Hopefully we won’t get to test the theory advanced from Ray Lewis that crime will increase if the lockout continues into the regular season.
We have learned, however, that NFL players didn’t embark on their own crime spree just because of the lockout. Alex Marvez of FoxSports.com notes that 16 players have been arrested since the lockout started. That’s one less player than was arrested during the same period a year ago.
It’s worth remembering that high profile cases like Aqib Talib and Kenny Britt are the exception in the NFL, not the rule. Marvez points out that the rate of arrest in the NFL is actually lower than the general populace for the young male demographic.
