Report: Wednesday talks were “very fruitful”

At a time when the ongoing labor situation is making many of us feel like vegetables, Sal Paolantonio of ESPN reports that Wednesday’s session between the league and the players was “very fruitful.”

Paolantonio also reports that it’s expected the talks will continue until a deal is reached.

Here’s hoping that’s a literal expectation. Two days per week of face-to-face talks simply won’t get a deal done in time, given NFL general counsel Jeff Pash’s explanation that the lockout won’t be lifted until all documents are drafted and all appropriate judicial blessings are obtained. In order to make that happen in time for the two teams that open camp on July 22 (Rams and Bears) to have a fair shake at signing free agents who can help from Day One, the process needs to start soon.

How soon? Frankly, it already needs to be happening.

On that note, we’ll defer further comment or speculation until today’s special non-live edition of PFT Live.
