There's no alliance amongst athletes when it comes to finances. The only people they're concerned for are themeselves and their families (rightfully so). But I can't help but think that 1 super bowl ring for each wouldn't be enough for players like Peyton Manning and Drew Brees to cripple their own teams. As much as I love watching these guys play ball when is enough enough?! Plus if I'm not mistaken Peyton has lost more big games then he's won. His play-off record 9-10. Drew's play-off record 6-6. Can someone please tell me, in what other walks of life does succeeding 1/2 of the time warrant receiving more money?!

eagleswin says:
Actually you do. You do realize that for the last 20 years that the owners were not violating anti-trust. You know that last year they weren’t violating anti-trust with the same rules they want to use this year?

If the players have a union there is no anti-trust. It’s not some grand stand for the greater good of mankind. The union can negotiate and it won’t harm a thing.

Right, but the players union decertified.

The players and fans would be best served if the owner's union had to follow the same rules as every other American business.

vahawker says: As a player, he deserve big money for the job he has done with the Saints, but seriously is ANY player WORTH 20 mil a year? Firemen, policemen, teachers, soldiers…real heroes are WORTH infinitely more than a silly football(baseball, hockey,…) player. The economics may dictate 20 mil/year but not their WORTH.

I really hate it when people say nonsense like this. The world isn't always a fair place- did you just figure that out?

People that are successful in the entertainment business, whether it be Drew Brees, Oprah Winfrey or Mick Jagger, make more than a civil servant. The money an entertainer makes comes from the revenues they generate, while a civil servant's salary comes from taxpayers.

The whole "teachers and firemen" thing is just another bad argument from jealous, resentful sports fans.

Before someone chimes in with the “negotiate, don’t litigate” song and dance, consider this: the owners ARE violating anti-trust laws. This not only affects the 1,700 or so NFL players, but every football fan in America. You can’t get the owners to simply stop doing this by negotiating

Yeah, when I think of all the Super Bowl rings Manning, Brady, and Brees have between them, all I can think about is how badly they've neutralized themselves (rolls eyes).

What about that, Drew, Peyton and tom? hello? anyone? why do I hear crickets? Dicks."

Brees And his agent knew Brady’s contract term when they neogitid Drew’s big deal and massive bonus. It’s a shame he never intended to honor that deal – and planned “leveraging” out of his current contract

The saints took all the risk when they signed Brees – had an injured shoulder. Irritating we’re even having this conversation

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------Confused about this. Are you saying that Drew Brees knew in 2006 what Brady's yet to be created contract terms would be? Or are you saying that Drew is going to sit out the remainder of his contract? I thought this was about Drew honoring his contract through the end and negotiating an extension. Could be wrong though.

The people calling Brees greedy are seriously ignorant. You obviously haven't followed his career and are just jumping on this "Brees caused the lockout" bandwagon, which is just as simple minded. Drew has restructured his deal a couple of times so the Saints had more money for other players. He's also paid for many players this offseason to attend workouts and has dedicated a countless amount of time and money to charities. But no, keep spitting out the same drivel that you read in the comments section of PFT. Don't do any research or critical thinking.

Anyone else think is extremely strong stance on part of the “union” will hurt his possible earnings?

I’m not saying he’s going to get blackballed. Someone will sign him for big money, but I wouldn’t be surprised if there might be some stalling from the Saints ownership to just hand him a monster deal… Just saying…

-------------------------------------------
I see your point. Be interesting to see how this shakes out. I doubt Saints' ownership will be hesitant to give him a big deal though but you never know...

Didn't Brady restructure his deal a couple times so that the Patriots could afford bigger name players? How is that greedy?
