Getty ImagesHBO’s Entourage will wrap up its eighth and final season this year, and when it does, a surprising choice for a special guest star will be there: Mike Ditka.
Ditka, the Hall of Fame tight end and former Bears and Saints head coach, said on The Waddle & Silvy Show on ESPN 1000 in Chicago that he didn’t know much about Entourage before he and Wisconsin athletic director Barry Alvarez were approached for cameo appearances in the series finale.
“This just came up spur of the moment, and actually you know, it was a good experience,” Ditka said, via ESPN Chicago. “I didn’t realize how big a deal it was, I’ll be honest with you. I’m kinda naïve about those things, and I understand it is a pretty big deal, and yes, I think it is very nice and Coach Alvarez is on it with me so both of us are there.”
Jeremy Piven, who plays Ari Gold on the show, tweeted a picture of himself and Ditka on the Entourage set, and Ditka implied that his role involved a profane shouting match with Ari.
On that front, it will be hard for Ditka to top Matt Damon’s Entourage cameo.

Most overrated show on television.
I hope it’s not on the same night David Tyree guest stars on ‘Glee’
Hopefully he kicks the crap out of Ari
Ditka’s entourage consists of two large chips. One on each shoulder.
trbowman doesn’t know good shows if it hit him in the head.
Damon is a professional actor & Ditka isn’t. Mike should be able to do better than, say, Mark Cuban did last season. I really enjoy all the actors who appear as themselves on the show as jerks, or, like Damon, weirdos.
Haha, I like how you wrote this as though it’s present tense.
If that show was actually still on the air, I would burn everything I see to the effing ground.
That’s still on?
I listened to that interview today on ESPN 1000 and Ditka gave away a fairly good spoiler about this season of Entourage. I can’t believe the shows producers are going to be very happy about that!
Piven’s only good role ever was Cheese and that was because it’s only one where he isn’t pretending to be cool.
I wonder if he’ll play the typical Chicago guy that’s a loud jerk that only ever talks about the 85 team that won it all or if all else fails maybe he’ll wear a suit and Ricky Williams can show up in a dress?
