Bills use members of military to model new uniforms

With current players locked out — and a certain high-profile former player locked up — the Buffalo Bills needed to find models for their new uniforms.  And so the team slapped their red, white, and blue jerseys and pants onto the men who fight for the Red, White, and Blue.

Members of the armed services modeled the new uniforms, complete with shoulder pads and padded game pants, at Ralph Wilson Stadium on Friday night.

The new uniforms are an updated version of the ensemble once the buffalo on the side of the helmet went from red and stationary to blue and running.

More pictures are available at the team’s official website, and the jerseys already are for sale.  (Note that running back C.J. Spiller has switched from No. 21 to No. 28, which was Spiller’s number at Clemson and which previously was Leodis McKelvin’s number.  Thanks to the reader who pointed that out.)

Once you get a look-see at them, let us know what you think.

Look a lot like Colts uniforms.

I’m not sure what was more of an atrocity. Sending soldiers to Iraq, or making them go to Ralph Wilson Stadium.

  3. dawkinseffect says: Jun 24, 2011 8:11 PM

So are the Bills that poor that they could only afford 1 number?

Using soldiers as their models was a nice idea. I take it they’re going back to the white helmets. Excellent! Those white helmets were gorgeous. Never liked the red ones. The Bills were a much-improved team last season. I’d love to see them regain their 90s glory and hear everyone just shut up about moving them away from their loyal fans.

It would have made more sense to have members of the Canadian Mounted Police model these.

  6. dempsey63 says: Jun 24, 2011 8:33 PM

As one of my friends used to ask years ago, “How can a ‘Rich’ Stadium have ‘Bills’?”

  7. mistahsingh says: Jun 24, 2011 8:35 PM

I thought I’d leave a comment for the sake of leaving a comment because the other three are just as meaningless.

I don’t like the jersey but the Helmet looks good. Much better than that red one that they never should have gone to.

I grew up in the 70’s and 80’s seeing the white helmets and never could get used to those red ones.

When can I get my Tarvaris Jackson Bills jersey?

  10. maddenboy says: Jun 24, 2011 8:53 PM

as long as its the Bills’ correct

I’ll be happy. The last few years’ uniforms were hideous. Shameful in fact.

    Awful uniforms

  12. cover2blitz0 says: Jun 24, 2011 9:09 PM

I like the look and props to them for getting the military involved

    GO BILLS!!

    Looks like the chargers uniforms.

  15. frostbelt says: Jun 24, 2011 9:19 PM

Gorgeous jerseys. I have to say top 5 in the NFL.

  16. eyefeeler says: Jun 24, 2011 9:19 PM

very AFC. Oilers meets Bills. Like the white helmet better than Red.

  17. pericles12 says: Jun 24, 2011 9:26 PM

FYI, Spiller and McKelvin actually switched numbers. It was just announced on twitter. No mistake on the jerseys.

Would like to see the uniforms with the helmets on, I think they are the gem of the new look.

  19. yankees2009 says: Jun 24, 2011 9:34 PM

Anything is better than the uni’s they’ve been sporting for the last decade…

  20. pigseye1859 says: Jun 24, 2011 9:38 PM

I think they are great. I am a Broncos fan, and I like the older school look much better.

  21. piratebeard says: Jun 24, 2011 9:41 PM

Gotta have the standing buffalo on the helmets though, but otherwise they look pretty cool.

  22. wideright91 says: Jun 24, 2011 9:41 PM

They can wear whatever color they want as long as they beat the Patsies.

  23. viceburgh says: Jun 24, 2011 9:52 PM

Whether you like the new ones or not, you have to agree they’re better than the previous atrocities

  24. backindasaddle says: Jun 24, 2011 10:15 PM

Honestly….the new uniforms seem a bit bland. I like the helmut, but the rest of it is too bland… Just a honest opinion.

Regardless, I like to see the Bills being proactive and marketing their franchise/brand.

  25. bluvayner says: Jun 24, 2011 10:16 PM

I don’t love it, but it’s certainly better than the last one.

The throwback uniform is much better.

  26. Packernet says: Jun 24, 2011 10:18 PM

Love them! Reminds me of the good old days of O.J. Simpson. Pretty close. Good move by the hapless Bills.

  27. cosanostra71 says: Jun 24, 2011 10:58 PM

I personally like these uniforms. I am a fan of the color schemes and layouts used in uniforms in all sports from the 60s-70s. I feel like in the 90s and 2000s, teams went to less bold colors, schemes and layouts in what I feel like amounted to very monotonous uniforms. I hope that other teams take the hint and do the same. As a 49ers fan I like the current ones, but I think that teams like the Seahawks (I can’t stand their uniforms, I just think they are god awful- sorry), Patriots, Eagles, Broncos, etc. start to adopt their “throwback” uniforms permanently.

ladies and gentlemen, meet the L.A. Bills

  29. powderedme says: Jun 24, 2011 11:14 PM

Don’t get me wrong, I have nothing but the utmost respect for our men and women in uniform… but does anyone else think it looks like the guys on the Bills’ site were suddenly woken from a deep sleep to pose for the picture?

  30. golonger says: Jun 24, 2011 11:58 PM

Ugh……..still terrible. Although they are better than those god-awful unis they have worn of late (with the ugly navy thrown in for absolutely no reason)

Just go with both the SB-Jim Kelly era unis and/or the OJ era unis……..the 2 best……….stop trying to reinvent the wheel and making things worse!

  31. golonger says: Jun 25, 2011 12:00 AM

    keep dreamin’ wideright91………..

  32. bigtull says: Jun 25, 2011 2:48 AM

Looks like the jerseys St. Jack Kemp wore, and he had 2 AFL titles with that jersey!

  33. anpsteel says: Jun 25, 2011 5:45 AM

Ummm… the Patriots uniform is already taken.

  34. dd393 says: Jun 25, 2011 7:42 AM

What uniforms are their cheerleaders wearing?

  35. eaglescouch says: Jun 25, 2011 9:36 AM

Smart move using soldiers. Surprising for the Bills.

  36. ramofsteel says: Jun 25, 2011 11:21 AM

I don’t really like white helmets, but I gotta admit they look good here. The jerseys, could’ve done better but a lot worse.

  37. eslaught says: Jun 25, 2011 11:32 AM

They actually wear buffalo hides. Those would be awesome jerseys. but to make it really awesome they would have to kill the buffalo to earn the right to wear it. nobody could beat the bills if they spent all off-season hunting and killing buffalo (with their bare hands).

  38. tv426 says: Jun 25, 2011 11:40 AM

One thing I’ve been wondering for many years – Buffalo is the city, but what is a “Bill”??

  39. 1phd says: Jun 25, 2011 11:44 AM

Don’t like the blue color, it should be darker like navy blue. Powder blue is definitely not flag blue and is too wimpy.

  40. txhc says: Jun 25, 2011 11:52 AM

This gets more ridiculous by the day. These men have WAY more important things to worry about than being runway models for some rich idiots that are fighting like cats and dogs and can’t come to an agreement over who gets what out of the billions of dollars they are making.

  41. tr975 says: Jun 25, 2011 12:28 PM

Will they also have red alternate jerseys?

  42. raysfan1 says: Jun 25, 2011 12:54 PM

…and everyone wearing #11 will confuse the heck out of the refs!

The team is named after Buffalo Bill Cody.

they had #11 because the jerseys and the helmets were introduced in 2011…!
