Hue Jackson thinks Raiders were shortchanged on Top 100 list

As the folks at NFL Network prepare to unveil the next 10 members of the Top 100 list (No. 20 through No. 11; 8:00 p.m. ET), one of the league’s coaches isn’t happy with the manner in which his team has been represented.

Coach Hue Jackson recently told KNBR that three Raiders simply aren’t enough.

“I would have guessed the three they picked, and I think they left out about seven more,” Jackson said, via the San Francisco Chronicle.

Jackson thinks some of his younger players could earn spots on future lists, including defensive end Matt Shaughnessy, safety Tyvon Branch, and receiver Jacoby Ford.  Though it’s unclear whether Jackson thinks receiver Darrius Heyward-Bey is headed for great things, Jackson said that the team needs more out of him.

Of course, it’s hard to envision getting much less from Heyward-Bey, especially in relation to his entry into the league as the seventh overall pick in the draft.

he’s the perfect coach for the raiders…arrogant and delusional. Not suprised that he fits right in there.

  2. wtfchiefs says: Jun 26, 2011 6:37 PM

    Really? Seven more?

Hue thinks 10% of the top 100 players in the NFL are Raiders?

    …..

    You are a moron Hue.

  3. possiblecabbage says: Jun 26, 2011 6:38 PM

Isn’t complaining about the list in public kind of silly, because every team and a ton of players have a legitimate argument here?

  4. norcalraider510 says: Jun 26, 2011 6:47 PM

Matt Shaughnessy is going to be a stud very soon, Tyvon Branch had an off year last year but hes still young and good, Jacoby Ford got snubbed from the list(should have replaced josh cribbs), and DHB well yeah………

  5. footballfanatic3431 says: Jun 26, 2011 6:48 PM

7 more Raiders? Hahaha Hugh must be smoking a little too much these days.

You want to see a team that got screwed, look at the Pittsburgh Steelers. They go to the Super Bowl and they have just 4 players on the list and the first 3 players that were shown (LaMarr Woodley, Ben Rothlisberger, and James Harrison) were too low IMO.

There are very good arguments for Mike Wallace, Rashard Mendenhall, Lawrence Timmons and James Farrior to be on the list as well.

  6. ICDogg says: Jun 26, 2011 6:51 PM

3 Raiders, 32 teams, 100 total players on the list… seems like a fair allocation for a team that hasn’t exactly dominated.

  7. vbe2 says: Jun 26, 2011 7:09 PM

The list was picked by the players, it’s not like this was some “official” League ranking.

This list is about as meaningful as the Pro Bowl, which is worthless. It’s mostly popularity. How else does Donovan McNabb, after his 2010 season make the top 100 players in the entire 2010 NFL?

Maybe the top 100 of the past 10 years, but not of 2010. He’s just popular with the other players (minus Terrell Owens of course).

  8. AndreJohnson80 says: Jun 26, 2011 7:13 PM

Does he want his whole team on the list?

  9. randysavage4ever says: Jun 26, 2011 7:27 PM

Hue this is the Raiders. Get used to getting shortchanged, its you against the world.

The Raiders have been getting shortchanged on everything from calls to Hall of Fame recognition. Shortchanged on a few rings possibly.

Dont expect the Raiders to get props in Madden or on NFL lists.

Most people (not fans) in general hate or love the squad depending on their degrees of separation.

Either way it is impressive when any head coach & team of the Raiders wins because its twice as hard to win when your hated by everyone, including the league.

  10. rundmc81 says: Jun 26, 2011 7:42 PM

If you asked any head coach in the NFL the same question they would give the same answer.. It is a coaches responsibility to get their players to produce.. If they don’t, then the coaches fail.. The Nation is going to love Coach Jackson.. In a couple years the players he named will be top 100.. Minus DHB most likely

  11. jermely says: Jun 26, 2011 7:45 PM

You need to stop changing the meaning of his sentences. If you read the whole thing he says that guys like Shaughnessy, Branch, etc. are future top 100’s.. Not current.

But what head coach isn’t going to be overly positive about his players? Was he gonna say: “I only think Seymour deserved it”?

But then again, everytime fans of other teams can get a shot at the Raiders, they’re gonna go for it..

    >>>Though it’s unclear whether Jackson thinks receiver Darrius Heyward-Bey is headed for great things, Jackson said that the team needs more out of him.<<<<

Great things??? Only in the alternate universe "Coach" Davis lives in……The only thing the Raiders need more of with the lobster claw-hands of stone dhBUST. Is more time on the bench so he can't hurt the team. Hes a "Great playaaa" like JaMarcus was…..

