in the regular season makes you feel better, then fine. Frankly, I’d be more concerned with the 27 point beat down they gave you in your house in the playoffs.

one more year of the Matty Ice is god bull sht would be a bit much. Flacco even went by him last year and is poised to do much better then him again. Roddy White is good but is not a burner, he needs his size to push and get open

the real issue is that the ATL defense SUCKS!!!

oh and they have NO run game

other then that sure compare them to a SanDiego or Giants team

I know I am in the vast minority, but I think Julio Jones was the best WR available in the draft this year, and the Falcons landed a game-breaking talent for a relatively cheap price.

Jones will put their offense over the top, and moreover, will greatly cushion Tony Gonzalez's eventual departure.

Roddy is right that they improved their offense and it is pretty good. I also believe the Green Bay South reference was a compliment.

However, they still won't match up that well to Green Bay as of right now.

Dom Caper's defense was just as instrumental as Aaron Rodger's offense.

Tramon Williams, Sam Shields, Charles Woodson, and Nick Collins are a pretty good secondary. One might say they are a top 5 unit.

In a shoot-out, many times all you need to do is stop the other team once. I'd bet that the Packer D-backfield would be more likely to do that.

Not to mention that the Packers get Jermichael Finley back who is going to be tough to stop (too big for a CB, too fast for linebacker or safety).

Granted, Atlanta has a better running attack.

Don't go writing checks that your defense can't cash, Roddy. I really don't think you're going to put up 35+ against the Packers anytime soon, and that's what it's gonna take.

You can have another cute 13-3 season. Just get ready to drop them pants and bend over come playoff time, once again! Matty Ice?? What a joke. Just call him "Mr. Regular Season"!

Anyway, best of luck to you, Roddy. Atlanta didn't do anything to bolster their defense in the draft, so you're going to need to put up some points if you want to win.

The Falcons really aren't that good. Matt "Poo Stain" Ryan can't throw a deep ball, and the only way Roddy White knows how to get open is to push the DB out of the way--he might be the best in the league at that though.

And we all know about that defense!! Yeah!!!
