Dallas may be deep-pocketed but they have almost zero cap-room, especially after the huge deal Doug Free is about to get.

———————————————————–

What is this “cap” that you speak of? There is no salary cap. There was no salary cap last year and nobody knows if there will be one this year or how high it will be if there is one.
__________________________
If you think there won't be a new salary cap in the next CBA you're deluding yourself. It helps keep things competitive in the league, and prevents reckless owners from messing up the revenue share with the players. As for what the salary cap will look like, while I don't know the exact numbers, I can tell you what the equation will look like. Players' share of revenue (most likely 48%) - all non-salary payments players and retired players receive will give you the cash value of the players' share of league revenue. You then divide that by the number of teams (32) to give you each team's salary cap. As for the Cowboys, pretty much everyone who covers the league figures they'll at least be up against the cap, if not already over it. Oh, and they still have FAs to resign and rookies to get under contract. Thinking the Cowboys will be able to participate in a bidding war for Nnamdi is almost as bad as thinking that they'll have the available cap space to get in a bidding war with the Colts for Peyton. Face it, the Cowboys shot the moon locking up a number of their players already and trying to make a run at a SB last season (oops). In doing so, they knowingly put themselves in a bind whenever the cap was reinstated. Jones made a calculated risk and it backfired. He'll now be in the unusual circumstance of having to fill holes in his roster on the cheap.

yeah i would rather have the cowboys sign free than asomugha..look if rex ryan improves the pass rush then newman and jenkins will look great because which ever qb they are playin will be hurryin his throws and making bad passes for them to pick or deflect.. thats what hurt the cowboys the most was the lack of a pass rush of any kind..and also improving on safety would help a little as well..besides i would rather have the cowboys keep newman have him help train up mccann because he looked pretty good last year on special teams and playin db..so he could be a great replacement for newman if he is brought up right..also why pay a crap ton of money for a player who in the next 2 to 3 years is goin to start hitting the decline that every player hits when he turns 30.. cause if he signs a long term contract (which he will) for say 6 years 90 million..by year 2 or 3 into his deal people will be saying the same thing..cowboys overspent on him..he is not the player he once was..just like they are saying about newman..so cowboys stay away from him..spend money and time on young drafted or undrafted players and coach them up..

He will do his best to stay in OAK, unless Baltimore or Philly really open up the bank on him. He said he wants to retire a raider, he is a cali local and has a huge ring of charity work he conducts in OAK and LA. If OAK gives him a good deal with lots of incentives, he stays. The longer the lockout the more this plays to OAK. HE has had two monster contracts and already been the highest defensive player in the league, till albert, oh god. He will either stay loyal to OAK and hope they really are making a turn upward or he will go to a more secure favorite like baltimore or philly and end up like charles woodson in 2-3 years, becoming a hybrid DB and winning a superbowl.

Why is everyone so certain that he is leaving Oakland?? Al knows how to make things work financially..

Gregg, it doesn't matter how deep Jerry Jones' pockets might be, once the new CBA is signed, there will be a salary cap again, and the Cowboys have one of the highest salaried rosters in the league. In fact, it might be too high. I've read some articles that say the Cowboys may already be above the next salary cap, and that's before resigning players like Free and signing their own rookies. Either way, there's no way that releasing Terrance Newman frees up enough money to sign Nnamdi. He's not going to Dallas, and the only reason Mosley asked the question is so that he can try to generate some buzz for the Cowboys despite the horrible way their secondary played last year. It's all about the clicks. Then again, given the fact that you're almost certainly aware of everything that I've written, so is this story.
