Vick lands in the second 10 of NFLN’s Top 100

More than 75 percent of you think Mike Vick should be the fifth quarterback on the player-generated, NFL Network Top 100 list.  But given his compelling story of redemption, we think he could have landed higher than that.

With the league announcing that Vick will be one of the 10 players unveiled on the next edition of the show, he likely won’t be in the top two or three quarterbacks.  Or even in the top four.

The other quarterbacks still to be revealed are Tom Brady, Drew Brees, Peyton Manning, and Aaron Rodgers.  There’s a good chance that each of them will be in the top 10 overall players.

Players 20 through 11 will be unveiled at 8:00 p.m. ET on NFL Network.  At 9:00 p.m. ET, Cowboys linebacker DeMarcus Ware and Ravens defensive tackle Haloti Ngata (both of whom presumably landed in the second 10 as well) will join host Lindsay Soto and analysts Willie McGinest and Jamie Dukes for the reactions show.

Meanwhile, let us know which of the quarterbacks you think will be the top quarterback on the list.

Vick doesn’t deserve to even be named in the same breath as these guys…he had one good year and that was last year…he will be the same ol’ Vick this year…mark my words…

  2. touchdownroddywhite says: Jun 24, 2011 6:21 PM

0 for Brees with 14 votes in. That’s funny though I’m sure it will change.

  3. brownsfn says: Jun 24, 2011 6:21 PM

Oh and why don’t you pay some of your bills this time around with that shiny new contract you are about to get and don’t deserve…

  5. dench81 says: Jun 24, 2011 6:28 PM

I heard long time ago aaron rodgers is ranked 11 outta 100 player. he should be much higher than vick and in the same breathe as brees. Go Pack Go

  6. Southpaw says: Jun 24, 2011 6:37 PM

Holy crap people. Pay attention. This is a top 100 list based on last season alone. The people that said “Vick only had one good year” – Yeah, and thats all that’s being judged!! Keep up! Learn to read!

  7. jakek2 says: Jun 24, 2011 6:39 PM

    Hes’ a regular season phenom.

  8. Bubby Brister says: Jun 24, 2011 6:39 PM

This is surprising. I don’t think he deserves to be in the Top 10 but I would have imagined a lot of players did.

It was also leaked that Aaron Rodgers is supposedly 11. So there’s that.

  9. SpartaChris says: Jun 24, 2011 6:40 PM

Rodgers is #11. We already know this from the preview they ran a couple weeks ago.

  10. mimitaroo says: Jun 24, 2011 6:40 PM

The NFL list is based on the top 100 of 2011 and NOW. Vick was better than both Brees and Peyton for the 2010/2011 season so should be ranked higher. If it was done on things past then he should be ranked lower. This list is useless.

  11. blkmanwtan says: Jun 24, 2011 6:41 PM

IMO Brady and Manning are over rated… One dude haven’t played like crap in the playoffs and the other dude cannot win a super bowl unless the opposing QB is Rex Grossman.

BROWNSFAN, first of all Vick has had more that one good year. Maybe you didnt know he made the Pro-Bowl when he was in ATL. And 2nd, Im sure your views about having one good year are completely different when you’re talking about Hillis, right?? And dont forget Vick was neck and neck with Brady for the MVP up until the last couple of weeks, so its not like Vick doesnt deserve to be mentioned among the top players in the NFL. By the way, you’re a browns fan so what can you contribute to this article? Your team is piling up on Philly’s cast-offs. Your GM, Sheldon Brown, Chris Gocong, Mike Bell. And Id be willing to bet that when Philly lets go of Nick Cole and Max Jean-Gilles, you guys will be right there signing them to a contract.

  15. bluvayner says: Jun 24, 2011 6:58 PM

    Way too high for Vick!

  16. demsaintsboyz says: Jun 24, 2011 6:59 PM

Vick doesn’t deserve to even be named in the same breath as these guys…he had one good year and that was last year…he will be the same ol’ Vick this year…mark my words…

Funnily enough this list was based on THAT ONE YEAR. Not what they have done in the past.

  18. dmstorm22 says: Jun 24, 2011 7:05 PM

Unless something changed, Aaron Rodgers is #11. In the Top 100 preview show NFL Network did before this whole countdown started, they showed Rodgers clip and it started with him being #11.

  19. goawayeverybody says: Jun 24, 2011 7:10 PM

These ARE the remaining 17. There is no doubt whatsoever.

“Meanwhile, let us know which of the quarterbacks you think will be the top quarterback on the list.”

In case you didn’t actually read that part (the directions)…it states to name WHO YOU BELIEVE WILL BE THE TOP QB AS RATED BY THE PLAYERS.

The directions were not to state WHO YOU BELIEVE SHOULD BE THE TOP QB IN YOUR OPINION.

