It would be a surprise if Terrell Owens wasn’t at least considering retirement following news that he tore his ACL this offseason.
That’s exactly what Owens is doing, according to Mike Freeman of CBSSports.com, who reports that T.O. has told “several people” he’s thinking about hanging them up.
Freeman expects Owens to take a different stance publicly, saying that no decision has been made. That’s the tact Owens’ agent Drew Rosenhaus took Tuesday morning on the Joe Rose Show on WQAM, saying it was “premature” to talk about T.O. being done.
“At some point I’m going to have a statement on [Owens],” Rosenhaus said via Omar Kelly of the South Florida Sun-Sentinel.
Even though Owens has talked about retirement, Freeman expects him to try to make a comeback. So do we.
T.O. is one of the most physically dominant wide receivers of all time. He’s no longer in his prime, but showed last year he still has the tools to contribute at a high level. He’s been rather durable as a pro and recovered amazingly quickly to play in the Super Bowl with the Eagles.
Does that mean a team will want to sign Owens in November or December for a playoff push if he’s ready? Not necessarily, but Owens loves staying in the headlines and he can’t do that just by calling it quits.
