Renovated Superdome is “brand new building inside the old shell”

The Friday morning one-liners made mention of the renovated Superdome. But as we wait for the lockout to end, our definition of post-worthy has been expanded a bit. So allow us to elaborate. At least a little.

In comments to the Associated Press, an executive from the company that manages the Superdome said that the improved Superdome is “like a brand new building inside the old shell.”

The six-year project has been completed, nearly six years after Hurricane Katrina ravaged the region and turned the Superdome into a house of horrors in the aftermath of the storm. “You walk around now and you don’t see too many vestiges of the past,” Doug Thornton of SMG said. “Many of the bad memories of Katrina have been suppressed.”

In all, $336 million was devoted to the project, which by all appearances has secured the long-term relationship between the Saints and New Orleans.

The Saints will christen the renovated venue on August 12. Hopefully.