**When you fill out your bracket in march madness do you choose WHO YOU WANT TO WIN…..OR WHO YOU THINK WILL WIN?
(For your sake I’m hoping the latter)

Vick was #2 in the MVP race , is a threat to run , cannon for an arm , great accuracy , and by far the most athletic QB in the league . I’m not saying he’s better than any of the 4 but he is EASILy among the elite ! Fellow NFL PLAYERS put him in the top 20 , ill take their word over any fans , everytime !

  28. stadanko says: Jun 24, 2011 7:40 PM

  33. scott8nj says: Jun 24, 2011 8:59 PM

I’m tired of seeing this scumbag praised. Yes, objectively he’s the 5th best QB. But to me he’s right up there with O.J. as a human being.

  34. dbellina says: Jun 24, 2011 9:37 PM

My vote for #1 goes to Brett Favre.

He’s still in the NFL, right?

  35. bigdicebuddha says: Jun 24, 2011 9:40 PM

For all of you stating this list is based on ONE YEAR, that year being last year… How do you explain McNabb and Tony Romo making the list, then?

  36. egls7 says: Jun 24, 2011 9:53 PM

@brownsfn and im sure your browns will remain the same ol’ browns next year and for years to come

  37. captainwisdom8888 says: Jun 24, 2011 10:04 PM

If our duty as fans was to focus on the character of the players off the field, that wouldn’t leave much thought for the game. Your love of sport should outweigh the hatred of 1 man.

  38. jh500 says: Jun 24, 2011 10:08 PM

Vick was an MVP candidate after playing half a season. I always knew Vick was a good QB. All he needed was some good receivers. He had no one in Atlanta. Crumpler and butter fingers Roddy White. He was playing by himself. He just needs better protection and he is set.

With that being said, Vick should be number 1 for carrying the Eagles on his back. Poor guy must have been tired. Let’s sacrifice a dog when Vick wins the Super Bowl next year.

  39. vikes4evr says: Jun 24, 2011 10:12 PM

Just more media BS to pacify the Dawg Killa’s jock sniffers

  41. cosanostra71 says: Jun 24, 2011 10:53 PM

Michael Vick is my favorite player in the NFL, not because of who he is off the field, but he does not deserve to be a top 20 player in the NFL. If you asked me, I would put the QB rankings (based off last season mostly (with some consideration to overall career)) at:

    1. Aaron Rodgers
    2. Peyton Manning
    3. Tom Brady
    4. Drew Brees
    5. Phillip Rivers
    6. Mike Vick

I don’t see him as a top 20 player really, even as much as I enjoy watching him. Top 25 maybe, top 30 probably, but top 20, no.

  42. dontouchmyjunk says: Jun 24, 2011 11:00 PM

This is supposed to be the top 100 of 2010!!!!! A single season. Last Thanksgiving, people had Vick being neck and neck with Brady for league MVP. After that, the amazing come back game against the Giants vaulted Vick into the lead for MVP in many eyes. Vick’s season fizzled after that, but until mid-December, he was in the hunt.

So for last season? Vick ought to be in the top 5. He had that kind of season in 2010. There weren’t any other players in 2010 that were even close to getting the MVP except for Brady, who actually won it. So, going by that, Vick ought to be #2 in the list for last season. Seriously. Peyton Manning should have been ranked around 50. He did not have a great season and neither did his team.

If this were a Top 100 list of active players over a career, then it would be an entirely different list. But it’s not. It’s a list of a single season. The season of 2010!

  43. buckeye044 says: Jun 25, 2011 12:21 AM

It’s a popularity contest, so who really cares.

  44. jazzytrav says: Jun 25, 2011 12:38 AM

Compelling story of redemption? Man, I wish I could do something absolutely terrible just so I can apologize for it, throw some money at a dog shelter and have everyone talk about how great I am for overcoming my struggles. Please…

  45. MVQB7 says: Jun 25, 2011 1:18 AM

I agree that Vick had a better 2010 than Brees or Manning. Rodgers deserves #1 if you include the post season; if not it should be Brady.

  46. packerbacker12 says: Jun 25, 2011 1:58 AM

I’m sorry to say but Vick is probably one of the most overrated, overhyped athletes in all of sports. Yeah I know he has a great comeback story blah blah blah. But that doesn’t mean he should be named one of the best quarterbacks in the league. He had one good season. Let’s actually wait and see if he can continue this instead of putting the cart before the horse.

So in my opinion, Vick is #6. He is no way better than Rivers, Rodgers, Brees, Manning or Brady. Not even close. Those 4 actually have proven themselves over the course of last couple seasons. Vick hasn’t.

  47. packerbacker12 says: Jun 25, 2011 2:01 AM

“The thing says best players as of right now, not based on last year.”