Jacoby Ford is actually a football player who is fast instead of just one of Al's track guys trying to play football…..

  13. jdlaroo says: Jun 26, 2011 8:42 PM

Hue Jackson, Al Davis’ current yes man/puppet, became the Mr. Irrelevant of NFL coaches when he took this job. Next story please.

  14. zaggs says: Jun 26, 2011 9:01 PM

Funny, pretty sure I’ve heard of every member of the top 100. Never heard of the guys Jackson is talking about.

  15. mimitaroo says: Jun 26, 2011 9:07 PM

Uhhh they already had McFadden get in over Lesean McCoy which is BS considering McCoy lead in yards from scrimmage for the entire NFC.

  16. 1bigtex says: Jun 26, 2011 9:14 PM

    @ jermely

Uh, dude, Jackson said here should have been an additional seven Raider players selected. Go back and read the original quote. The idea that 10% of the top players in the league coming from a team that is 8 years removed from a winning record is just a bit laughable. Okay, it’s more than just a bit.

  17. sharkcatcher says: Jun 26, 2011 9:19 PM

Resign Nmandi …I got 5 on it!

  18. JSpicoli says: Jun 26, 2011 9:20 PM

Lists are boring and dumb. Hue is just motivating his players.

  19. qj1984 says: Jun 26, 2011 9:26 PM

    @jermely

Thats not true. I only take shots at Davis when I can.

Seriously, I thought the Raiders would be the Chiefs. The team that seemingly came out of nowhere and knocked SD off its perch in the West.

  20. jermely says: Jun 26, 2011 9:36 PM

    @ 1bigtex:

If you cant tell that after the first quote where he says seven more should have gone in, that he was implying not at the moment, but in the near future. Then I cant argue with you :)

Jacoby Ford had more drops than DHB did last year but let’s not let facts get in the way of sensationalism.

  22. joemcrugby says: Jun 26, 2011 10:06 PM

    Wow!!

Getting to .500 after 7 consecutive seasons of losing >=11 games vaults a franchise into a position where they have 10% of the top 100 players in a 32 team league.

I’m going to really enjoy Jackson in Oakland. The flamework as the Raider franchise rapidly descends from its current lofty peak is going to be very very entertaining!!!!

  23. raiderapologist says: Jun 26, 2011 10:16 PM

There is nothing going on and Jackson likes to talk. He wasn’t allowed to talk last year, and now that he can, he can’t.

  24. jeremyb91 says: Jun 26, 2011 10:38 PM

What would you expect him to say if asked the question if more players deserved to be on the top 100 now or on the top 100 in the future. If he said 3, then he’s cutting down his players potential. If he says 10 then he lets his players know he believes him.

Ask any other coach the same question and they’ll say they deserve more players on that list.

  25. raiderapologist says: Jun 26, 2011 10:45 PM

    jgrange says: Jun 26, 2011 9:53 PM

Ford is shorter and poorer than Hayward-Bey, but is a much better player. Ford did a lot more with his time last year than Hayward-Bey has in two years.

  26. 1bigtex says: Jun 26, 2011 10:45 PM

    @ jermely

“Question: The NFL Network is passing the time doing a top 100 players in the game today and three Raiders made it. Would you have guessed the three they picked?
Answer: I would have guessed the three they picked and I think they left out about seven more.”

Nowhere in that quote does he mention the future. Now, I’m pretty sure that Hue is blowing (or ingesting) a considerable amount of smoke. However, when I see or hear BS, I have a habit of calling it BS.

Richard Seymour, at least, should have been placed much higher.

In two year this guy won’t have a job.

  29. hendeeze says: Jun 27, 2011 1:18 AM

You silly silly delusional man, Have you been taking Al’s Meds? This is a list for the top 100 players not top 100 “up and comers” 3 players on the top 100 is already 2 more then the Raiders deserve.

I am glad he has a mouth, You want to be Rex Ryan west, but unfortunately for you, you coach the Raiders. Thus this next season (if we have one) will be a spectacle of a man who spouts his mouth, but cant back it up. (You dont have a foot fetish do you Hue?)

  30. themitchdraft says: Jun 27, 2011 8:21 AM

I swear ten years from now Al Davis will be mumbling from his grave how bright a future Darrius Heyward-Bey has.

  31. raiderinpa says: Jun 27, 2011 9:28 AM

Gotta love all the haters… Keep on hating my friends… Good way to hide your true feelings that you know the Silver & Black is on the rise… and is coming to kick your team’s A$$ this year and for many more to come!!!

Coach Cable helped to right the ship, Coach Jackson is set to sail it right past all of y’all…

Oakland = AFCW Divisional Champions and will control their own destiny in the playoffs!!