That furthers the explanation more of why Rodgers should be ranked ahead of Vick. Rodgers had a great regular season, helped lead his team to 4 playoff victories and won the Super Bowl as well as Super Bowl MVP. Vick just had a great regular season.

  48. pigeonpea says: Jun 25, 2011 7:57 AM

This list lost all credibility with me when it listed Devin Hester at 32 and Greg Jennings at 74. Really? One of the leagues elite recievers was ranked 42 spots before a return specialist who has become a stop gap solution for a team to cheap to pay for a real receiver. At this rate, I could see Vick ranked as the #1 QB overall, despite the fact he was one-and-done after completely choking in the playoffs.

I suspect the league has introduced this ‘list’ to generate interest and debate among fans who are getting tired of the labour dispute shenannigans. It really doesn’t mean squat. Anyone could throw together a list of their 100 favourite players and it would be just as valid.

  49. tigrrrr says: Jun 25, 2011 9:02 AM

Vick shouldn’t even be in the NFL. Hes a loser of a man, and laughs at all of you vick supporters! Dont sell out, just for a win here and there. (your trophy case is STILL empty)

  52. batfreight says: Jun 25, 2011 9:56 AM

If this list is truly based on last season alone, how did McNabb receive a single vote? …McNabb making the list throws that theory right out the window.

  53. eaglesnoles05 says: Jun 25, 2011 10:08 AM

This list is total, toal, TOTAL lockout filler. Haven’t watche done show, and won’t be. Who cares?
Every pick is a confusion between where a player is now, and where he’d be ranked if his whole career is being judged. They bounce back and forth all day.
Example: Why not just list the top 5 as the order of the 2011 MVP voting since we are just talking about 2011. I’ll tell you why, cuz no one has the balls to make a list with Vick being “better” than Peyton manning (or even brees or rodgers, frankly, and I’m an eagles fan). It’s preposterous to say many people are “better” at football than Pmann, but it’s also preposterous to say that only “x” (how ever many there turn out to be) players has a better season than Pmann last year too.
Vick was better than brees last year. And better than Pmann too, last year. Vick, in 11 games, was just totally unreal. But who cares about a ONE HUNDRED player list of who was best in 2011? Really? END THE LOCKOUT AND LETS GO. Training camp and free agncy INFINITELY more interesting than this list crap.

  54. dontouchmyjunk says: Jun 25, 2011 10:10 AM

Sadly, even the players who voted for this list, didn’t realize that the series presented by NFL Network is being billed as the top 100 Players of 2010. A SINGLE SEASON!

Last year, the best QB’s were Brady, Rivers, Rodgers, Vick, Roethlisberger — in that order. Brees wouldn’t even crack the top 10. And Donovan McNabb wouldn’t crack the top 20 QB’s, even though he made the list of top 100 players of 2010.

So, the whole thing is skewed and pointless. I hope the league and their TV network never does this again.

  55. eaglesnoles05 says: Jun 25, 2011 10:15 AM

What it really is is a waste of time response to fans who whined about there favorite young stars, who perhaps WILL deserve to be one a top 100 of all time list one day, not making the all-time top 100 list because guys like franco harris and lester hayes made it when devin hester didnt. And now this list has hester 40 points ahead of jennings, and the like. Again, who cares? Seriously, we are doing a 10 WEEK premiere show on who had the best season LAST YEAR only, and it’s retarded in it’s rankings even at that. They shoulda just kept the top 100 all-time list going 101-200 if they wanted to get guys on who didn’t make it. There’d be just as much to debate, and it wouldnt be near as insulting to fans who know things.

    I’d say.

    Devin Hester 2010 Stats:
    40 Receptions
    475 Yards
    4 TD

    Greg Jennings 2010 Stats:
    76 Receptions
    1265 Yards
    12 TD

It is pretty obvoius based on this comparison alone that the list is skewed. Hester isn’t even in the same league as Jennings, never mind being ranked 40 points ahead of him.

^ don’t forget that D’angelo freaking Hall is on the list instead of Tramon Williams.

or that Eric Berry, Adrian Wilson, Antrel Rollle are ranked ahead of Nick Collins.

Philip Rivers throws for 4,700 yards, carries his team, and is ranked behind Michael Vick.

  58. turtlehut says: Jun 26, 2011 2:22 PM

One of the few times I ever agreed with Rex Ryan is when he said Manning is a better quarterback than Brady because now Brady has the advantage of playing for a great coach while Manning has to play for Caldwell (who is incompetent and only has the job because he was a friend of Tony Dungy.)

“Nobody studies like [Manning]. I know [Tom] Brady thinks he does and all that stuff,” Ryan said. “I think there’s probably a little more help from [Bill] Belichick with Brady than there is with Peyton Manning.”
